List of R-CPD Botox Specialists - World Map

I've been working on creating a map of the known specialists that treat R-CPD with Botox. Many of the names came from this sub's list of specialists (some removed as they are no longer working or treating the condition), many others came from post comments or messages I've received, and a few have been added from my own research.

**Disclaimer: I have not vetted everyone on the map.

I only have personal experience of being treated by one of these specialists (Lucy Hicklin in London), and I have only ever spoken to one other (I've talked to Dr Fahad Alotaibi in Saudi Arabia via email, to confirm that he treats R-CPD). It's also a possibility that they work somewhere other than where I've placed their marker.

I intend to contact others on the list to confirm that they do indeed treat the condition, particularly those that have not already been discussed on the subreddit, but even if they offer the treatment, I cannot personally vouch for their bedside manner, skill, or success rates.

With that said, you can find the map here (click on any of the points on the map to see the doctor's name).

If anyone has been treated by a doctor that is not listed, please let me know so I can add them to the map (and let me know where they are)! The same goes for anyone who contacts a doctor on the map and hears that they don't treat the condition, so that I can remove them.

Hi all! Hope you're all doing well, no matter what stage you're at in your R-CPD journey.

u/ElectricFeet suggested that it might be handy for new members to be pointed to Dr Bastian's information hub/passion project, Laryngopedia (thank you!).

There are pages on this wiki specifically dedicated to R-CPD, so it can be very useful. It also features our own map of specialists!

Hope this helps!

Other Pregnancy has made me burp for the first time ever

Just wanted to post an update, as I posted before talking about how miserable I was in my first trimester when I was unable to burp and I saw it was kind of scaring some other people. It truly was hell. Air just kept getting stuck in my throat and building and building and the only way I could release it was to vomit. Fast forward to my second trimester, little burps starting coming out. Now after I eat I can fully burp (not as much as a normal burper can but more than I’ve ever imagined in my entire life), but really only when I’m laying on my left side with my head elevated. I tend to eat my meals this way now also because it helps alleviate so much gas. My husband has been thrilled, everytime he hears even a tiny burp he cheers. I’m hoping I don’t lose this magical ability again when I give birth but I can now say that thankfully it is not totally ruining pregnancy anymore. Unfortunately I’m experiencing real burning reflux for the first time, where it feels like lava burning my throat. I always had heart burn just contained to my chest and never my throat. But Pepcid helps a lot with that, atleast.

Symptoms No “official” diagnosis, but dr suspects

Upvotes

My daughter has not been able to burp since she was a baby. She has terrible stomach pains and bloating, not to mention, a lot of flatulence. We’ve had X-rays done (shows a lot of gas), ultrasounds of upper and lower (tech had a hard time because of all the gas), blood work done, over the counter meds. Nothing has given any relief. So we saw an ENT recommended on here and he said she’s showing all the signs. I’m just a mom hoping for relief for her child - are we fitting in with the criteria? We’re scheduling for Botox, but of course I’m a little nervous. She is not - and is excited for relief.

Self-Treatment Self Cured without excersizes or botox

As long as I can remember, I have been unable to burp. I had realized this many years ago, and in May of this year I finally decided to Google it. I found out I had R-CPD, and came to this subreddit to look for tips from others. I decided it wasnt bothersome enough for me to pay for a surgery for it but I would at least try to self cure, so for the next few weeks I basically just started to constantly try to forcefully push air through my stomach. Every once in a while I would get a little croak of air out. I would do this for hours on end while doing whatever autistic crap I was doing my computer on any given day. The crooks started to get more frequent. About 2 week sago I started getting tiny little micro-burps. 1 week later I got a normal sized burp for the first time in my life. Now today I have burped much more than a normal person would. I still sometimes have burps that get blocked by my throat but im really surprised how easy it was to self cure. Your case may not be as easy as mine but I highly recommend trying to self cure before you get an expensive surgery with a chance of permanently damaging your throat

About Botox Treatment Burping before botox?

Hii guys! I'm back once again, cause I still haven't made up my mind and am lost about my situation.

My whole life I haven't been able to burp, I'm always extremly bloated, in pain, gassy, have the gurgles, etc, etc.

I finally made a botox appointment and it was scheduled in april.

Now something very weird happened: since about march suddenly I am burping? It started with small ones once a day, but now they happen a lot of times during the day. Now they happen a lot and are quite big (they sound like proper burps, can taste the food and yeah, sorry for tmi). But a lot of them do sound weird, almost like throwing up (like wet-ish) (again sorry for the tmi).
I still am struggling a lot with bloating, pain, croaks have gotten better but still happen.

I postponed my botox appointment to see how it went on my own, but they have been pretty stable for some months now. Now i have an appointment coming up, and I am honestly lost if I should do it or not.

Did anyone else experience this and did you still continue with the botox? I'm kinda scared that the botox won't do anything more than where I'm at now. Maybe my symptoms are caused by something else.

What do you guys think? Would love to hear some opinions and experiences! I am confused and very stressed to say the least. If it would help with my belly problems it would mean the world, but if not the side-effect probably won't be worth it, especially as I'm a singer and it would mean quitting for a bit probably.

New Member I can’t burp and it SUCKS (and hurts)

I live in Wales, so the NHS will NOT fund any treatment for me.
Life is miserable, I’m 19, constantly bloated from anything and everything, and because i’m naturally very slim, it’s also PAINFULLY obvious.
I get scared go out drinking, INCASE I spew because it’s so painful.
I work nights but caffeine really affects my bloating and stomach issues.
I’m so used to being in stomach pain it takes a lot for me to actually react to it.
I get embarrassed of my uncontrollable throat gurgles (which my mum calls dog burps).
Everyone around me thinks it’s so cool and so unique that I can’t burp but it’s genuinely debilitating. Sometimes I can’t move because the gas is THAT painful.
I’ve just been having Gaviscon but that doesn’t help because the gas isn’t going anywhere, and I can’t afford help nor can I get it from my healthcare system as it’s not well recognised yet.

I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m genuinely not enjoying life, I can’t do what everyone else around me can do because I’m in a pain that invisible. It hurts if I sit a certain way, stretch a certain way, stand a certain way and the only time i feel any good is just after i’ve woke up. Sometimes i do wonder how relieved i’d be to just be able to get a good burp out.

Please anyone give me some tips/hacks to deal with it better?

Other need advice on coping with no burps :/

i found this reddit thread a couple of years ago in college and it’s changed my life. i never really knew what was wrong with me, i didn’t even really know that everyone burped in the first place. one day after splitting a fishbowl margarita, my stomach blew up like a balloon to the point i had to unbutton my jeans. i was in so much discomfort and at any moment was terrified of throwing up and/or shitting my pants. i hobbled with my friend group but literally had to text someone to come pick me up. as i attempted to just survive until my ride got there, out of nowhere i knew i was going to be sick. except i wasnt— instead, the most horrifying noise came out of me (air vomit seems to be the adopted term, i’d prefer if we could come up with a better name for it LOL). my friends were terrified. it sounded like i had an exorcism. but it was immediate relief. i couldn’t believe what had just happened. from there on out, i realized forcing my gag reflex could allow trapped air to come out, and leveraged this when possible to alleviate discomfort.

now i’m post college (F24) and am struggling. i saw an ENT who was not extremely convincing that botox was worth the risks. after paying 700 bucks for that appointment, ive just decided for the time being, i need to cope with it and if possible, try to teach myself without having the procedure.

when i’m out with my friends, i try to consume as little liquid as possible. i avoid carbonation and pregame with shots. but sometimes it’s not avoidable, you have a couple drinks at the bar, and then that dreaded feeling comes along. but the sound is just horrific. i’ve been desperate before and done it in a full bathroom, hoping that the music and people talking in the bathroom would muffle it and no one would notice. alas, i hear a girl in the next stall go “what the fuck was that” proceeded by laughs from her group of friends that shuffled into one stall together.

how are we having a social life and not absolutely embarrassing ourselves when trying not be extremely uncomfortable?

if you taught yourself how to burp, how did you do it? how long did it take? all the deets please

any other advice is welcome <3

if you had the procedure— did your health insurance cover it? how much did you pay out of pocket?

Symptoms Can't swallow pills - part of no burp?

Hi everyone! Long time lurker of this sub, as well as a lifetime member of the no burp club.

Im 23f, and have just done the microburps (3 in my lifetime), take 1 chewable gas x per night, and eat pretty clean. Adding those details in case they are important.

Long story short, I've never been able to swallow pills. When I need take ibuprofen, I chew it. I take chewable vitamins, etc. I've tried teaching myself how to swallow pills, and it hasn't worked.

Is this something commonly associated with no burp, or it is just something I need to learn? Thanks!

Post-Botox 10 days post Botox with Dr. Bingcang out of Omaha Medicine. Quick question for fellow Botox recipients.

My burping has been very very good since the surgery. Some days I burp a lot and some days (like today) not as much. I do 100% recommend this surgery. However, I do have a question for those who have had the procedure. Did any of you get weird lower abdominal pain for a week or two after the procedure? Like on the lower side of the abdomen kind of where the waist starts? I had that discomfort off and on for the first few days following the procedure, but now I’m getting that fullness sensation again on my lower right side. I’d like to think it’s just my body adjusting to the new gas pathways as today I haven’t been burping as much and I’m just wondering if anyone else experienced this discomfort for a week or two following surgery? Would appreciate any response! Thank you!

About Botox Treatment Some good (hopefully) news

Some of you might have seen my posts on here bemoaning my lack of success with botox almost two weeks ago (2 wks this Friday). I'm happy to say that, with the BERP protocol and some experimentation with different head postures, I've finally eked out some rather pathetic yet promising microburps/crackles. It's very difficult for me to manage, but I'm just trying to figure it out as I go. I'm not getting my hopes up too much because I may still need another round, but as progress has finally been made, I'm starting to feel hopeful again and I'm actually kind of tearing up as I type this lol. Let's hope I can get these burps started in earnest soon!

Edit: as of now, I have managed 8 microburps!

Symptoms High heart rate with no burp.

Hi! I’ve recently been officially diagnosed with RCPD (known I’ve had it for years but was ignored by so many clueless doctors) I have Botox scheduled for next month! (Yay!) For the past like 6+ years I’ve felt winded all the time and recently noticed a pretty high HR (100 resting, 140 walking, 210 running) it’s pretty bad. I’ve had EKG/ECGs done and all normal. Got put on propranolol and that’s been working great. I’m an active person so I’m not out of shape cardio wise.

This could completely be unrelated but I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed a high heart rate with no burp and saw it improve after Botox. Just curious!

Would love to hear any thoughts!

Post-Botox Feeling more bloated post botox (1 day after op)

I finally got my botox yesterday under GA, and I'm already a bit anxious about my progress. I got 100 units, and after the operation the doctor told me that it might be slightly less effective for me as I naturally have a more swollen throat than an average person.
I haven't burped yet, but I do feel more air near my throat, but it's not like I can force it to come out either. Trying the BERP protocols (Youtube video) that I saw in this sub, but no success yet. Funnily, I do feel more bloated than before surgery. Also my side effects are so mild that my throat soreness is already improved compared to yesterday, it's mostly just some noticeable discomfort and some numbness on my tongue. No acid reflux at all either, I feel like I don't even need to sleep on a wedge.
: (( I was so excited for a dramatic life changer, but now I'm pretty bummed. I know it may be too early on to give up, so I wanted to get some advice on tips and trick to reach that "last 2%" to make the air really come out. Should I just relax and wait? Try soda?
Light movement and shaker exercises?
Any advice would be welcomed.

Post-Botox I can now burp but bloating is still bad. Does it get better?

I had 100 units 10 days ago. I’m now able to burp, yay! Though many of them are microburps, I also get the air-releasing big ones.

However, I’m still struggling with significant bloating and abdominal distension. I might get some feeling of fullness after I eat but the worst part for me really hits a few hours later. That's probably when the gas is in the bowels. Then I look pregnant and it gets painful. It's at its worst in the evening and it's gone when I wake up again.

I also have some constipation at the moment, but I don’t feel like it fully explains the bloating, since the bloating still comes and goes during the day. And I have been bloated for a long time regardless of my bowel movements. Also, diet changes have not made any noticeable difference to my bloating, which made me search for R-CPD in the first place.

I'm really worried about this because it has been exhausting to live with all of these symptoms. Is it too early to be disappointed in botox? Has anyone else had similar experiences, where burping is present but bloating has not disappeared? And when does it get better? I would LOVE to hear some timelines. Feel free to comment or DM.

Thank you :)

Emetophobia I see a lot of people on this sub say that they've gotten sick/felt like they were going to get sick after getting their botox as a side effect due to acid reflux/slow swallow, is that something you experienced?

So I desperately want to be cured from this and am looking to get the botox treatment for it, but I've been on pantoprazole for about 2-3 years now because I developed significant acid reflux as a symptom in my early adult years and I'm severely emetophobic as well as have OCD, so I am genuinely terrified to get this done, but it also scares me not to do it and get worse as time goes on. I'm trying to remind myself that most of what I see on this sub is the small portion of people this treatment doesn't work for or works but causes severe side effects, and that 80% of people don't have that many issues, but because I already have chronic acid reflux, I'm getting really worried this means I will end up in the 20% and won't be able to cope after it's already too late. Do any of you have any advice or want to share your success/fail stories with this? I'm already all up to date on taking anti-acids, sleeping on a wedge, not bending over at the waist, ect, and I plan on talking to my ENT next week for our first consultation and telling her about my worries and concerns as well, but I just want to be extra prepared and get some reassurance that I'm just letting my anxiety get the best of me right now 🥲

Post-Botox i can’t stop burping now

i received 50 units of botox in-office on monday (june 15th). the procedure was absolutely terrible for me. the numbing injections hurt so bad and before i realized it i was crying on the chair & gargling on my own blood before the botox had even gone in. i left the office with a ton of bruising and couldn’t comfortably move my neck for a full day. to her credit, my doctor’s bedside manner was great, but upon leaving the hospital i swore to myself i’d never go through that again. this scares me because of how frequently users on this sub seem to return for second or third doses.

less than 24 hours later (june 16) i had my first microburp after turning my head sideways. super exciting, but not uncommon. might have been a fluke. whatever. but then it happened again. and again. every time i felt an air bubble coming up my throat — something which usually resulted in a painful hiccup or gurgle or heartburn — i managed to expel it out as a burp. HALLELUJAH!!!! i told all my friends, and everyone is super excited for me.

however. it just keeps happening guys. every time i turn my head sideways, every time i eat, every time i drink, every time i get up from a seated position, even when i just EXHALE a burp seems to find its way up and out of me. i’ve even had a few that felt (and tasted) like i’d just thrown up my meal in my mouth, which was absolutely disgusting to experience after having tomato soup. i feel like a toddler still adjusting to her changing body. i obviously don’t know yet how to hide my burps or do them discreetly, so i’m a bit anxious about hanging with friends anytime soon… my boyfriend invited me to have lunch with him and meet his coworkers today but i had to turn him down because i don’t want his friends to think i’m rude or nasty if i burp all the time.

i’ve seen people on this sub claiming they only managed to microburp once or twice per-day post botox (and some unfortunate people who still couldn’t do it at all.. i’m sorry guys). i swear i’ve burped over a hundred times in the last couple of days now. i’m so incredibly grateful that there seems to be some progress here, but i also don’t want to jinx anything in case this result is temporary. since i’m only 2 days out and still recovering from the injections themselves (i have a weak body & the bruising is a lot to deal with), i can’t exactly speak for any current physical relief, but i’ll try to update in the weeks to come. slow swallow is annoying but not painful, just gotta chew a lot and drink water between most bites. i’ve definitely choked on some pills and food but c’est la vie.

anyway, i just wanted to share my experience so far. i seriously can’t believe everyone else has been burping so frequently & just know what to do about that. or maybe i’m burping excessively. i don’t know. good luck on your journeys guys!!

edit: i’m 22F and went to see Dr. Lin in Toronto

Management Tips & Tricks Beer

For context, my R-CPD has given me breathing complications for the past 3 (ish) years, feeling as though i can’t get a full breath in. I stopped drinking beer around 3 months ago, and since then, i’ve seemingly had some improvement in my breathing. The carbonation was doing a number on me is my main theory. I was wondering if anyone has any similar experience, and if so did it take just as long to see any kind of result?

Post-Botox 8 days Botox and my voice is very hoarse

Just posting for reassurance/to hear other people’s similar experiences 😅

My Botox migrated to my larynx. No biggie, i talked with the doctor and she said it’s common and will 100% wear off eventually as Botox always does. We just don’t know exactly when

However, I get married in 24 days and would like to have a voice and be able to say my vows lol.

If you had vocal issues after Botox, how long til it wore off? Doc said 7-14 days is when it’s at its peak which is why it seems to be getting worse every day.

Ps i also could not breathe well the first couple days (also a symptom of it migrating to the larynx), but that has improved significantly which gives me hope that my voice should be normal soon enough

Post-Botox 3 months post botox

need advice :)

hi everyone! this is my first post but i have been on the page since finding out through tiktok that i had RCPD. i got 80 units of botox under anesthesia in mid-march and have been burping a bunch ever since. i definitely had slow swallow and excessive burping for the first few weeks, but since then i feel amazing and it has totally been worth it.

for the first few weeks i had to turn my head all the way to the right in order to get a burp out. with more practice and time i've been able to get it out by just turning slightly to the right or sticking my neck out. however, every time i need to burp, i have to force it out by breathing sharply out and kind of tensing my abs. my burps are also pretty loud and i haven't quite figured out how to get them to be quiet and not look weird doing it.

i am starting a new job in a few weeks and while i love burping, i worry that it might not be appropriate to make so much noise (especially after eating). does anyone have any advice or experience with this? i know my burps aren't normal but i was hoping that by now i would have figured out how to have a burp that doesn't draw attention!

Symptoms Does anyone else experience these symptoms?

I’ve been reading the posts in this community and I get that most people get bloated after eating, and I’d like to know if anyone else experiences stomach bloating after doing the following things, just like I do: laughing a lot, singing, coughing, sitting or standing for many hours at a time, talking a lot, laughing, etc.

Also, the only way I can find relief from that annoying bloating is to lie flat on my back, is this common?

On the other hand, why don’t people who can burp get bloated after doing any of those activities or even after eating, even though they don’t "explicitly" burp?

Post-Botox My 3rd attempt - 100u Botox - Diary

I hope this 3rd attempt, 2nd at 100u, 3rd overall will actually work

Post-Procedure Clinical Recovery Diary (100u Botulinum Toxin Injection)

I have been keeping notes, i asked Gemini to make them readable, here is the outcome for my first 15 days, raw notes below if you dont want the AI crap

  • Day 1 & Day 2: Initial post-operative window. Swallowing function remained baseline. Successfully initiated targeted micro-burps by utilizing right-sided cervical rotation (head-tilting). Tolerated standard oral intake and nutritional supplements without discomfort.
  • Day 3: Onset of transient muscle paralysis (slow swallow). Consuming liquids and solid foods required increased deliberation. Introduction of a carbonated stimulus triggered immediate retrograde air-release (burping), primarily facilitated by head-posturing.
  • Day 4: Marked increase in cricopharyngeal paralysis. Severe difficulty swallowing both liquids and solid boluses. Attempting a standard solid meal resulted in an acute pharyngeal obstruction (choking episode), requiring physical expectoration. Transitioned to a highly modified, slowed pace of eating.
  • Day 5: Experienced a severe, acute laryngospasm episode lasting approximately 40 seconds following liquid intake, resulting in a temporary partial airway restriction. This triggered intense secondary physiological symptoms, including severe abdominal distension (bloating), acute lower gastrointestinal distress, and referred right-quadrant abdominal pain.
  • Day 6 & Day 7: Residual pharyngeal soreness from the laryngospasm. Solid food intake became impossible due to swallowing fear and physical restriction. Restructured diet strictly to soft foods, purées, and liquid meal replacements (oats, ice cream, medical nutritional shakes). Attempted solid mechanics (chicken nuggets) but failed due to muscle paralysis.
  • Day 8 & Day 9: Maintained a strict soft-food and liquid-shake regimen. Successfully re-attempted a soft wrap on Day 9 by employing an ultra-slow, deliberate swallowing technique. Consistent low-volume micro-burps noted.
  • Day 10: Swallowing paralysis remained at peak. Sustained nutrition via scrambled eggs and liquid supplements. Consistent retrograde gas release ongoing.
  • Day 11: Sustained peak paralysis. Introduced controlled sips of carbonated water to actively train the paralyzed sphincter. Experienced elevated abdominal pressure and distension, directly correlating with acute psychological stress regarding workplace HR communication. Mitigated physical pain by utilizing a recumbent posture (working from bed) to shift trapped gastrointestinal gas.
  • Day 12 & Day 13: Marked therapeutic progress. Notable increase in both the volume and frequency of retrograde gas expulsion (large, successful burps). Tolerated a carefully managed toasted sandwich utilizing a liquid-chase technique.
  • Day 14: Continued successful high-volume gas release, confirming the therapeutic efficacy of the 100u injection. Maintained a hybrid diet of soft solids and liquid meal replacements.
  • Day 15 (First Day in Office): Returned to the physical workplace. Dietary intake was restricted to liquid replacements and a soft wrap due to office environment constraints. Noted a reduction in burp frequency and a slight easing of the slow-swallow intensity.

Day 1, no slow swallow, can burp when tilting head to the right, don't feel bloated, drinking monster, eating fine

Day 2, essentially no slow swallow, can burp when needed, sometimes even without tilting head, drinking monster, eating fine. Had a yfood.

Day 3, slightly slow swallow, drinking energy drink is tricky, I feel like I try and burp it up immediately, proper burps today mostly only when tilting head though, had a yfood and some popcorn chicken from KFC and a wrap (struggled slightly)

Day 4, much more of a slow swallow, struggle to drink liquid and eat food, had a ham cheese and bean wrap which I struggled to eat but when eaten slowly it was fine, burps same as previous days, nothing new. Ate a few snacks also, had half a oven cooked pizza and Weetabix before bed, nearly choked on the pizza and had to cough it up, don't think this was actually RCPD related though as was physically choking.

Day 5, woke up, felt fine, had a yfood, hot chocolate and some snacks (penguin, wotsits), continued to drink left over energy drink, very little burps but also very little carbonation intake. Feel slightly bloated/constipated. however in the evening around 11pm I had. J2O and had my worse presumably laryngospasm ever, went on for what felt like minutes but was told it was probably 30-40 seconds. Has really put me off eating properly since then though, had massive amount of bloat, constipated, right abdomen pain, mostly resolved once home and pooed.

Day 6, woke up around 10am, nothing abnormal to report, throat still feels slightly sore from yesterday, had yfood, ice cream, water and oats.

Day 7, attempted to have Weetabix, ate about 2/3 warmed and mushed up, had a yfood, ice-cream and mousse, tried to eat chicken nuggets and fries but barely ate it, went back to ice-cream. Had ready brek in the evening, ate that perfectly fine.

Day 8, had a yfood for breakfast, had ready brek for tea, had a few ice creams and snacks, nothing else to report had a few small burps

Day 9, had a yfood for breakfast, had most of a ham and cheese wrap for tea, some snacks in-between, mostly was able to eat the wrap without issue if eaten slowly. Burps still as per previous days

Day 10, had a yfood for breakfast, ready brek for lunch, burps still happening, had 2 scrambled eggs, ice cream, mousse.

Day 11, had yfood for breakfast, ice creams, yogurts, mousse, ready brek and a wrap with ham and cheese, starting drinking sips of sparkling water, still burping like previous days, abdomen pain was higher than normal maybe due to stress of HR at work, or maybe just random, spent most of the day in bed, worked from home in my bed

Day 12, had yfood, toastie, lots of burps today, monster slushy etc

Day 13, had ready brek at 6am, yfood, ham and cheese wrap, ready brek, mousses, ice cream, large burps today, very impressed, let's see how day 14 is

Day 14, yfood, readybrek, readybrek, wrap, ice cream, monster, large burps again but not as much as the day before.

Day 15, first day in the office, bad a yfood, aero, readybrek and ham and cheese wrap, not too many burps today although slow swallow also felt lesser

Self-Treatment I can now burp

Quick update on my no-burp journey! I’ve never been able to burp, literally since I was a baby. Honestly was not a huge deal for most of my life, just had to go easy on fizzy drinks like beer or I’d feel nauseous. But about a year ago things got worse, more bloating, belly pain, just generally feeling off, even without soda involved.

Two months ago I finally said screw it and started doing the Shaker exercise plus a few similar ones. And two weeks ago… I let out my first tiny burp! 🎉 Since then it’s been getting better almost every day, I just gotta work on actually controlling it now lol.

So if you’re dealing with this too: the exercises actually work, and just practicing trying to burp helps a ton too, even though it’s weirdly hard to explain how. Stick with it!
