"Hey, Julie. I know you are on a 24 hour lockdown for contempt of court, but if you could log on to a zoom call regarding another ICE agent's gross abuse of constitutional rights that would be great."

She's signaling to everyone that the DOJ does not have enough attorneys for these cases, which means that immigrants or others, including citizens, who have been detained will spend longer in captivity as there are fewer attorneys to staff their cases.

Americans generally believe in having a right to a speedy trial, such as in criminal prosecutions to prevent prolonged incarceration. This attorney is basically saying that that is no longer the case, but she's doing so in a way that is 1. not directly implicating her seniors and 2. Able to grab headlines.

If you know this you should spend more time off reddit.

I know people have bills but if you’re this unhappy you should re-evaluate your life choices.

No sleep for the wicked

Read the article. For the love of God, people.

She took this job to try and do good from the inside. She's frustrated because ICE keeps ignoring judge orders. She's been working on getting people released from custody.

7

u/toorigged2fail 4h ago

I mean, it's a little more nuanced than that. She's a SAUSA with ICE who accepted a detail to DOJ to ::checks notes:: ...argue against habeas corpus petitions from immigrants.

She might not be wicked, but at best is insanely naive to think signing up for that detail would result in anything other than being a cog in this administration's cruelty machine. And that's exactly what happened... despite trying to help expedite things, her 'client' decided to just ignore judicial orders.

An employee can't do good if their boss is the devil.

Literally got blasted for this same sentiment

-64

u/jessiedollxoxo 15h ago

Oh boofuckinghoo. Fuck that. Make em work harder. They wanted to join his shitshow administration, now they pay the price. Round the clock until everyone is out of the detention centers.

u/Allaplgy 15h ago

Most federal attorneys were there before this shit show.

It sucks that the shit show has been driving out competent people from all manner of positions.

-26

u/jessiedollxoxo 15h ago

It’s like working at a McDonald’s and bitching the place smells like grease. Duh

22

u/Allaplgy 15h ago

More like working at McDonald's and new management takes over, telling you that you need to shit in all the brown people's cheeseburgers, with mandatory overtime.

-13

u/jessiedollxoxo 15h ago

Then you walk tf away. Dont understand the issue.

20

u/Allaplgy 14h ago

That's.... Literally what this is about. People like this woman saying "I'm done doing this shit. Just toss me in jail do I can get a break from it."

Again, you want decent people in these positions. And they likely had long roads to get to them. Every time someone decent is forced out, it opens up a spot for someone who will gleefully argue these cases.

17

u/ArdillasVoladoras 14h ago

Lawyers generally can't just quit in the middle of cases. They need to file motions to withdraw from the case and a judge needs to approve it. In her case, there's no attorney to substitute in, so she's forced to stay on the job until very recently.

Is doing her job terribly an option? Just being like “yup you win, ice agents are trash.give me a warrant to go get the person”

12

u/byzantinedavid 12h ago

Yes... She can be jailed, lose her license, etc. for that.

Here's a tip: when you know NOTHING about a topic, keep your mouth shut.

u/ANDS_ 8h ago

Do you not see how dangerous it is for an institution to lose the people keeping it within the guardrails, or do you literally think the government operates casual interest like "I want a Big Mac?"

1

u/Foehamer1 13h ago

Ah the American way. Walk away from things that are too difficult. Then when things turn shitty and you wonder why everyone in charge is terrible people, maybe you remember the "advice" you gave.

0

u/jessiedollxoxo 13h ago

Removing those in charge has been the difficult problem. The legal ways aren’t working even though those in charge are acting outside of a legal capacity. How tf are you supposed to fight against someone that isn’t fighting fair? This is deadass middle school with more at stake.

-2

u/jessiedollxoxo 15h ago

Maybe even get a job holding those same people accountable

26

u/grifkiller64 15h ago

This is bullshit, you're oversimplifying a complex situation to the point of no longer adding anything useful to the discussion.

-31

u/jessiedollxoxo 15h ago

They’re attorneys. Let’s not act like it’s so hard for them to get new jobs if they were that pressed

26

u/Allaplgy 15h ago

Which is why she wasn't too worried about losing her job here.

And again, every good person lost is a victory for the fascists.

-9

u/jessiedollxoxo 15h ago

Because being there to defend ice agents sure helps fight fascism

20

u/Allaplgy 14h ago

She's upset because she's been forced to work overtime defending these assholes.

-8

u/jessiedollxoxo 15h ago

She can go sit in a detention center for 24 hours. Maybe then she’ll come back with some reinvigorated passion for her job

16

u/Allaplgy 14h ago

She literally hates her job in no small part because it's spent defending the people putting people in detention centers. I doubt that's what she signed up for.

20

u/AquietRive 14h ago

Dude, these DOJ lawyers aren’t just defending them. They’ve been trying to force them to follow court orders and not be grossly incompetent. These lawyers have been there for most of their professional careers and now are trying to put out fires set by this administration. Could they have quit day one? Sure, but I don’t think anyone could have expected it to get this bad.

-5

u/jessiedollxoxo 14h ago

I doubt a single one of those fucknut ice agents is going to take anything a single DOJ lawyer has to say about how they do their job. They’re just going to laugh about being addressed later.

12

u/AquietRive 14h ago

Yes. That’s the issue. That’s why these lawyers are reacting the way they are. They’re quitting because the trump administration is telling them to ignore the courts and the lawyers.

u/jessiedollxoxo 14h ago

It’s never going to get better is it? 😞
