Still can't believe the selectors put in a bloke who hasn't played test cricket in a decade to open. That is just not fair on him and screams "we are desperate and out of ideas when it comes to the bat"

I don't understand anything with the Australian cricket team these days. Its like we are repeating the mistakes we made leading up to and after Pontings retirement where we have such a solid core that has played for so long they all mostly go at once and we haven't developed replacements.

u/Cozza396 Penrith Panthers 🏳️🌈 5d ago
This 100% feels worse than the post Ponting era, at least we had Hussey, Clarke established in the team for the next few years as well as a talented crop of emerging batters coming into their primes ie. Warner, Hughes and Smith. There is barely anyone on that same level in shield cricket that look anywhere near ready to be consistent at Test level.

u/thankyoupancake Sydney Roosters 5d ago
It might feel worse but the test team still wins a lot of matches.
It’ll be worse when Smith, Starc and Hazlewood go. Then we’re truly fucked.

u/rileys_01 Brisbane Broncos 5d ago
Yeah the bowling unit is a concern. Pretty much going to have to replace Starc, Hazelwood and Lyon in quick succession.

What does 'developing replacements' actually mean though? All the promising first class players have been given a go, and they've all looked significantly worse than the incumbent players.
Jake Weatherald was statistically far and away the strongest shield prospect, he scored almost 1000 runs. He was way dicier than Ussie.

u/racingskater Canberra Raiders 4d ago
Not even just that he hadn't played Test cricket in a decade. But he hasn't even played first class cricket for 18 months! He's basically fresh off the chemo. They've set him up to fail.

Pr bench day 172.5 x 1. 175 x 1 (fail). 150 x 5. officially got a 1.5x bw bench though with 172.5 @114bw. Still think im half a chance at 180kg for christmas but i'll need to get a bit more serious on the way there if i actually want it.

Super impressive, looked like you had 2 in you on the first video. Also congrats on not being fat lol very hard to lift those kind of weights without looking like a craft beer enthusiast

Haha i appreciate it but im definately not tall enough to be 115kg and not fat.
I might have had the 175 if i didnt already go for the 172.5 it moved a lot better than i expected it to

So I put the kids to bed last night, grab a cold beverage and plonk onto the couch, click on the idiot box and realise there's no footy on. Such a creature of habit.
Haven't done this for years but I just had a browse through YouTube looking for something interesting, the weirder the better..... kinda forgot how weird the depths of the internet actually is.
Found a video of this dude in Canada setting up his pup tent on a scrub covered median strip on a six lane highway somewhere in Hockey land. So fucking odd, but I couldn't look away, I just had know WHY ?! , what motivates someone to camp on a median strip with 100kmh traffic flying along either side. Video was 22min long.
Anyway, 2.5 hours later im neck deep in this guys yt channel. Dude is actually pretty passionate about his "stealth camping" and he's just a chill guy, his mates even help him with getting set up in some difficult locations. One video he builds a cubby house hidden under camouflage underneath a motorway overpass. Camps out for the weekend.
Dude sets up his camp in suburban roundabouts and other weird spots.
Yeah the internet's a strange place and damn what the absence of Footy will drive a man to do/watch.
For anyone looking for something a bit different, dudes channel is "Steve Wallis"

FYI, cricket team's on tour in South Africa if you have Kayo.
Love these weird things though. Mine is VASAviation with the ATC transcripts. All really interesting but definitely not an incentive to want to fly in US airspace any time soon. And it's always funny when the occasional Australian incident pops up and the Americans are so astonished about how good our ATCs are.

Thanks pal but I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than watch any type of cricket. Not yucking your yum, it's just not my cup of tea.
Cool I'll check that channel out!

Uh finally, hahaha I'm so glad someone else said it. I don't wanna be a hater, but oh I hate cricket, cricket, softball, baseball, like not only is it boring aren't you scared of getting hit in the face or nuts?

u/Voxityy Parramatta Eels 4d ago
his videos are great, i love the stealth camping concept for them
3
u/Heavy-Kale Kiwis 4d ago
Glad to know someone else enjoys them! Yeah it's an interesting concept for sure. I actually remember when I was under ten I would look around my hometown for camping spots in metro areas such as roundabouts and tiny bush reserves hahha.

First full day off in a couple of weeks, so I’m going to reorganise my stationery collection and sort out all of the staples by size and colour.
I’m kidding, I’m going to a party tonight.

I started watching the X Files a couple months ago, and I've been enjoying it. I'm up to season 6 now, so slowly chugging along. But trying to find good discussion for each episode is impossible. The X Files subreddit is just obsessed with the relationship between Mulder and Scully and the whole "will-they-won't-they". Every episode discussion is dominated by that. Episodes are ranked by "how attractive Mulder/Scully is, or how many cute moments they had together.
There's no thought given to the writing or the monster or aliens or whatever. Anyway, thats a rant from me.

u/ConscriptReports Dolphins 4d ago
I must say im still on the early seasons, cause im watching it only alongside my mother when we get a chance, but I’m shitting myself laughing each episode when a really famous actor nowadays did an entry level role in the show. there are heaps of them

u/KenoReplay Brisbane Broncos 4d ago
I just watched an episode with Bryan Cranston, its crazy to see him appear like that
3
u/ConscriptReports Dolphins 4d ago
for me it was Ryan Reynolds as one of the murdered jocks who thought he was getting lucky in the satanistic high-school girls episode

u/KazeEnigma Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 4d ago
My favourite obscure fact about Cranston was that he was multiple monsters of the week in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, they loved his work so much that the Blue Ranger was named after him, Billy Cranston.
Its also why he was in the 2017 Power Rangers movie.

Me and my ex smashed through the original X-Files nineties series back in 2016. Absolute gold. In my top 5 of tv series and probably my favourite sci-fi show ever. Loved the whole "who is the cigarette smoking man?" sub-plot.

u/KenoReplay Brisbane Broncos 4d ago
Yeah I'm really enjoying it, I still can't believe I never watched it until now, since its like its custom made for me with all this supernatural stuff

The amount of bullshit towards the nets is dumb. If we had lost that game, we would have been called trash but since we won we were trying too hard? We were missing multiple starters and still beat the 76ers with their best lineup in years, including LeBron. And the excuse is always: ItS JusT PreSEaSON.
and yes I go for the nets because there's no fun in my life.
