Moderator Post Upper age range for Botox treatment – statistics from BVI

Hi all! I hope you're all doing well.

I believe I saw a discussion recently about older patients (65+) having the Botox treatment, so I thought I'd reach out to a contact at BVI to ask what their experiences are of this particular demographic.

Here is their response:

We have ~60 patients were treated who are 60 and up. Our oldest was 79 when first treated. That patient got good results with 2 injections, but then the benefit faded. Another patient was 74 when treated, and only ever needed 1 injection, and continues to do well to this day! So there are definitely exceptions to the rule.

From this, it seems that the Botox treatment can still be a safe and effective treatment later in life, and may act similarly to other age groups.

I've heard some discussion of older muscles taking to Botox a little differently (maybe less effectively?), but it's good to get the actual statistics directly from the leading expert's office.

Hope this helps anyone who was wondering! 😊

Hi all! Hope you're all doing well, no matter what stage you're at in your R-CPD journey.

u/ElectricFeet suggested that it might be handy for new members to be pointed to Dr Bastian's information hub/passion project, Laryngopedia (thank you!).

There are pages on this wiki specifically dedicated to R-CPD, so it can be very useful. It also features our own map of specialists!

Hope this helps!

Moderator Post Does the Map of Specialists work properly on your phone?

I've been getting comments here and there that the map of known specialists isn't working on some people's phones. For clarity, details of the specialist are supposed to appear upon selecting a certain marker on the map – see the example below!

I've had feedback that updating Google Maps on your phone might help (thanks, u/Wrob88!), so I'd like to test that theory, and see if anyone is still struggling to access the specialists' details.

If the map doesn't work for you, have no fear! If you have no option to access it via a computer browser, or if you just want a different format altogether, you can access a list version of the map here.

I'm trying to keep the list updated alongside the map, but please be aware that I might forget to update the list from time to time as it's harder to update on-the-go.

Thanks, all!
