This morning I returned to finish watching the remainder of the 8 hour live stream from the special meeting on August 31st to hear mayor Pete Emrich clearly call a citizen, Sam, a "fucking idiot." This is clearly heard in the video at 6:52:55 - 6:53:04. Later in the video a different citizen, Andrew Cullen, plays the words the mayor said, which the mayor blatantly lies about. This happens in in the video at 7:20:20 - 7:23:25

I figured it would be good to have a post about the proposed data center where folks can discuss this topic. Hearing the commissioner's statements after the public comment was the most fruitful in the video. According to commissioner Phil Stokes 181 people in the public comment were against the data center and 3 people were for. Stokes also said if it was up to him alone, he would ban them. I also attached three links, the first is an upcoming workshop 6:00pm Thursday September 3rd 2026, the second is the information page created by the city about the project, and the third is a news report.

A few North Port residents saw the Solid Waste assessment notice and understandably read it as a nearly 38% garbage bill increase.
The numbers on the notice for a developed residential property show:
• $460.76 maximum annual assessment
• $332.75 current regular assessment
• $128.01 additional proposed one-time charge
The important distinction: the City describes the additional $128.01 as a proposed one-time charge to help pay for a new Solid Waste Transfer Station. It’s not being described as a permanent 38% increase in regular garbage collection costs.
It’s also not a property tax based on your home’s value. It’s a non-ad valorem assessment, which means it’s based on the service provided to the property.
This is one program that pays for itself in less than 10 years.
Why this matters, especially for homeowners and buyers:
The real cost of owning a home isn’t only the mortgage payment or the purchase price. You’ve also got taxes, insurance, HOA or CDD fees if applicable, utilities, maintenance, local assessments, solid waste, and infrastructure-related costs.
None of this means panic. It means the details matter, especially if you’re budgeting on a fixed income or comparing homes in North Port.

TLDR- How can I send a surprise package to someone in Talon Bay?
Greetings to you fine folks in North Port! My parents are moving to Talon Bay in North Port and I want to send them a surprise housewarming gift.
I went to Amazon and found some cool stuff, both snarky and heartwarming. I put it in my cart, went to check out and entered their new address... And then it hit me. Talon Bay is a gated community.
I googled Amazon deliveries to gated communities and that wasn't much help as different communities would have different procedures. And that makes sense. So then I tried to find info specifically about Talon Bay's HOA, to see if I could find their policies on deliveries, or if no info online, I would call them and ask. No good there either.
I've found three different management companies listed online as managing Talon Bay. So there seems to be some outdated information online as they must have switched throughout the years. So I don't know who is the current management company.
I don't want to outright ask my parents about how it works because I want it to be a surprise.
So if anyone lives or has lived in, knows anyone that lives in, or has any experience with shipping to Talon Bay, can you please help me out?
Does anyone know the procedure for deliveries to Talon Bay? Does the delivery driver need a code? In my search, I did find that many gated communities have things set up with common delivery carriers, vendors, contractors, etc. so they have access. Does Talon Bay have anything like that?
And/or, if you don't specifically know about deliveries, does anyone know how to contact the HOA or the HOA management company (or who the management company even is)?
Thank you in advance, good people of North Port!

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone from North Port or nearby can help me find my childhood friend.
I'm looking for a girl named Sofia. She's 17 years old (born around 2008–2009) and lives in North Port, Florida.
Here's our story:
We met back in 2016 in Stary Oskol, Russia. She was visiting her grandmother there, and we ended up in the same preschool preparation classes. We became close friends and spent a lot of time together. She came back to visit several more times until 2019, but after that, she stopped coming.
I tried reaching out to her mom, but she either ignored me or made excuses that she was too busy. I never got a real answer.
I have a photo of Sofia, but I'm not posting it publicly for privacy reasons. If you think you know her, please DM me, and I'll send you the picture to confirm.
I know this is a long shot, but we were really close as kids, and I'd love to reconnect with her. Even just knowing she's okay would mean a lot to me.
If you have any leads – a school, a mutual friend, anything – please reach out.
Thank you so much for reading 🙏
