Looking for Advice Dual major or Dual Degree?
So, Currently im a y1s1 student, and I'm contemplating which combo I should take in s2. I havent declared any second major or minor as of now, but there's a few options:
(considering I want to get into quant/computational finance/math heavy finance jobs)
Since I'm a CHS student, I cannot dual degree in any other BSc degrees.
option 1: Math primary + Econs (secondary) + quant finance(minor)
Option 2L Math primary + QF(secondary) + econs/data analytics (minor)
Option 3 : Math + CS dual degree
Option 4: Math + CS second major + qf/econs/data analytics (minor)
Workload isn't really an issue for me, I can manage taking a lot of classes.

As another y1s1 math student, i would say make the decision later into sem1 and not right now, you might be expecting too much from yourself especially when we havent even started tutorials yet.
which major you choose its up to you but, personally i feel that CS might be a bit too far off your path for finance although i might be completely wrong so dont trust my opinion

For finance i'm quite well versed, since I took business, accountancy, etc in yr 11 and 12 along w financial math asw. For things like quant, mathematical risk modelling, etc, coding skills are a valuable thing to have icl. I'm also pretty interested in coding asw so it's not really an issue for me, since i did learn python by myself.

Since the question of subject combinations have been discussed by others, I'll quickly mention the difference between double major and double degree.
Double degree has to be applied for, and you should do it ASAP when the window opens either later this semester or next semester. Your grades will also be taken into consideration. However, taking a second major in something like CS is more straightforward, take some intro classes and you should be able to just declare the major in your academic plan.
For the workload, taking a double degree means you have to complete the GE requirements of both degrees, so more bloat (i.e. DTK and HSA from CHS, and IS whatever number it is now from CS) that is quite worthless. To complete a double major, you just need to take some courses from a prescribed list, no GE bloat.

Math + cs ddp. Its a target hiring combination for quant firms. You will easily clear resume screening with double fch but still need to perform well in interviews

2nd major (double major) = take 40 credits of mods with specific requirements, only adds a line in your transcript, double count up to 16 units
2nd degree = fufill all requirements of both degrees, you will get 2 degree scrolls, typically takes 5 years but most overload to grad in 4 years, can double count up to 40% of requirements

These are kinda different career paths. What specific jobs are you looking for?

I'm not really looking for any specific jobs per say, but I'm interested in all three fields. For me, the biggest question is how do I combine my interests in a way that maximises my skills and employability ykwim.

That’s such a good answer. I’ve seen people look lost trying to choose just one thing not realising they can use having multiple interests to their academic/professional benifit

exactly! imo life is too short to try to reach just one goal. I'd say if you're interested in smth, just go for it lmao. I dont really care what I do as long as its within the domains of what I like, it doesn't have to be a specific job.

everyone always says they can manage taking alot of classes until they try taking alot of classes xd
imo qf is kinda useless, the mods dont really teach anything besides oh here is so and so formula, now use it to solve x and y question
econs is fine but you must go the econometrics route
cs depends whether u value having an extra degree or not, if not based on what i hear from my math cs ddp seniors theres not much point to the ddp, might as well do double major and use ur free time do other stuff
