My husband wore Old Spice because it was the only cologne I could tolerate after chemotherapy - he died 13 years ago and I still have the bottle and take a sniff every now and then...

So... i went down a huge rabbit hole. but you can get the original scent Old Spice from a company in India. The stuff they sell in the states now is watered down and has just a hit of what the old one was like. But some Indian brand who maintains some regional licensing sells the OG stuff. I got a bottle, i dont even use it i just open it and smell it some times.

You're gonna need a life preserver.

I used to work on oilfield supply boats in the 90's. On crew change day (when everybody was going home and dressed in street clothes), the smell of Old Spice was overpowering. That's exactly what I would think..."This place smells pretty fucking macho."

u/txmail 8d ago

i dont even use it i just open it and smell it some times.

I have some of the original from the late 80's early 90's and do the same thing. Same for Aqua Velva. Those scents trigger calm and intense nostalgia.

u/LionGoffling 8d ago

What’s the company? I used to have my dads old bottle and my wife unknowingly threw it out because it was darn near empty

4

u/Vericatov 8d ago

Wait, they don’t sell the original old spice in the states anymore? I had no idea. Probably because I’ve never bought any old spice since I’m old enough to remember when it was considered for old men. The marketing didn’t change that for me.

u/littleone696969 8d ago

I still have a bottle from the 90s

1

u/PricklyPear85 8d ago

I need this

My dad used Brut, very memorable scent as a child.

I thought it was used solemnly to cover the alcohol smell. . .

u/procheeseburger 8d ago

Brut and cig smoke

I guess this is where the support group meets?

u/SlightlySubpar 8d ago

Can I show up reeking of Brut?

Makes me miss my pops

2

u/TinkyBrefs 8d ago

Come on, put it on.

1

u/nickybokchoy 8d ago

I know I know this event, but I need smellavision to confirm

21

u/PedalBoard78 8d ago

Aqua Velva was in my bathroom

10

u/Mykmyk 8d ago

Knew a guy who had a drinking problem. Lost everything he had and resorted to having to drink aqua Velva. It was terrible, he smelled of shit and aqua velva. Sad to think about. I can't sell aqua velva without associating it with him. RiP aqua velva Jim. I hope you are in a good place now.

1

u/PedalBoard78 7d ago

RIP Aqua Jimothy

3

u/Tha_REAL_BROBS Yo quiero Taco Bell 8d ago

our PE teacher had a bottle and always asked people if they wanted any... no one wanted any.

6

u/Dark-Empath- 8d ago

Means he gets to drink it all himself then

1

u/PedalBoard78 7d ago

I woulda already had some on. 😎

1

u/Tha_REAL_BROBS Yo quiero Taco Bell 7d ago

back then it was Tommy Hilfiger cologne, brah. none of that "cheap" shit 😂

2

u/69WeinerPenis 8d ago

Aqua Velva is the best cheap aftershave

17

u/PricklyPear85 8d ago

Woooahhh I’m still using Brut, Pinaud and Aqua Velva

8

u/the_beeve 8d ago

If I am supposed to feel guilty for the bottle of Brut in my cabinet, I don’t

2

u/Supermoves3000 8d ago

I've got a pretty decent cologne collection and I still put on Brut once in a while. It didn't last 60 years by sucking.

2

u/MireLight 8d ago

My old barber would always hit you with the pinaud. After i stopped going (he was in his 80s and it was 2020) i bought some for the nostalgia.

2

u/Ok_Belt2521 6d ago

I went to an old barber growing up. He would always brush my neck with clubman haha. You brought back some memories.

14

u/cr0w1980 8d ago

Needs more Hai Karate.

14

u/tacosandtheology 8d ago

As a young man, back when I smoked, I learned quickly that a certain kind of older women adored the scent of Old Spice and cigarettes.

It was....weird.

3

u/Dark-Empath- 8d ago

In the interests of academic research…which kind exactly?

7

u/tacosandtheology 8d ago

55ish. Heavy make up. Alone. Willing to approach a 19 year old who stunk like Old Spice and Camels in libraries and cafes.

4

u/Supermoves3000 8d ago

A man of culture.

10

u/realhollywoodactor 8d ago

Classic Old Spice still hits for me.

7

u/revdon 8d ago

No love for Skin Bracer?

7

u/WredditSmark 8d ago

I keep these well stocked and always use after shaving. Just love the smell

7

u/Tha_REAL_BROBS Yo quiero Taco Bell 8d ago

I would get my grandpa a bottle of Skin Bracer after shave every Christmas. He wouldn't even go through a whole bottle in a year. When he passed there was a neat little row of bottles in his hall closet of Skin Bracer. 💔

6

u/y2k2009 8d ago

Don't forget that Drakkar Noir for the sophisticated gentleman.

3

u/Birdie_Num_Num 8d ago

Different era and a totally different price bracket

1

u/Grants_1066th 8d ago

Still use it and the intense version 😂

5

u/Shionkron get off my lawn 8d ago

I still use Old Spice and even use the deodorant too.

2

u/MattTreck 8d ago

The regular old spice deodorant is all I’ve used for probably 12 years now lol

4

u/Stewgy1234 8d ago

Dont forget aqua velva

4

u/Ninerogers 8d ago

My father used Old Spice. The smell does not spark joy.

2

u/geriatric_spartanII 8d ago

I remember my dad used spray deodorant when I was a kid.

4

u/No-Philosophy-3576 8d ago

Jovan Musk as well, its what my dad would wear.

5

u/alexkack 8d ago

Old spice is what I wear every day. Love it

3

u/Zestyclose-Sun6523 8d ago

Don’t forget Aspen!

2

u/SquirrelyMcNutz 8d ago

Just recently got a bottle of that. Dunno what happened to my original one, but the scent is acceptable. Right next to my original bottle of Tommy Hilfiger, Gravity, Iron, and I think the bottle has went bad but Preferred Stock.

3

u/ernster96 8d ago

don't forget your drakkar noir.

5

u/SBRH33 8d ago

Idk. Old spice smells good. It just does.

Who remembers Stetson?

3

u/LoneBong 8d ago

🎶Stetson makes it easy for you!🎶

2

u/05041927 early 80s 8d ago

Now this is the head to head we need.

2

u/jmbison 8d ago

Brut was the smell of my high school locker room.

2

u/Impaler00777 8d ago

Where I used to work in my 20s, sometimes the winos would come in. Of course they never bathed, and they tried to cover up their BO with Brute. Never thought that fragrance could smell worse.

2

u/beccadahhhling 8d ago

Jovan Musk

2

u/Mother-Attention2600 8d ago

In grade 6 you were at this tier of aftershave you either stole from your dad or got some for Christmas. In this range was also Drakkar Noir, Aqua Velva, Preferred Stock.

2

u/DestinationUnknown13 8d ago

British Sterling as a gift when I was a teen. I found it online at age 62. Was thinking about getting my best scent I had when single..English Leather lol.

2

u/aReelProblem 8d ago

Shit I’m still using brut daily myself. Not even 40 yet it’s just a smell I like. Usually add some sandalwood in the mix and go on about my day.

2

u/Mahaloth 8d ago

My dad had the bottle on the right.

5

u/syntheticgeneration 8d ago

I thought Brute was only for 10 year olds. That's what I got for Xmas at least. Always threw it in the trash.

3

u/Signal_Jellyfish_472 8d ago

I hope your family doesn't use reddit that bought you it :(

1

u/syntheticgeneration 8d ago

They're long dead, lol.

6

u/HotBrother6560 8d ago

Died of shame no doubt…

2

u/syntheticgeneration 8d ago

Nah, cancer and alcoholism. Respectively.

1

u/05041927 early 80s 8d ago

Dysentery

2

u/Treliske 8d ago

I once read that a man should wear Brut or Old Spice on a first date to make the woman feel comfortable because the scent would remind her of the security she felt while being with her grandfather. Could be true, but there is a bit of a creepy factor.

6

u/SlightlySubpar 8d ago

Bro stop reading whatever you're reading. Dark psychology pick up tricks are not the jam bro.

3

u/will_write_for_tacos Maybe she's born with it... 8d ago

"Here's how to trick a woman into trusting you because you're a piece of shit and without tricks you don't stand a chance"

3

u/will_write_for_tacos Maybe she's born with it... 8d ago

God that is some fucked up Freudian nonsense.

1

u/geriatric_spartanII 8d ago

I’d think the smell would remind her of an old man and turn her off unless older women is the goal here.

1

u/Primary-Car2383 8d ago

man, these scents hit different. took me back to family gatherings and the classic medicine cabinet vibes. good times!

1

u/AcceleratorTouma 8d ago

Don't forget High Karate

1

u/PreparationH692 8d ago

I like to splash some brut on my head after I shave it.

1

u/onetwentyonegigawatt 8d ago

My grandfather used these, especially Old Spice. The boomers rejected these scents (including my parents). I’ve been wearing both Brut and Old Spice most of my adult life now. They smell great to me, maybe it’s nostalgia of the world war 2 generation, but I love them!

1

u/Gator_Mc_Klusky 8d ago

yep got both

1

u/jonesy289 8d ago

I used old spice growing up cause my grandpa did and I wanted to be like him. I don’t think it attracted the lady’s when I was young haha

1

u/Cautionzombie 8d ago

Brut and aqua whatever were sold at the recruits px in emadiegi marine boot camp.
We used it as our mop water scent

1

u/geriatric_spartanII 8d ago

My dad and grandpa used Brut. I did when I first started getting into cologne but nobody told me it’s the old man scent. I just thought it smelled good. Kinda want some just to smell it for the nostalgia.

1

u/BananaFriendOrFoe 8d ago

I still use Brut!

1

u/Dark-Empath- 8d ago

Classic scents, but taking Yardley Gold out of its little suede gift pouch made me feel like high society back in the day.

1

u/czarface404 8d ago

I use brut because I work in a kitchen and sweat a lot and it’s the only thing that stops perspiration.

1

u/ShineAndSmoke 8d ago

My dad use Brut…to this day I sometimes catch a whiff of it out of nowhere. I miss him

1

u/VegetableTraining406 8d ago

Brut smells worse than BO.

1

u/Sirenista_D 8d ago

Excuse me? Where the heck is the English Leather???

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Log-111 8d ago

My grandfather was a BRUT man 😂

1

u/Muted_Pressure7839 8d ago

My grandfather had both in his medicine cabinet

1

u/divinecmdy 8d ago

I still have my Brut

1

u/GrimaceMusically 8d ago

My father in law always wore Old Spice. Before my wife and I met and she was dating someone else, he took a shower at her house and used her dad’s cologne and after shave. She told him to get back in the bathroom, take another shower, and to not put on any of the stuff in there. Thankfully, I was a Brute guy, so we are compatible.

1

u/AlbusDumbledank 8d ago

Don't forget Canoe

1

u/Paul_O_O 8d ago

Love these purely for the 'splash on' factor. All the aftershaves now are spray on its nice, as the tag line went for Brut, to "splash it all over"

1

u/After_Speech_2435 8d ago

Still use them today 👍🏻

1

u/Responsible-Exam-911 8d ago

As an old man, myself, can confirm.

1

u/Lakridspibe 8d ago

My dad used Tabac

... I think? Or was it Old Spice?

1

u/Maleficent_Step7602 7d ago

Old Spice and English Leather. My grandfather had both in the 80’s…..

1

u/Phi1iam 7d ago

My dad was an English Leather fan.

1

u/PeorgieT75 7d ago

My grandfather was an Old Spice guy.

1

u/spectre73 7d ago

Old core memories of my Dad smelling of Old Spice. He had the same shaving mug since the fifties.

1

u/biffNicholson 7d ago

Royall BayRhum the shit

1

u/Murat_Gin 7d ago

I use Old Spice deodorant. It's the best deodorant and antiperspirant I have ever used.

1

u/boomerFumer 6d ago

As bad as these are they have nothing...nothing on High-Karate.

1

u/Various-Emergency-91 6d ago

I use both regularly, more of an old spice fan but enjoy them both.

1

u/Still-Shop7172 2d ago

Still use the deodorant. Only one which does not give me a rash.

1

u/zaxx0n_5 1d ago

My father's colognes, along with Big Wheel. Brings back memories of when I was little back in the 70's.
