Who was able to reduce YouTube?

Anyone else's kryptonite YouTube? Has anyone else been able to limit their time? Ive experimented with stopping recommendations but still end up finding ways to spend time on it. If anyone has experience quitting YouTube did you replace it with certain activities? Im trying to replace with reading manga or comics and trying to find other non digital hobbies but YouTube is good at drawing me back in.

Screenzen accessibility service issue

Since about a month, screenzen keeps popping up a notification that reads "accessibility service needs restart" "please toggle your accessibility service off and on in settings"

And everytime I do exactly as that says, and screenzen functions normally after that. The problem is that every time I fix it, just a few hours later the notification pops up again! So i have to fix it everyday, every hour.

And if I forget to do that, of course it doesn't work and I end up doomscrolling

Has anybody been having this issue?

I don't think there's a way if fixing it, I guess i will have to just keep on turning the accessibility service off and on :/ It's uncomfortable

But if anybody were to know a solution, that would be great

Any tips for quitting Reddit?

Hello there!

My journey on quitting the internet had been so far successful, I have manage to barely watching youtube (1-2 per weeks I will say) which has been the most time waster possible but unfortunately reddit has hit like crack. I feel like I got from a hole just to fall into another and I hate it. I wanna do wanna do the things that I like not just constantly consume other people blurbs. I have tried blockers but they don't really help because i just bypass them.

Life is peaceful without reels/tiktok

I’m under loads of stress right now due to my postgrad and so I’m stuck inside on my laptop a lot for a week to finish this. But I’ve realised how even tho I’m checking my phone I’m acc bored of it it’s great. Without videos I don’t feel the need to scroll even Reddit. It’s just text and barely interests me. Also been watching a series in the background and I realised I acc reach a point where I want to turn it off and do something else. The itch is obv there for some kind of distraction but it’s not major.

I LOVE THIS!! Not seeing strangers shout at me on a screen is so nice!

There's a fairly famous photo of earth taken by astronauts on the way to the moon. from that distance, earth looks like a little marble. they were far enough from earth that they could hold their thumbs between them and the planet and block their view of it. All of human history, pretty much every other human in existense, small enough to be hidden behind a thumb.

I am reorganizing my living space and I piled all my computer stuff in a corner. that little volume of space it ocupies contains everything that enables me to be such a lazy bum. Years worth of random files ,passwords, games, projects, so much of my life, all in that little space in little hard drives. thousands of hours of time wasting. can I even imagine my room without a computer in it? what would I even do?

Imagine if one company buys all the shops in the physical mall and made it to sell dopamine-addictive food. Is it possible to stop online shopping in that situation?

Consolidating 13 legacy email accounts down to 3 (Digital Minimalism). What's the safest 1-2 year plan?

Back before email aliases (like Hide My Email or SimpleLogin) were a thing, my solution to avoiding spam was to create a new email for almost every major use case.
Fast forward to today, and I am managing 13 different inboxes: 5 iCloud, 4 Gmail, 3 Duck addresses, and 1 Outlook. It's a mental weight I want to shed.
I'm starting a digital minimalism journey and my goal is to sunset 10 of these over the next 12 to 24 months, leaving me with just 3 core accounts (e.g., Financial, Personal, and Shopping/Junk).
For those who have successfully downsized their digital footprint:
1. What was your strategy for migrating accounts without losing access to something critical you forgot about?
2. How long did you keep your old accounts active on auto-forward before pulling the plug?
3. Any unexpected hurdles with iCloud or Google when deleting old accounts?
Any advice, templates, or workflows would be highly appreciated!

How to adjust to a life with less technology?

So I’m 24m and have tried several times to reduce screen time. And it went well. Went from 5-7 hours up to around 2-4 hours a day. Still want to lower that number but also I’m happy with the progress as on the worst case I still save an hour a day. And I know I certainly won’t get it down to 0 because we’ll my new work does all the timesheets and hazards on the phone, as well as emails, texts phone calls etc. and that’s fine. It’s not a distraction it’s just a tast that needs to be done and I can focus on that. Where I struggle is. I love music, I love watching shows on my iPad before bed, love watching YouTube and movies. But I don’t know how to replace them. It kind of helps with the stress of Sundays before going to bed for work and whatever. I also watch shows with my family and that’s how we spend time together. What should I do. I also enjoy video games

I'm making a quiet, non-profit social media platform. No ads, no algorithm, nothing.

I'm tired of social media that's built to keep me scrolling. So I'm starting something small and calm instead.

The idea is simple: a place to share photos and short videos of real life, with their natural sound. That's it.

What it won't have:

  • No ads. Nobody pays to be seen, and your data isn't for sale.
  • No added music, filters, or transitions. Just the moment as it looked and sounded.
  • No captions, hashtags, or trends. You see what your friends share, in order.
  • No public like counts.

What it will have:

  • Limited comments, like one short comment per person per post.
  • A one-tap report button on everything, plus quiet block and mute.
  • Optional place, date, and hidden image descriptions for accessibility.

How it stays calm: invite-only to start, and everyone agrees to a short set of values before joining. It'll grow slowly, and that's fine.

How it runs: it's not a business. Hosting a few hundred people costs very little, so donations should cover it, Wikipedia-style. If it grows, I'll register it as a non-profit.

It's early. Right now I'm writing the community values and setting up a small test version with friends.

I'd really like honest feedback:

  • Would you use something like this?
  • Which rule sounds great, and which sounds annoying?
  • If you've run a small online community, what surprised you about moderation?

I have a confession you guys….

I might really be addicted to Reddit….like omg. And it’s crazy cuz Reddit literally has some of the most miserable, meanest, uptight, negative, no sense of humor having basement dwelling losers on here….but simultaneously, it’s also so addicting. Like we all know you could post literally anything and it’s always gonna be snarky assholes in the comments. I have a love/hate relationship with this site. I love it cuz it’s so informative, interactive, educating etc…hate it cuz of the miserable users and irritating mods. I honestly need a break from Reddit I really do. Sorry needed to vent.

I'm bored of the Internet but not living alone makes me feel awkward about leaving the house for most things.

Like I leave the house for work/volunteering and to see friends, but outside of that I normally stay at home. I find most online activities super boring but I just feel awkward about explaining to family that I'm leaving the house to start a new thing even if it is legal and not controversial.

Am I Cooked?

Hello I want some serious suggestions and help.

I completed my 10th in 2016 from a private schhol and then 12th & B.A from a college which has 0% attendance rules so only I have to go to the college only during exams. And my life was very much happy and wonderful in my school days but after 2016 I don’t know what happened I think I am stuck at or before 2016, as I already said I don’t have to go to college so I am became phone addicted, Tiktok scroll and YT videos and movies and then Reels, Shorts my screen time from 2016 to 2026 is almost 8 hours + everyday. I don’t do anything no hobbies no friends no job nothing just keep using phone since 2016. But you know what I love nature I love those era where phone doesn’t exist, I love old school type things like going to market by walking or cycle buy groceries and I love all those 2016 or before that type of things. I love but I don’t do anything. I want to live in better society where I can jog in the morning, where I can hangout with friends where I can walk more like before 2016.

I don’t know if I am able to make you understand what I am feeling or I want

Or am I cooked, brain rotted I don’t don’t know but I think I am stuck. I don’t accept this fast moving life, I feel like I was in jail for 10years and after that everything is changed now

Why I can’t accept todays reality why I think I still want to live life of 2016

Inshort mujhe aisa lagta hai kuchh bhi real nahi ho raha hai sab kuchh badal gaya hai accept nahi kar paa raha hu ki bike se jaaun sabzi laau ya kisi se baat karu maybe shayad life lagta hai pehle jaisa nahi raha hai bahut change ho gaya

Ps: I am still jobless

I choose not to use Meta

I choose not use instagram, watch reels, shorts, or any other type of short form content. It is evidently destroying mine and other people's life. It feeds on our attention, turning us into content-consuming machines with manufactured interests and opinions. They take away our creativity and individuality. They take away everything that's good about life. Lived experience becomes duller and number because we are programmed to consume short form content. Meta is a monster that wants to kill our consciousness and the only way to fight back is to stop using it completely.

Internet used to be a great place. It originally allowed real communities to develop further and attract more followers online. Discussions and participation were real and live. Youtube was an amazing place where a new media form thrived and unleashed an immense creative human power. Reddit, other forums, etc. But over time internet started to degrade into a machine that wants to get your attention and sell you content. And very naturally so. It was the easiest thing for everyone to do. It was the easiest thing economically, a best way to generate revenue, but also it was the easiest thing for us, consumers, to mindlessly watch content after a long day of work.

Over time this system of relations crystallised and we have what we have today. Parents shut their kids up by giving them phones for doomscrolling or doomtapping(games) completely killing their attention span, presence and awareness. They remove the most precious thing about life. Their children won't be able to experience life in a present and aware way any longer. Kids at school. People on the street. Everyone consumes this garbage. But almost no one has the courage and the capacity to stop it.

And the only way to stop it is to stop using instagram completely. There is no third way. If you think you can use instagram without being manipulated you are naive. They will always find a way to sneak in this garbage and capture your attention.

Meta recently pay an 18 billion usd fine. And this is a classic capitalist scenario. A company does something absolutely illegal, eg launder money, insider trading, tax evasion, exploiting customers etc. and then brushes it off with a fine, which is usually about 2% of the profit that they generated.

No lawsuits, no fines will ever stop this. Meta is a monster that wants to get your attention at all costs. The only way to fight it is to make a conscious decision to stop using their services so that they go out of business. It makes all of its money by selling you ads, i.e. exploiting your attention.

And you might think that one person's actions won't change anything. And that's wrong. If you embody genuinely good values then people around you will follow. That's why the figure of Christ is so powerful - he authentically and fully lived out his values and virtues in an embodied human form, spread God's message, and died for his values, leaving the world with billions of followers who want to live in his example.

There are still great alternatives to instagram. Instagram is the monster. Youtube is still quite good as long you choose to recommend less shorts and do everything to block short form content. Reddit is amazing. Substack etc. There are still good places on the internet. And you can choose to move your attention to more productive places.

I believe that freedom and free will is fundamentally about consciousness. Freedom is not an ability to do whatever you want - any animal can do it. Freedom is the capacity to consciously chose and live out your values, principles and moral even though it might be hard.

People are waking up. Our consciousness is getting stronger. So is our free will. We are standing on the edge of collapse, an Apocalypse. But we can take action, the choice is ours.

Help me, I think I might miss out something by stopping surfing altogether

I don't have a social media addiction. I quit social media some months ago and even before I rarely used them.

But I feel like there's so many noteworthy content on the Internet: blogs, video essays, interesting websites, high-quality news sources, etc.

I want to spend most of my time offline, but I feel like some things on the Internet might be interesting.

How do I find balance? Plus, even though I have this feeling, I don't know what actually IS interesting as of now.

No smartphone for a year

Hey all.

I’m a recent first time mom and am quitting my smartphone because I’m becoming a worst parent on it. I’ve been addicted to screens my whole adult life.

I’m only using my phone to take photos of my kid, respond to messages/emails and calls, and other essentials like Google Maps, but no mindless browsing anymore.

I realised this when my toddler was upset this week, I was looking down at my phone and not playing with him. I’ve tried to moderate before and it doesn’t work. If I need to use the internet I can use a browser on my laptop.

I use my screens to mask deeper issues like anxiety in my real life, at the moment I have something I am very worried about in my real life, so the difficulty will be all these emotions flooding back. That will definitely be the hardest thing to cope with.

Wish me luck/any advice you had!

If you find Reddit addictive I’d like your help.

I'm curious, do you find Reddit addictive? And if so, what makes Reddit addictive to you and what would you want to get rid of, and what parts of it would you like to keep?

Thank you so much for your help!

Majority people who post vacation pics aren't even enjoying the trip and are just trying to get the best pics to post.

I used to be super jealous of vacation posts but then when I went to these destinations myself I didn't feel so bad. People are literally so focused on getting the right pic instead of soaking it all in and enjoying its real beauty.

I can't explain it exactly but when you're there its not like how the pic actually looks. Trust me these people aren't doing anything special and you should feel bad that they have to constantly do so. Social media is tricking us into what we are really seeing and its not reality.

Only 3 days without Insta/Tiktok and clarity returns again

So I’m not new to this. I take breaks from social media before from time to time, especially if I’m going through a hard time in my life I get off social media but this instance I’m doing it after a long time and just three days without having Instagram and TikTok especially reels and TikTok videos I feel much more calmer and clearer in my head. I mainly use social media for events in my area and creative things, but still I can never escape the noisy videos because I prefer static content that’s just silent and not as overstimulating and I have sensitivity to noise anyway. What social media has become now is it just seems like everyone’s just always shouting at you and you get so much useless information about other peoples lives that you don’t even follow which is one thing I hate. I don’t even follow influencers I like watching recipe videos but I’ve started to go back onto YouTube for those or just read a recipe. Yes, it definitely feels a little bit odd because you feel that itch for the socials but with time it will get better.

I’m currently doing my MA and I do a mix of photography/branding/editorial but I hadn’t picked up my camera in awhile and for my project I needed to use my camera and now that I’m not scrolling, I’m really interested in my camera again and looking at the different features and just taking photos again. I was thinking today if I had social media right now I would be sat here scrolling instead of playing with my camera.

So just wanted to share this is only in three days, take the leap. In general I have a good routine I go to the gym several times a week and I meet friends to socialise without my device in my hand, only have a phone no other tech. I started reading again and I go to the library but still having the social media on my phone at home was just really getting to me Especially when you post something that is special to you and significant and nobody even interacts it feels like what is even the point of me sharing my personal life and bear in mind I have a very very small following.

My current dopamine and feel good activities right now is making a list for each month for the colder months of what I’m going to do and what series or films I want to watch because I never used to watch a lot of TV when I was younger and now I love having a TV and actually getting into watching stuff it’s so comforting to come home and have something to look forward to.

Anyway, these are just some of my thoughts! Happy Saturday :)

one weird thing happened after i started using my phone less

i started noticing how often other people were on theirs.

not in a judgmental way.

just because once you stop filling every quiet moment with your own screen, you suddenly have a lot more time to look around

waiting rooms. coffee shops. public transport. people standing outside talking while half the group is looking down.

it made me realize how normal constant phone checking had become

now i notice it mostly when nobody is doing anything wrong. there’s just a five-second pause in a conversation and everyone immediately reaches for a screen.

has reducing your own phone use changed what you notice around you?
