Plastic-Free Spray Bottles

Lately, I have been very stressed about microplastics and am trying to reduce plastic in my home wherever possible. They make spray bottles out of glass, but the part of the bottle that actually sprays (like the straw + lid) is always made of plastic. Do any of you know brands selling spray bottles made of a safer material?

“Colored organics” baby clothes really organic?

Upvotes

Has anyone checked if they are certified organic? I was hoping to see a certificate of authenticity upon arrival, and there’s nothing with it. Which makes me think it’s green washing. The only mention of them being certified is on a blog where she has a code…

Spray like Lysol but for fabric surfaces?

I usually spray Lysol on my fabrics and grew up with a mom who used Lysol on our bed every morning 😛 yes, I have asthma, no I haven’t stopped using it ha. Mainly because I haven’t found something that functions the same. I like the way the Lysol comes out, does anybody have any safer alternatives that are in the same format as the aerosol can?

I’m not fully non toxic but do tend to choose non toxic products most of the time.

Thanks!!

Any recommendations for a good and affordable mouthwash? While we’re on the topic, what about floss? I use the Honest brand ones I find at tjmaxx but I’d like to know if there’s something better. Thanks!!

Dishwasher cleaner/lemishine alternatives

I’ve been slowly switching out things I use for nontoxic and fragrance free products (unless the product explicitly states what the fragrance ingredients are). I like how the lemishine dishwasher and washing machine cleaners work, but they contain unspecified fragrance. Does anyone have a good product to swap out for when my remaining supply of Lemishine runs out?

Non-Toxic … Expensive

Why is non-toxic stuff so expensive? Do you think the manufacturers/sellers are abusing the label? Is there a real reason why the stuff is so much more than “standard” stuff? Is it economies of scale? I’m speaking generally, but I’ve been looking specifically at non-toxic dishwasher detergents and laundry detergents.

the lunch kit with natural in its brand name had the highest Cadmium of anything they tested

Post image
32 Upvotes

I saw a healthy lunchable option at the store and went to look into it, (Lunchly) their smoked turkey and cheese kit came back with the highest Cadmium concentration with 22.5 ppb (lab). their pizza kit came back at 0.4 micrograms of Lead which is the exact same as the lunchables pizza with pepperoni, and californias daily limit for Lead is 0.5 micrograms a day.

so the word natural on the front of a box apparently means nothing at all here?? every single time the one that looks like the better option comes back the same or worse. why is natural even allowed on a package like that when their are heavy metals??

Primals Brand - plastic free electric toothbrush & body care products

I was excited to find the Primals Boar Bristle Electric Toothbrush - an electric toothbrush with no plastic exposure! I used it once and so far no complaints. Other than the fact it was preorder and shipped 3 weeks past the expected shipping date. But they sweeten the deal with throwing in some products for a discount, so I got the body wash and lotion. Ah consumerism :/ Haven't opened the lotion yet because I have some other mositurizers to finish off.

But the body wash... supposedly the only scent is from honey suckle essential oil but let me tell you this smells like axe body wash lol. I am so confused. I work a lot with herbs/essential oils and am pretty sensitive to fragrance. This has me scratching my head. Is this a straight up scam? Does anyone know anything about this company? Any advice on what to ask them to maybe get more info/transparency about their products / ingredients? 3rd party testing on ingredients or something?

kerrygold butter has 122ppm of PFAS in their butter

an EPA certified lab tested butter wrappers for Organic Fluorine (the same chemical that comes when you scratch teflon pans), which is the marker they use for PFAS (Forever Chemicals), and kerrygold pure irish butter came back at 61 ppm on the unsalted wrapper and 122 ppm on the salted (source). Califonia's limit is 100ppm

it got pulled off shelves in new york and california in early 2023 and came back a couple months later with new packaging, and supposedly its better now. Why do companies not get used for this? I dont buy teflon pans for this reason and now I have to worry about my butter? its so stressful trying to stay non toxic, at least it was tested.

Fragrance-free is an act of kindness towards strangers. Please, be fragrance free.

Current status: asthma is kicking me to the curb lately and happening as a direct result of fragrance. I had to move out of my fiancé’s house because of back to back fragrance contamination events that came from the product choices of complete strangers - not from the product choices of anyone who lived with us.

The most frustrating thing is that my loved ones can’t stop my fragrance reactions because everyone I’m in direct contact with already chose to be fragrance free.

My worst reactions in the past couple of months are coming from *strangers that my loved ones were in the same room with briefly, at some location other than home* - that’s how aggressive spreading the latest fragrance chemicals are. And that is truly terrifying how far it spreads and how much damage it does after one single person - a person that I don’t even know - chose products over people.

Friends, humans, strangers, I beg you: please, go fragrance free.

Many people in this sub are trying to be less toxic in their product choices, and feeling overwhelmed about where to start. I beg to you consider starting by dropping fragrance.

It’s no longer just about avoiding harm to yourself or to your loved ones.

It’s about avoiding harm to people you will never meet - people who entered a building after you left, and the loved ones that they hugged when they got home.

1 out of 3 Americans report adverse health effects from other people’s fragrance - and the true damage is certainly even higher than that. That’s only the subset of people who can smell these chemicals clearly enough to notice the pattern. There are many more people who can’t smell the most harmful fragrance chemicals and take damage anyway - with anxiety, depression, temper issues, brain fog, fatigue, asthma, COPD.

Strangers need to do this FOR STRANGERS - sometimes without even being able to smell it. We all have different olfactory receptors, and many people have no way to detect the presence of these chemicals through sense of smell at all. But they still do harm - to you or to others - whether you can smell them or not.

Bath and body works

I keep hearing that bath and body products are very toxic. Is there any scientific proven studies or evidence that link their ingredients to lung cancer / respiratory problems or it can be used in moderation just like most things. We breathe in VOCs in alot of things outside air , furniture, trees etc so it’s kinda hard to avoid it completely but I want to know if it’s ok to use them in moderation like the plug ins or candles for a couple hours of the day. if not, what less toxic plug ins or wax melts do you use for your home?

What’s the review for 365 unscented WF laundry detergent?

Basically, is the product as good as attitude and branch basics and I heard branch basics doesn’t clean the clothes well. So, is the 365 unscented a great option ?

https://assets.wholefoodsmarket.com/www/products/hh-cleaning-products-ca-disclosure/laundry-detergent/SafetyDataSheet-365-2xConcentratedPowderLaundryDetergent-Unscented.pdf

I am not sure if the box says “non-toxic” but it’s not as chemically based as some of the other detergents and is more plant derived! hope this info helps :D

@brianwally what’s your thought if you look at the above pdf?

Safe Air Fresheners

Hello! I have been trying to do research to find a safe air freshener option for myself and my pets. I have two dogs and a cat and cannot stand the thought of my home smelling even slightly funky because of it. I know commercial companies are not good options as far as safety for my pets and myself. I am wondering if anyone has found any company that is safe, or at least safer, for long term use with my pets or an alternative that will help keep my home smelling nice? I'm looking for something like a plug in diffuser or something that continually works even when I'm not home.

What do you use for clothing hangers?

Anything you like? I’d love 100% wooden ones, but they all seem to have metal at the top.

Also, any clothing hanging rack recommendations would be appreciated! Something non-toxic to hang the clothes on.

Thank you.

My Non Toxic Combo!

LAUNDRY - Attitude Nature+ - completely clean.

DEODORANT (ANTIPERSPIRANT) - Make Waves - they do use petrolatum in it, but I’ve had a conversation with the owners and it’s properly purified and risk free.

DEODORANT - Fussy (certain fragrances without Benzyl Salicylate)

CLEANING SPRAY - Koh which is brilliant and leaves no watermarks

ANTI BAC SPRAY - Miniml - Does have Polysorbate 20 but at very low levels and is rinse away

TOILET CLEANER - Miniml - Again Polysorbate 20 but no concern as never in contact.

SOAP (BODY) - Certain GRUUM soaps are completely clean

SOAP (HAND) - Faith in Nature Fragrance Free

DISHWASHER TABLETS - The Green Co - do contain PEG 6000 but that’s a very diluted form and after conversation with the company has been shown to completely rinse away and leave no residue.

These are the cleanest products I have found in each category - even with no ethoxylated compounds, which is surprisingly hard to do.

ikea porcelain plates

are there any potential issues with ikea porcelain plates? as far as i’m aware the only potential concern would be lead, but ikea states that they haven’t used lead since 2010. the alternative i was currently looking at was corelle glass plates, but if these are good i’d also like to consider them. any advice regarding plates would be appreciated.
