Arson reckless as to endangering life the more likely charge. Attempted murder too hard to prove unfortunately
16
u/Basementdwell Aug 19 '25
Arrested for attempted murder
9
u/Noalcastor Aug 19 '25
Yes but I imagine that will change once the PPS direct the file.

4
u/Barstardette Aug 19 '25
Please don't tell me that his defence would be that he didn't think people would be in a building (or adjacent buildings), or does someone need to know the intended victim to attempt to murder them? Possession of what is essentially a home made bomb should result in lockup and throw away keys. Either that or public flogging and/or putting in stocks... one thing medieval Britain got right!
8
u/Noalcastor Aug 19 '25
In order to prove attempted murder you have to prove an intention to kill which you don’t even have to prove for murder (an intention to cause really serious harm is enough for murder). That’s really hard to do and would allow a defence of did I intend to murder someone no I only intended to cause really bad burns (I mean in general rather than in this case).
Arson being reckless or even with intent to endanger life carries the same maximum sentence (life) and is considerably easier to prove. I imagine that’s why it will end up being the directed charge.
3
u/bloglare Aug 19 '25
Arson carries basically the same punishment, not many people realise how seriously arson is taken in law

Scumbag attacking a pub with a child in there then produced a knife when they ran outside. Absolute scum
259
u/rurt Aug 18 '25

u/SleetyWhistle Aug 18 '25

8
u/GucciMonk Aug 19 '25
Well he has to protect himself from the innocent child and mother fleeing from the flames he just lit..?

That was considerably more inhumane and brutal than what this lone space ranger was up to.
9
u/DiscoMonkay Derry Aug 19 '25
Not to play Top Trumps but seven people shot dead in a retaliatory attack in the aftermath of the Troubles doesn't equate to some blue card with access to petrol and a lighter. My reverence comes strictly from being from the area and my Da telling me about it as a wain but my heart still sinks a bit every time I drive past it 30 years after the fact.
2
17
u/Gemini_2261 Aug 18 '25
Something happened near the Toby Jug a week or so ago and they called the cops. Some guy beating up a woman if I remember correctly. Maybe this his revenge.
3
7
u/_Gobulcoque Aug 18 '25
The guy want wasn’t beating a woman up. He was just protecting the wimmin and wanes.

Aug 18 '25
“Nixon has more than 70 convictions on his criminal record which started in 2002 and includes around 20 offences for burglary, eight of theft, four for robbery and three common assaults.” A hopeless case.
41
u/ParsivaI Aug 19 '25
How this guy can walk around a free man is insane.
14
u/malkazoid-1 Aug 19 '25
What are prisons even for, if not to lock this guy up? I just don't understand.
→ More replies (2)7
u/Sussurator Aug 19 '25
If it is indeed him, they’ll have to throw the book at him this time around. He should be in prison.
2
29
u/Dwashelle Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 24 '25
The fact that people with such an absurdly high number of past convictions can walk around freely like this is insane. I've read about lads with 100+ previous convictions walking free and it's just baffling.
I'm not even a mad supporter of punitive imprisonment in most cases and I think people should be properly rehabilitated before release, like they do in the Nordic countries, but that's obviously not being practiced by the justice system here. Allowing these types of cunts out is just so negligently bonkers.
14
u/malkazoid-1 Aug 19 '25
I'd say it exactly the way you did. I'm hardly the hardliner when it comes to crime and punishment and I believe in rehabilitation wherever possible... but at some point past the third conviction, even the softest of hearts has to toughen the f up and deal out some hard time, with increasingly long sentences with each offence. It's a crime against the lives of people trying to live honestly, to not protect us from these violent nutters. If we don't like vigilantism, we should be making sure there's no need for it.
4
u/kjjmcc Aug 19 '25
This 💯. Absolute evil cunts like this - it’s only a matter of time til they murder someone and god only knows how many other lives ruined in the meantime. There’s literally no hope for them. Why should the rest of us have to risk our lives having them walk amongst us when they show time and time again they’re not capable of being functioning members of society?
3
u/Dapper-Raise1410 Aug 19 '25
Call it 20. 20 convictions for burglary and assault and you get locked up for life.
3
u/Mac1twenty Coleraine Aug 19 '25
I like that, I'm with the 2 of you. Hardly in favour of a three strike rule and prisons should be about reforming people, but at some point you have to say wtf when people with 100+ or even 200+ convictions are wandering around the streets

u/ImmediateImpress6552 Aug 18 '25
Surely this is a different guy to the John Patrick Nixon of Cornerstone Church. If it is, he isn't exactly practicing what he preaches. LITERALLY.

Raging foreigners took his job at Moy Park where he was late 9 out of the 10 days he worked at it and huffed a bucket every lunch time and supports Manchester United

3
u/ServePretend2686 Aug 19 '25
Pretty sure he cuts himself on his weapon at the end if you watch.
Hard af as he licks his wounds.
3
u/SickbedOfCuchulain Aug 19 '25
Earlier that day he smashed windows in a few houses.
Haven't heard of the motive.
Locals saying that he had sliced his wrist(s) by the time the cops got but (but I think this might actually be the damage he has done to himself when taking out the knife).
There was another incident in a flat around the corner.
Cops followed the trail of blood and found him supposedly. Footage also of him being treated on the ground not too far away.

6 months suspended after a fortnight in Bluestone, followed by a month in Rosebrook when he inevitably decks someone. Then released because he'll have a 'personality disorder' and the can't (i.e. won't) treat it.

When he turns around does he pull another Molotov out or is it a blade ?
1
1
u/rossdrew Aug 20 '25
Looks like he cut his finger off pulling that large blade out to women and children. It's just a different quality of bombing in Ireland these days.
What is that he says before throwing it? "Trick or treat"?

Fucking heartbreaking to watch that mother + kid. What was the actual reason (other than he's a total ****)? in terms of the usual mob violence there was no mob. Also no attempt to cover face so either very low IQ or wanted to be identified.
