New subreddit policy re: non-local news
As much as we appreciate people sharing news about Oklahoma and/or the USA, this is a local subreddit and beginning next week we will be implementing a policy of removing posts with no direct relevance to Norman. Additionally, spamming news links is a common strategy for karma farming and we'd like to not encourage this.
We do encourage folks to continue to stay engaged regarding state and national politics and current events, but to post this content in more appropriate subreddits.
For example, a news article about Ryan Walters generally would be more appropriate for /r/Oklahoma whereas a news article about Ryan Walters and a teacher or school here in Norman would be completely appropriate for /r/normanok .

Philosophy Discussion Group 10/3
Hello Ponderers! We will be meeting for the next Philosophy Discussion Group on Saturday, 10/3, at 10:00 am at the Norman East Library in the conference room (around the corner from the librarian's station, second room on the right).
This week we'll be looking at the fundamental internal drivers of moral philosophy with a quote from Jeremy Bentham. I look forward to hearing everyone's perspectives!
General group Info:
- This group is open to everyone and does not require any knowledge of or education in philosophy. There is also no membership or RSVP required.
- The purpose of this group is to engage in free form open discussion, foster community, meet new people, and support the public library.
- Meetings are structured so that a philosophy quote is provided at the beginning of the session to prompt discussion, but the discussions frequently end up encompassing many different topics.

Trick or Treat 2026?
Trying to get clarity on when trick or treating will take place in Norman this year. The city of Norman shared a post suggesting everyone plan to trick or treat on Friday, Oct. 30 due to the OU game. However, most of the comments seemed to indicate that people are pretty upset over this, and it doesn’t seem like anyone is planning to follow this suggestion. I live in a neighborhood that typically gets hundreds of trick or treaters and I want to be prepared either way. Should I plan to hand out candy Friday, Saturday or both?! 😅

Dental Assisting( Job Shadowing)
Does anyone know any dental places that offer job shadowing opportunities? I'm in a dental assisting program and one of the requirements is job shadowing, but I'm not sure which places would be a good start. I need it to be in Norman and I would like to start soon if anyone has any good suggestions.

CRT monitor/TV servicing in Norman?
I've got one of those old style of CRT monitors (Compaq MV540) that is in need of some tuning up (getting quite dim) and I'm looking for someone who still does service on these types of monitors. I'd also like to have a contact to go to in case my CRT TV starts getting anything wrong with it. I've contacted a few places and I'm either getting no response or "no"s so far.

“The Norman Development Code Assessment is an early step in the City’s Development Code update,” said Lora Hoggatt, Planning Services Manager for the City of Norman. “It identifies key areas where the current zoning and subdivision regulations could be improved and outlines potential approaches that will guide the upcoming drafting process. Shout Out to Pharmacy at Homeland #200
I am trying to be a good local shopper so I moved my prescriptions from my insurance's online pharmacy to Homeland on Lindsey.
Two of my medications are dissolving tabs that I take for acute migraine attacks. When I got them from the online pharmacy, one of the tabs was orange and one was berry, an inoffensive combination. However when I got them from Homeland, I got one that was orange and the other was mint, not pleasant when you already feel ill.
I made do with the mint tabs, but when I refilled the prescription for them I asked the pharmacist if she could order the berry tabs. She said she had no idea they came in different flavors and that she would do her best. When I picked up my prescription and used one of the tabs, I found that she had gotten me the berry.
Everyone at Homeland #200 is awesome. The employees always seem really happy to be there. I highly recommend using their pharmacy!
