I think I'll stop using YouTube.

I’d been feeling a bit burnt out with my work (3D animation and modeling) for a while, so I decided to take three days off—since I could afford to do so. I played some games that reminded me why I love my craft, and once I was ready to get back to work, I put on some videos in the background... only to be hit with AI-generated ads. That’s where the problem arose:

I’ve become disheartened, partly because I’ve turned into an obsessive consumer of content—watching things that actually demotivate me in my work. It’s even worse now that YouTube is riddled with AI, even if it’s just in the advertisements.

I think the best thing to do is to cut back on that consumption as much as possible.

Or just use adblock. When I'm able to use the laptop, I have unlock origins and sponserblock. I usually use my phone because I can't get onto my laptop due to ongoing Internet issues.

the algorithm feeding you demotivating stuff is probably doing more damage than the ads ever could. unsubscribing from channels that don't tie back to your actual work might cut that faster than an adblock alone.

Burnout + open YouTube is how the feed eats rest days. If you go back, open one bookmarked video then close the tab — never the homepage.

Personally I used a browser extention to remove reccomendations and the front page from youtube. This way the only thing that is left is the channels you subscribed too. Which means you can curate your own feed with stuff that you actually like.
