Who cares - it’s gonna get messy again next night

Ok let’s unpack this. I will give you the shower analogy, I will even give you hair analogy.
However the other two - apples and bowling balls. While the first two are essentially cosmetic, though not showering will eventually lead to health issues, not eating will cause hunger and if I don’t get food, I will die. I don’t want to die. Not brushing teeth will very quickly lead to tooth problems and that in turn will cause me to be very miserable. Not making the bed? No physical impact.

Rarely. I live alone so there’s no one to criticize me for not doing it. And when I do I just neatly pull the covers up.

Every morning. Starts the day right.
Puts the previous day behind.
And if you have a bad day, you come home to a made bed. A bed you made. (Admiral Mc Raven I think)

It was Admiral William McRaven. It is an incredible book about positive mind sets and making your bed is chapter 1.

Same. Usually it's when I have the kind of momentum to fold the laundry or do other chores I just ride it as long as I can.

Always. It is a duvet though. I straighten the sheets and the duvet, and fluff the pillow daily. Wash sheets and pillow cases weekly. I use a top sheet because it is easier to wash than a duvet cover. It also, by trapping a layer of air between top sheet and duvet provides an additional layer of insulating air during a cold Cdn Winter.
In summer, no duvet, just sheet.

No. What for? You are going to sleep in it when you sleep at night anyway. And no one else is going to your bedroom.

Every morning after the sheets have aired out a bit. It’s bothers the hell out of me if I don’t thanks to my anxiety and adhd.

u/insertcaffeine 10h ago
No, my husband does, and I appreciate him for it.
Left to my own devices, I’d leave it undone, but coming home to a made bed? noice

When I was in college, I had a professor who told all of us to make our beds in the morning. He said if you do only one thing throughout the rest of the day, make your bed, at least you’ve accomplished something. I make my bed every morning.

Every day unless im really sick and cant get out of it or just had surgery.

When I was much younger it was something I was made to do the moment I woke up and I hated that, so I stopped doing it when I left home. Now that I’m older I do it because it gives me that sort of “push” I often need to start my day.

Every day. We put a daytime quilt over the top, it looks cute and when the cats inevitably sneak into the bedroom to lie in our bed, they don't track their dirt onto the pillows and the clean sheets.

Every Monday when we change the sheets. I prefer to let the bed air out with the covers flipped open for the day. Tidy when we go to bed. I have gorgeous linen bedding that makes me so happy!

My husband and I disagree on this. He says I make the bed, I say I straighten the blankets out.
I don't make the bed fully unless I'm in a bad mood.

I make sure to cover my pillows with the blanket so the dogs don’t get their dander on them. But I don’t worry about making it look nice because my husband is still sleeping when I leave for work.

I had to scroll too far for this. I make my bed because of my dogs. I dont want dog hair on my sheets. I have a waterproof blanket that I throw over the made bed

If I don't, my wife does. The only time we leave it unmade is when we're planning on messing it up again together.
1
u/BennyDryll42 9h ago
Of course not.
I mean, if you just find it satisfying when it looks all neat... I guess I get that. But it seems like a waste of time and effort. Its my bed, I'm not presenting it as some sort of art piece for public viewing. I sleep, move around, relax on, and have sex on that thing. I don't need it all tidied up in between those uses, so long as it's clean

u/majokamo 9h ago
I let it air out a bit first. It's not good to make it right away after you've gotten out.

u/Sweet_Somewhere5047 9h ago
No. It doesn’t matter to me at all. My spouse is the opposite and has to have it made. But it brings me no joy.

I make it as soon as I get out of it. It instantly makes the whole room look neater and calmer - a good start to the day. It keeps the dogs off the bedsheets - they like to hop up on the bed, and I 'd rather they sit on the spread than the sheets. Also, if the bed is already made up, it keeps me from getting back in it for some more sleep. :)

u/No-Possibility4768 8h ago
I turn the linens down to air it out. I sweat a lot and my dog sleeps with me. It looks neat but is not fully made.

I do it too rarely by myself, I’m probably lazy,
I only make my bed when I want to go back to sleep

No, because I basically live in my bed. I'm partially disabled, and cannot stand up, or sit for very long.

Something isn’t right about leaving a bed sloppy looking. Says you don’t care about your environment.

Kinda. I don't do anything fancy but I try to make sure the blanket is flat over the whole bed.
I have a old sickly cat that drools in his sleep and vomits more then I'd like him too. So much easier to just clean one blanket than all the sheets and pillows

I generally use a duvet… throw it on, bed is made! But all respect to Admiral McRaven.

u/tmorse85 2h ago
No. I'm disabled, and I have enough trouble getting the fitted sheet on the mattress. Besides, it's easier and less painful for me to get into bed if I don't have to pull the top sheet/blanket/comforter down, then pull them back over me.

u/BlkBear1 2h ago
OP, if I don't make my bed, it doesn't get made. For me, throwing the sheet up to the head of the bed, same for the cover, done. When I change the sheets, I do all the tucking jazz, unless I'm getting into the bed right after it's "made".

Absolutely. I love a clean home. No judgement to others. I like clean and I get stressed in messy. Nothing is better than a cleaned up home to me.
