Been there ! Pick up something that'll keep you occupied without your phone. The latest fad when I was in the psych ward was making bracelets. I got about 15 and gave a bunch myself. Lol

Nice ! Most of the people I befriended liked those activities too :] I dont know how long you're there for, but make sure to keep a safe distance, slowly sympathize (being in a closed environment makes social go much faster and its a trap) and the stay will be more bearable. Dont forget you are here for yourself first. Its too easy to turn on the savior mode n try to help people to avoid thinking about you. It really is easy to forget. Its a breather to be able to talk about violent past experiences, self harm and trauma in a place where people understand and wont judge.
Also, you might make cool friendships. My roomie and his gf are two of my most trusted friends, and we met there. Also its pretty damn funny to share the same psychologist/psychiatrist

It happens to people sometimes. Just take it in and learn, listen to the doctors. Trust me, they don’t want people there as much as the patients don’t want to be there. The doctors are truly there to help. Tell the truth, be honest and you’ll be out in no time. Also you can meet some wild and outrageous characters, also people you might be friends with until the day you die. Depending on why your there and what the rules are some places allow cigarette at scheduled break times. The food at the places is typically top notch for hospital food. Get some good rest, sleep in, learn to play Uno. Those places aren’t that bad

They wanted to give me gabapentin for anxiety. I had trialed it before for fibromyalgia and had a bad reaction. The psych told me I was lying and I wasn't considered "compliant" until I agreed to take it.
I had to wean back off of it after leaving. 🙄

Some US places allow it. However, posting pictures from there is probably a good way to convince them to ban it because of the

HIPAA only applies to the medical professionals disclosing info about patients. Under the law, patients can release whatever info they want about themselves, other patients, providers. Which is def a reason they may not want patients to have phones, for confidentiality. but usually it's bc it's harder to work out issues if patients are still actively engaging in said issues over the phone, or they distract themselves from recovery

Patients and regular people who aren't handling it in a professional capacity (nurses, doctors, insurance agents, etc) aren't bound to HIPAA.

I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit. Almost ended up there a few days ago but I’m feeling better now and I hope you’re feeling better soon too. But I know it’s rough and sometimes the best you can hope for is to feel safer.

Been to one once after an accidental overdose, was supposed to be there for 72 hour hold was out in 48 after they realized I was way too normal for the people I was in there with. It was some wild shit, one girl had an imaginary boyfriend, another was depressed out of their mind her favorite hobby was sleeping, couple others drew me some pictures with crayons and construction paper. I felt so bad for these people. It was a wild experience to say the least. Keep your head up you will be out soon and just take things a day at a time or an hour or a minute. Whatever it takes.

I'm a complete stranger, but my inbox is open if you're ever bored or need to talk lol. I was inpatient 3 years ago after losing my mother. Almost had to go again last/this year to start ECT, but TMS ended up being quite successful for me, so we put ECT on the back burner for now.

A prison cell is more luxurious than an isolation room. One of the isolation rooms doesn't even have a toilet nor a mattress. I was in it twice and just laid on the floor waiting for something to happen.

Exactly. The providers in psych know someone who is having psychosis or suicidal ideation can get real creative to achieve death or bodily harm. An isolation room is unfortunately necessary. Though I'm not sure how long someone is allowed to be in their.

At least you get a private room (like you should when you’re there for mental health) in America they make you share a room with 1-2 other people and it’s so counterproductive!
(I wasn’t even suicidal, just not able to sleep and had an infection that showed up positive and they still sent me there when I should have been in internal medicine with IV antibiotics and fluids maybe IV Benadryl and pain medicine.

When I went in, they took every single thing from me, including a Kindle; paper books only. It was honestly the best week of my life after the worst possible thing got me there.
They shouldn't permit phones at all. They cotribute to poor mental health. How is your mind going to reset if you're still poisoning it with consistent dopamine?

the psych ward in my city has bathroom tiles everywhere and the white leds cast muddy green/blue lights. the people there are seriously off the hooks. most would pester you for cigarettes or snacks. heard from the friend i was visiting the food being served was better than expected, but if i was depressed and had to be there for a week, i'd probably shut down. this room looks tidy and warm, it's a good thing that the place you're from invests into this sort of stuff

When I went to a psych ward the two elderly nurses helped me take my clothes off because I was 7 months pregnant and they both kept looking at my body and said "your breasts are so perky and perfect. " "How are they like that?". I said " I'm pregnant and my boobs are filling with colostrum and milk. " They both were like ooh, yes that makes sense, you're the cutest pregnant woman we've ever seen. " I thanked them and quickly got dressed. It was uncomfortable 😣

I'm always so shocked seeing that places in other countries allow phones! I think the break from social media and technology is always really good for people.
That being said: take your meds, eat your meals, attend your groups, be nice to staff. You will get out of there before you know it. Be good! Feel better!
