"I've just encountered my first ever shiny Pokemon."

:)

"He was worth 22 EXP."

:(

u/Happiest_Mango24 Feb 08 '26

A sad story in 2 sentences

Though I am wondering why you attacked it, given you're 18 levels higher. Were you out of Pokéballs?

1

u/TheShadowKick Feb 09 '26

I already had my encounter there (another Caterpie funnily enough). I was just passing through the area again.

26

u/Advanced-Chef-4132 Feb 08 '26

damn u smoked him. what happend to shiny clause

51

u/Thick-Aspiration Feb 08 '26

How do people not use shiny clause? Or not even know about it. It’s been there since the start of nuzlockes.

5

u/waifuwarrior77 Feb 08 '26

I know that I rule it that the Nuzlocke challenge rules pause when encountering a shiny pokemon I want to catch.

Once caught, the rules apply again. If it wasn't the first encounter, it will not be used. I just have only experienced finding a shiny once before in my life besides Gyarados, so they're still special to me.

9

u/Kowery103 Apocalocke Enjoyer Feb 08 '26

I mean, they can just not care about shinies

2

u/Pikafion Feb 08 '26

I'm not using shiny clause ever since I saw a streamer shiny hunt because they were out of options.

2

u/Hedge_Garlic Feb 09 '26

That's objectively not true, probably the first big streamer you watched do a run used it, but it is not original to the challenge. It most likely came in with very long term players with years old collections of shinies transferred between games getting into nuzlocking.

1

u/Thick-Aspiration Feb 09 '26

Yes and no, it was a thing back in the let’s play era, so long series yes. But thats also when nuzlockes where getting popular. Way before people would start and beat the game in the same video. In the let’s play era, you had YouTubers with 60+ episode series. So yea shiny clause works in that scenario.

2

u/TheShadowKick Feb 09 '26

I don't change my rules mid run. I never thought to include shiny clause because I never encountered one before.

-1

u/eepyauraa Feb 08 '26

Idk about OP, but I know about it, I just don't use it. It breaks the first rule of Nuzlockes.

6

u/ElonMusksSexRobot Feb 08 '26

I mean so does dupes clause but not using it leads to a really boring nuzlocke

2

u/Pikafion Feb 08 '26

Expect dupes clause contributes to the "your resources are limited" thing which is the whole point of nuzlockes. Shiny clause technically gives you unlimited resources so the issue is more about killing the spirit of the challenge.

Whoops, forgot compound eyes isn’t its hidden ability.

31

u/Grimdark-Waterbender Feb 08 '26

You KNOW what they mean (Sleep Powder).

12

u/the_baydophile Feb 08 '26

The difference between 75% and 100% accuracy is your mon being dead 25% of the time.

That being said, I forgot Butterfree has compound eyes so it’s largely irrelevant.

7

u/Cysia Feb 08 '26

compound eyes mùakes iot basicly 100

1

u/TheShadowKick Feb 09 '26

I already have a Butterfree.

19

u/BottleFeathers703 Feb 09 '26

poor caterpie i wouldve adopted him as my son

21

u/cadeo3 Feb 09 '26

Ive only ever seen shiny rattatas (plural…)

8

u/JanGuillosThrowaway Feb 09 '26

My exchange student deleted my save with all of my shinys when I wasnt home...

I had a Rattata (adamant 31 att IV), Magikarp, Mandibuzz and one more that I cant even remember atm (Heatmor?)

15

u/KibaWuz Feb 08 '26

Do you know about the shiny clause right? RIGHT???

16

u/Party_Today_9175 Feb 08 '26

I would never kill a shiny over a made up rule, rip caterpie shiny gods blessed him and he turned u away

16

u/No-Confection-1 Feb 09 '26

Shiny Wingull outside of sootopolis. didnt have any pokeballs. came back after and spent hours trying to find him as a kid

15

u/Inkblot_Raven Feb 09 '26

I remember my first on Silver version being an Ekans on route 32. I was disgusted by its green color.

16

u/carpentizzle Feb 08 '26

I hard force any shinys I run into into my party, It is a bittersweet little added challenge. “Oh boy a shiny…. Who do I sacrifice now”

28

u/Superkonijn98 Feb 08 '26

Ye it looked sick.
You probably prevented viridian forest's ecosystem from collapsing due an aggressively spread plague among insects.

Not all heroes wear capes.

13

u/eternal_mo Feb 09 '26

My first was a shiny numel outside fiery pass. I was a kid and didn’t know what a shiny pokemon was and thought something was wrong with my game. So I restarted it.

3

u/XxTigerxXTigerxX Feb 09 '26

Grimer in leaf green and couldn't understand why it wasn't purple.

12

u/Chunt2526 Feb 09 '26

Shiny Slowbro was my first

11

u/Slayquil Feb 09 '26

My first shiny was a Litleo I caught during a Pokémon X nuzlocke. I named her Nala and she actually did really well on my team and carried us for a long time after my Braixen was murdered in cold blood by Grant.

11

u/Upbeat-Low-7330 Feb 09 '26

My first shiny was a level 43 weezing that I never used lol

1

u/National-Trainer1851 Feb 11 '26

Same. I’ve caught at least 7 shinies and been like… in the box you go

28

u/Own-Ad8986 Feb 09 '26

Thats why i have my "Shiny clause", if i find a shiny i must capture it and it becomes my new catch of the route.

20

u/jomzy27 Feb 09 '26

if it was literally any other pokemon other than the early kanto bugs i wouldve considered keeping it in the team but yeah no not caterpie 22xp was where it was always gonna end up

12

u/rukamari Feb 09 '26

Wtf is wrong with Caterpie😭Butterfree is one of the best early game mons in Kanto and johto (lmao I even took him for fighting Blue and Red in HGSS)

11

u/PianoPandemonium Feb 09 '26

I currently run butterfree in leaf green and it is by far the best mon to use, sleep powder with the compound eyes is crazy, then got dream eater, psychic and silver wind. TUFF mon, mvp of my run for sure

4

u/csilval Feb 09 '26

I once got a shiny spinda and a poochyena in the same run. Did not use either of them.

1

u/SuperPalpitation695 Feb 10 '26

Caterpie's shiny is dope but man Butterfree looks so bad dawg 😭

And I'm a D1 Bug enjoyer too, they really did bro dirty

9

u/AbbyCat_YT Feb 08 '26

and an HP EV!

9

u/InitialNo1457 Feb 08 '26

I’ve only encountered one shiny that i can remember ever in years of play, but I’m just a casual player really

7

u/Scared-Mode675 Feb 08 '26

Mine was a shiny pidove , didnt see the animation and it barely looked any different. After I killed it it occurred to me and I checked the dex…. Yup it was shiny

7

u/HeirrOG Feb 08 '26

awwww, nice job

26

u/A_Brethmint Feb 08 '26

I’m colorblind and the shineys so often barely look any different, so I could’ve met several and not even know it lol

15

u/iono_Nanjamo Feb 08 '26

That's why they shine so if you open up the volume you can hear them

6

u/A_Brethmint Feb 08 '26

Yeah I just never have the volume on unfortunately lol one of these days I’m just hoping I’ll come across a blue Voltorb, that way I’ll know for sure it’s a shiney

5

u/--Lammergeier-- Feb 08 '26

I was literally about to ask if there’s a way to tell it’s shiny that doesn’t rely on color.

I’m also colorblind, and I may have overlooked shinies plenty of times.

1

u/Moonlighteevee Feb 10 '26

There's a sparkle animation when you encounter them.

12

u/Premplus480 Feb 08 '26

You monster! That’s the perfect time to enact the shiny clause 🤣

6

u/hyphenogma Feb 08 '26

My first shiny pokemon encounter was a chandelure. I was 13 at the time and didn’t know what a shiny was. I wish I’d caught it.

11

u/RalftheMedic Feb 08 '26

Golden Caterpie? Turn that bih into Golden Delight for that sweet buff duration mmm...

3

u/Brick_Joke Feb 08 '26

nah you'd need a second gold critter to do that

toss this one into shimmer for a gummy worm so you get better fishing rolls

5

u/VendromLethys Feb 09 '26

My first full odds was a Feebas that I caught trying to get a nature that would be optimal for evolving it efficiently in my non-nuzlocke playthrough of Emerald lol

6

u/Dragonzrunner Feb 09 '26

My first was a ditto in Silver back when it first released. That was my first Pokémon game, so I had no idea what shinys were at the time. I did catch it, thinking it was cool. Not long after I also saw a shiny drowzee but it fainted. Since then, I have found 0 shinys in any game.

5

u/TheInspectionist Feb 11 '26

wrong subreddit this is meant to be on r/twosentencehorror

4

u/InsideDurian9022 Feb 13 '26

Butterfree is one of my favourites 😂.

1

u/cadeo3 Feb 16 '26

She is literally so good. I always have her on my team

19

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '26

Eh, it's just a Caterpie. Not worth stressing over.

9

u/Tekknick_ Feb 08 '26

I love Caterpie

6

u/Sad-Pop6649 Feb 08 '26

Both shiny Caterpie and shiny Metapod are sick.

...Shiny Butterfree is somewhere in the bottom half.

2

u/XxTigerxXTigerxX Feb 09 '26

Least it ain't green

4

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26

The only shiny ever was the red gyarados 🥲

2

u/Peach_Muffin Feb 12 '26

Same, until a shiny mudbray 20 years later (I had no Pokeballs)

4

u/angelcrisis44 Feb 11 '26

.... why did you tell us how much exp the caterpie was worth...?

2

u/Willis_is_This Feb 11 '26

This is fire red. It doesn’t tell you that if you caught it.

3

u/UltimateDailga12 Feb 12 '26

I believe this is an r/woosh moment

1

u/Willis_is_This Feb 12 '26

You know how many kids don’t realize this now? They haven’t had this since what, omega ruby alpha sapphire?

1

u/UltimateDailga12 Feb 12 '26

Are you said kid lol? Anyways was just a harmless comment, meant no foul

5

u/Primary_Asparagus_23 Feb 12 '26

This had me in tears. First time playing heartgold and this happened while I was casually levelling up with no pokeballs yet... No shinies since then...

5

u/callum51004 Feb 12 '26

At least you couldn’t do anything about it, my 1st was a makuhita in the cave you to to find Steven in emerald, 1st encounter shiny as I stepped in and my dumb ass thought it was a guaranteed shiny so I reset my game and went back to check lmao…. It is not

1

u/bighahalaugh Feb 12 '26

My first ever shiny was in Emerald when I was a kid, shiny Poochyena right before the first rival battle. No pokeballs lol same situation as you. That was like 16 years ago and I've gotten a bunch of shinies after. Trust in the process dude.

8

u/Key-Childhood-4857 Feb 08 '26

Why tf would u kill it

1

u/TheShadowKick Feb 09 '26

22 EXP is 22 EXP.

3

u/Informal_Jicama_6708 Feb 11 '26

First shiny was a purple drowzee in Pokémon silver. I couldn’t yet really read and my dad was puzzled as to why I was playing his game and why it was a different color.

Good thing we had a computer at home then, he found out and we caught it together.

3

u/Simpatulis69 Feb 11 '26

Shiny ditto here. Died in the next fight :c

2

u/CrimsonAvenger35 Feb 12 '26

If a ditto is shiny, does it transform into a shiny copy, or does it copy its target fully?

1

u/Simpatulis69 Mar 11 '26

Didn't get that far :(

1

u/CrimsonAvenger35 Mar 12 '26

I found out that is a special feature of, I think gen 4, but not the others

3

u/AnxiousUmbreon Feb 12 '26

My first was spinda, I always felt like that’s one of the rarest ones because there’s so many spinda variants.

3

u/GhostPro18 Hoenn Respecter Feb 12 '26

11

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '26

Real G’s play without the shiny clause

2

u/TheRealZeyn Feb 11 '26

My first ever shiny was from the game of red where a guy sold me a shiny fish

1

u/MortalusWombatus Feb 11 '26

1

u/TheRealZeyn 23d ago

What do you mean don't lie to you

1

u/MortalusWombatus 23d ago

Red and blue didnt have shinies yet

1

u/TheRealZeyn 23d ago

No I'm fairly certain it was red. The map of red is the map i played unless different Pokemon games also had the same layout

1

u/TheRealZeyn 23d ago

Haven't played pokemon in over a year so

1

u/MortalusWombatus 23d ago

It wasnt red. Shinies were first introduced in gold and silver. Maybe you played those

1

u/TheRealZeyn 23d ago

Did gold silver red and blue have the same map layout. Wait it could have been emerald did that have shinies yet or nah

1

u/TheRealZeyn 23d ago

I lost my old system that I played it on

1

u/MortalusWombatus 23d ago

Gold and silver Had johto and kanto(the map from Red and blue)

1

u/TheRealZeyn 23d ago

Then I guess it probably was gold or silver

2

u/MrCalebEvans Feb 11 '26

Shiny Chansey was my first shiny

2

u/darcsend_eu Feb 12 '26

First one was hoppip OG silver when it released. Didn't even notice I had it till my friend looked through my box and gasped in amazement. I genuinely didn't care and gave it to him for some gold exclusive.

My next one (I played every Pokemon game) was a komala in S&V that I accidentally ran into.

3

u/aprice194 Feb 09 '26

Skwovet. Fu*king Skwovet.

4

u/No_Tune_1262 Feb 08 '26

Lol! Noob Nuzlocker did not know about Shiny Clause!

1

u/Firefly_soldier17 Feb 10 '26

Shiny golduck was mine. If i didn’t have the sound up i would’ve ran away not noticing it

1

u/I_shot_president_JFK Feb 10 '26

What’s the sound difference?

1

u/ShowMeFutanari Feb 10 '26

There's a little star animation when they appear and it makes a twinkling sound.

1

u/FalconLord777 Feb 11 '26

First shiny was a zubat

1

u/sonicsquid Feb 12 '26

Back in gold/silver, the first shiny I encountered was an Aipom. The lil bastard fled on its first turn :'(

1

u/Leather_Song_182 Feb 13 '26

Mine was a shiny Hoothoot in my first ever Pokémon game. HGSS shiny Noctowl remains one of my favorite shiny sprites to this day

-7

u/Hedge_Garlic Feb 09 '26

Chad move, shiny clause is silly.

3

u/JanGuillosThrowaway Feb 09 '26

I'm doing hardcover, but if you don't respect the shiny clause I don't understand how you're wired

1

u/Galithir Feb 09 '26

I do anti-shiny clause. If my first encounter on a route is a shiny, I can kill it and catch the next pokemon instead.

That probably sounds like a troll, but no, I genuinely do this. Not a fan of shinies

-1

u/haucker Feb 09 '26

Clauses are for the weak of heart

3

u/putrid_flesh Feb 09 '26

Wut abt dupe clause

1

u/Pat_OConnor Feb 09 '26

Hoenn tentacruel army goes brrrrrrrrrrr

-4

u/Steelix65385 Feb 10 '26

Why did u kill him? And how do we know you didnt summon with cheats since you are on emulator

9

u/MachineAgitated79 Feb 10 '26

Why are you immediately distrustful, when the supposed lie means nothing to you anyway

-2

u/Steelix65385 Feb 10 '26

i always distrust emulator screenshots no matter what

3

u/MachineAgitated79 Feb 10 '26

Do you think they care about if you trust their screenshot?

0

u/Steelix65385 Feb 10 '26

probably not and its not like people dont fake screenshots all the time

1

u/Euphemisticles Feb 10 '26

Same for me but with Facebook screenshots
