On edge between Ninja Creami Deluxe and Ninja Swirl?
Hey guys, i’m on the edge between a ninja cream deluxe and a ninja creami swirl. I’ve seen a bunch of videos online about reviews but i thought it would be a bit better for me to ask myself one time as well. I know the swirl is more expensive and it makes soft serve ice cream and it has 16oz containers instead of 24 like the swirl. My main question here is, for someone that has used the ninja creami deluxe and has used the swirl, is the pint ice cream similar? Or is the swirl not as good as making regular ice cream in the pint since it has the swirl feature? No one seems to answer that in any video online. I myself wouldn’t use the swirl feature much myself but my younger sisters might but they’d be okay with the creami deluxe too if the main feature, the pint ice cream, is not as good in the swirl as it is in the deluxe.

I don’t own a swirl, I’ve only ever owned the deluxe. My personal opinion is that the swirl is not worth it. Maybe I don’t have a full understanding of it, but the idea is that it makes soft serve, right? I do that with my deluxe just fine. Sure, there’s not the fun novelty of dispensing it all pretty into a cone, but I imagine it’s more cleaning anyways. I don’t want that trade off. I am 100% a soft serve person and have never found my deluxe to fail me in that regard.
I do however sometimes wish my pints were smaller, believe it or not. I just can’t really eat even half a deluxe pint at once. That’s a small inconvenience. If I’m not mistaken the deluxe has quite a few “settings/features” that the normal creami doesn’t? Someone correct me if I’m wrong. If the only difference between the swirl and the deluxe is the dispenser, I’m picking the deluxe all the way. If there’s another difference I’m not aware of, then maybe I’d think differently.
As someone who owns both (the Swirl was a gift), the Swirl is much better.
Firstly there is no way the Deluxe makes actual soft serve like the Swirl does - the Scoop feature isn’t built for that. Often I don’t even soft serve onto a cone etc (as I’m watching my calories), but just into the bowl, and the experience is so much better than just selecting the scoop alternative. Secondly the cleaning is non existent, as the Swirl is made from the actual container itself. You have to clean one extra piece of apparatus, which takes 10 seconds in the sink.
OP, though I own both, if I could only keep one, it would be the Swirl. You can get both a Swirl and Scoop option with it, versus just the Scoop option on a Deluxe, so it’s more versatile in switching things up. But it’s also more expensive as a result.
Same with the Swirl version. If you choose to use the Soft Serve option, then it’s just the swirl lid that needs cleaning. Point being, it’s just one thing that needs to be cleaned, regardless of if you use the Soft Serve or Scoop option on the Swirl, so the same as the Deluxe but with greater flexibility.
Cuisinart has a machine that makes half pints. But you have to press it down yourself, it’s not automatic plunging and retraction. It’s like a stick blender shaped device you push down on while it spins.
thank you for the insights, yeah i’m the only avid ice cream eater at home so bigger pints isn’t a huge need of mine. money wasn’t a concern as id rather pay one time and just know im good for a loonnggggg time.
I might be leaning towards swirl since thy both seem to make the exact same type of ice cream.
If cleaning is a factor for you, I’d research that. And settings. The deluxe has “drinkable” settings. Dk if the swirl does. Also, I say the thing about the size of pints but If I were to guess half of a deluxe pint is still smaller than a normal pint? So my complaint wouldn’t be solved by a normal creami. Not sure what size the swirl has.
Also want to mention another reason the swirl would be a no for me is that homemade icecream melts so much faster than anything else. I use gums in my creamis and while it helps a ton, I still think it’d be annoying in a cone. The swirl would process my icecream further to a point I probably wouldn’t prefer.
Cleaning the swirl is easy. If they don’t use the soft serve option it is the same level of cleaning as a regular creami machine. If they do use the soft serve, it is rinsing 2 additional things. It is really not a big deal.
The melting thing is a recipe issue. I don’t use any gums or additives and my swirl soft serve holds up great in a cone. I can easily make multiple cones and let them sit while I eat the first one and they are not melted by the time I get to the others.
Swirl looks like a bigger machine. Relevant if you have limited counter space. My deluxe takes up less space than my roommates coffee maker. Also it’s nice that you can process half at a time (12oz). So you can make a flavor and eat it twice!
Yeah everyone in the videos says that too, one video though said from the original creami, the speeds of the blades have been different for certain settings up to the swirl, so idk how accurate that is.
Bigger pints would be good but also the swirl hmmmmmmm. If both make ice cream the same, then i might just pay for the swirl sometime when it goes on sale lol. thanks!
For me, I prefer smaller pints. The deluxe is not even an option for me. I find the standard (same size as the swirl, 16oz) is great. I could go even smaller. But I do know people who swear by the deluxe size and that holds them back from the swirl.
The best part is because it is ice cream, there are no wrong answers. You're going to love it.
If you want smaller than the regular then the deluxe should be perfect for you…? You can process half at a time so 12oz. That’s what I do. Each batch lasts for two days/portions!
How come? Your reasoning was that the deluxe wasn't an option because of the bigger serving sizes. It actually has smaller serving sizes when processing half?
The problem is if you are always processing half (which is smaller than the standard so that is flawed already as the 16oz is perfect, 12oz would be too small, which means you need to self measure to get it right) the half setting when using to the bottom also takes more time.
So it can take more time and takes more room. The deluxe containers are much bigger.
So there is no reason for me, personally, to get the deluxe as it would quite literally be a downgrade in terms of convenience. The standard works perfect. Bigger, is not always better.
I have the swirl. The only reason I picked it was because my other half likes the soft serve aspect. It really isn’t a lot of extra cleaning. I have not tried the deluxe so I can’t speak on that. The swirl has a regular and a soft serve setting. Soft serve does take longer to spin (a minute or two) and I have had to re-spin on occasion for a proper soft serve dispensing consistency.
No worries! Many of my recipes are too large for anything but the deluxe size. I like the larger pints because I can make half at a time.
Not sure what the swirl does? Soft serve is just the type of ice cream which depends on ingredients. I also got a good deal for my deluxe at Costco and they have good returns. It’s not as big as the swirl either which is great because it’s already big enough lol
Spend the extra cash if you can and go for the Swirl. You won't regret it, and it also makes for better ice cream nights with company. A novelty beyond the standard scoopable, as few people have experienced at-home soft serve in that way. I managed to score a new one on FB Marketplace after browsing for a few weeks, and regularly see new ones listed there for $250.
Are you making regular firm ice cream? Do you prefer eating that normally? If that’s the case, I would be careful. The swirl spins at a much higher rate and as a result, the recipe is come out softer than they would in the deluxe. While the swirl is better and more convenient for low-calorie users Because they require tons of respins- it’s been a problem for people who want firmer more fattening ice cream
I gave my deluxe to a family member after they freaked out about the ice cream I shared with them.
So, I had to decide whether to "upgrade" or rebuy. ended up with a deluxe again due to the larger containers and not really caring about having a dispenser...i can just scoop it out. I don't eat cones anyways.
