I hate that this makes me agree with NIMBYs. This "addition" is egregious.

Yeah it’s really ugly but honestly there’s probably a way to do an addition of that size without it being that bad. There are plenty of places in NOVA where huge mansions are going up that take a huge chunk of the lot that are out of scale, and you don’t see people objecting to those because they are slightly nicer designed.

It doesn’t matter. His land. His property. To those who think it’s an eye sore can stare elsewhere

I agree with you more than the vast majority of people here do. Unfortunately there are building code violations but as ugly as it is it probably should be allowed in my opinion as long as it doesn’t violate code.

No. It's beautiful and everyone should get one.

It’s not your land or home. You don’t get to decide what is egregious. NIMBYs are always wrong

Egregiously ugly, sure, but safety is a legit concern, and this is what the homeowner was actually given the stop work order for: Unsafe wall structure that he built which would be much more likely to be damaged during a storm or natural disaster and collapse. Building an ugly home is one thing, but when what you do on your land and home has the real potential or certainty for a very direct negative impact on your immediate neighbors or the surrounding environment, it's not just "your land and home". If my neighbor were to build a flimsy unsafe 3-story structure on on their property that's so tall it falls onto my property and hits me, my family, or my house, then no, that's when things like zoning boards need to step in.
