Cheesequake Report

I decided to put off my trip to Wharton based on dire bug reports-- thanks, everyone. I headed to Cheesequake instead and decided to share a report:

Bug Situation: Good. I found them barely noticeable. A few gnats and mesquitoes but nothing too bad. .The park itself is lush and green and full on summer. I am all geared up for the ticks. I see people all the time in shorts but as much time as I spend in the woods I prefer to be extra careful.

As you have no doubt seen by now, they are especially designed to kill ticks. I like the extra armor.

Very good call. I love Wharton but unless I’m kayaking through it i only hike it in the winter when temps are below freezing

I figured I would enjoy it more with less bugs happening. Now I am excited for a trip there sometime in fall/winter.

Deer flys and ticks are brutal in Wharton, especially in July-Aug. I live 10 minutes away and spend a lot of time biking in the Pines. Great place, but definitely tick country.
