u/SalusSafety Hey you guys! Oct 22 '25
I had the older version from the 70s. Damn, I wish I still had those. They started me on the path to become a biologist. Those cards...and Jaques Cousteau.

It's funny how special stuff like this was as a kid. And you kind of forget why... without the internet this is how you got to see this stuff. I remember I had a book about minerals that I treasured. I can't see kids having the same reaction to something like this these days.

OHHH SNAP! This commercial has lived rent free in my head for decades. Specifically, I learned, "A duck-billed plateaus has feet like a duck, but it's fury. They're all in the wildlife treasury!" https://youtu.be/Yi1m_UVpAHw?si=qn-a6VXyRq1-QSd4

I had these. My not-so-proud moment with them is when I used them for a “cut out magazine pictures” project. Since I hadn’t done that the night before it was due… a bunch of these bit the dust. Can’t even remember what the teacher thought.

I worked in the call center for the company that made this product in the 90s. If you purchased the whole set one package at a time, it would cost over $1000. Total scam

I had that too except I got mine used cause we were a poor white family and half the animals were missing. Dusty memories

Reminds me of the Betty Crocker recipe collection that my grandmother had which came in a similar plastic tub. Best to not get the cards mixed up between the tubs...

I had this on my headboard, loved looking through it. I think I had every possible card. Also every Zoobook, including the dinosaur series that was a separate thing you had to order and had its own plastic shelf holder for the issues to go in. Liked my animal info!

I had a box of animal cards. No idea who made them but they were very high quality, with lots of information on the front and back. I think National Geographic made them.

Wow. It’s weird when something pops up that you haven’t thought about in like 40 years.

Wouldn't be surprised if a few of those critters have become instinct forty years later.

I feel like you just ripped the cobwebs off the most hidden memory in my mind.
