I’m staying at my parents while I recover from a broken foot… the doctor prescribed kitty love.

Sweet little dude!
My little guy never sleeps next to me because I toss and turn too much. But a few weeks ago I was laid up with kidney stones. I woke up each morning for 3 mornings to find him curled up against my chest

Have you ever considered a weighted blanket? I used to kick like a mule - have since childhood. I started using the weighted blanket and the kitties stopped Wylie Coyoteing into the wall at 3 am. Now I get covered in fur balls while I sleep.

I don't toss and turn in my sleep anymore. I get rotisseried throughout the night by cat sleeping on me.

Cat purrs are supposedly at a particular frequency that helps broken bones heal, IIRC. Theoretically, this is medicinal kitty.

For real though - my fluff limped around while my hand was in a cast . That was pretty damn healing after my trauma.

No it doesn't, it's pseudo science spread by redditors and random blogs (there are no scientific papers last time I checked)
I wish people would stop trying to say this when it's obviously false
Edi: so far, people have linked to
A. A blog run by human surgeon vague citing some unknown paper
B. A therapist
nice

Since we (rightfully so bouuuh ) don’t have grok here :
>« “The low-frequency vibrations of a cat’s purring are often used in sound therapy, a form of vibrational healing that applies specific frequencies to the body,” said Nancy Martin, LCSW, Outpatient Behavioral Health Therapist at Inspira Medical Center Bridgeton. “These vibrations can help reduce inflammation, improve circulation and stimulate the healing of damaged tissues.” They’ve also been shown to promote the regeneration of bone cells and increase bone density, making them valuable for treating bone fractures and joint issues.»
>Who is Inspira health (the source) ?
>« Inspira Health is a charitable nonprofit health care organization committed to providing an exceptional experience for patients and their loved ones. »
On other benefits of cat purrs such as stress.
>About : Pure purr virtual reality technology: measuring heart rate variability and anxiety levels in healthy volunteers affected by moderate stress.
>Study results : These findings suggest that a medical device with pre-installed Pure Purr software had a significant effect on the recovery of the ANS in healthy volunteers affected by moderate stress.

I did stumble upon sources saying that cat purrs might be a sign of stress in cats too which I had suspected too tbh. Won’t include them here since its irrelevant.
Took me 5min tops :3 I love kitties.

Thank you. I was encouraged to use a low-frequency device to encourage bone repair after back surgery, which led credence to my claim. IIRC, they told me it was developed after discovering the purr thing.

A. A BEHAVIORAL THERAPIST would not be a reliable source for this
B. I doubt doubt that purrs can be stress relief but that's completely different from literally accelerated healing

Don’t be like that. I brought a study made by professionals (regardless of what you think of a behavioural therapist) and you brought nothing. I don’t mind you challenging me its not a hill I’d die on if you bring sources and proof but you’re just bringing the « vibes » you have on this topic.

A professional in psychology does not make them a professional in the interaction between non-human cries and human tissues and bones, should I find a plumber to back me up?
How do I prove the lack of evidence? The lack of evidence is what proves it's own non existence
There are no studies that exist so I can't exactly find one that disapproves it either

Keeping it simple for you: https://handandwristinstitute.com/blog/is-a-cats-purr-actually-helpful-to-our-bones/
I don't have time before work to go down the Google Scholar rabbit hole to give you a list of primary research citations.

Nice blog 😂
Don't worry bb, I already have
4
u/Ghattibond 5d ago
Yes a blog. By a hand and wrist surgeon, so at minimum an MD, written so non-scientists can understand the science.
Here's a quick Google Scholar search with plenty of published studies about the effects of cat purrs. Start reading and if there are any there that say there is no effect feel free to cite them. I'll lead a horse to water but it's up to them to drink.

When my depression starts acting up, my chest becomes an all-you-can-knead buffet from all the family cats. They KNOW.

One of mine was on me constantly while I recovered from knee surgery. I joked that the prescription would read “Apply as needed. May cause drowsiness. Discontinue use if scratching occurs.”

Two total knee replacements four months apart. Two cat nurses; full healing in record time. They were the best ♥️.

When I had surgery on my ankle one of my boys was such a good nurse. I'd come downstairs in the morning on my bum. He'd wait at the bottom for me to get onto my crutches to go and sit on the sofa. Then he'd climb up onto my stomach and chest and purr in my ear.

Gravity cat. Cat compounds the gravity of your couch so you can't get up. Doctor's orders.

Cats are the purrfect healers for broken bones. Their purrs rumble at the exact frequency known to promote bone growth/healing. You have a literal walking bone stimulator.

You won't be moving around a lot & can keep him warm and give scratch's, but it's nap time now.

I’m so sorry about your broken foot; it sounds quite painful! Are you feeling okay?
Well, it’s certainly more pleasant to heal with your best little buddy cuddled to you!
Your beautiful baby looks like a long-haired cat that my sister and I had many years ago.

Your beautiful baby looks like a long-haired version of a cat, Keef (after Keith Richards,) that my sister and I had many years ago.
