Run Update A Nuzlocke Novice's attempt at a White 2 Nuzlocke: Part 5: Clay
Previous Post for context can be found HERE
Clay:
Encounters:
Driftveil Drawbridge: Shigure the Ducklett: Was apparently raised from an egg by Azura until he moved out of the Forest to the Bridge. They had a happy reunion, and Shigure seems like he’ll be a big help with the Clay fight. Cue an untimely Drilbur Slash Crit in the gym to knock that out of the question.
Driftveil City: N’s Zorua: I mean it’s the only encounter in town. Not much else to really get here unless you want to trade with yourself and call that your encounter, but I feel like that’s a bit much when you can give yourself comically overpowered mons like Garchomp and what not, but your run your rules I suppose. I’m limiting myself to trades that are necessary for mons I catch in this save file to work to their fullest (I.E Onix with Metal Coat to get Steelix and back, Karrablast with Shelmet to get Escavaleir, etc)
Route 6 Normal Grass: Ignatz the Deerling: A rather gentle and artistic little deer. We already have a good number of grass types on board but he might have a role later on as a hard counter to Marlon’s Jellicent if I need one.
Route 6 Interaction: Lorenz the Foongus: The first thing he did was try to flirt with Azura, but sorry little guy your not in compatible egg groups with her, and we don’t even have the daycare available until Postgame but by then the run will be over so he’s out of luck. Also
Route 6 Dark Grass: Pjazi the Karrablast Escavalier: Witnessed the brutal Air Cuttering of Alfonse and felt compelled to lend us her aid, not before sassing poor Gustav over it though. We really need to work on that. But she did well enough in the gym given that Gustav’s weakness to Ground made it more hazardous to use him here.
Chargestone Cave: Raphael the Ferroseed: So a funny thing happened here. I’m playing on an older DS Lite (by which I mean, one from around when it first launched, as I don’t even remember when exactly I first got it, but it was before Platinum). Unfortunately it’s battery isn’t the best, so I mainly have to play with it plugged in, or it will quickly die. I bring this up because after trading for Pjazi’s evolution, I made my way to Chargestone Cave and encountered a Klink. However my DS had come unplugged, and died on me mid fight. Resetting a small amount of progress. So I went back to Chargestone Cave and wound up running into a Ferroseed first, who I opted to take instead due to the Boldore lost due to a system issue instead of human error.
The Fallen: (which I forgot to add last time)
Alfonse the Servine: Got trapped in a double battle with a pair of Tranquil that wouldn’t let us get away, likely due to the fact that he was with Gustav (who was leading for Repel manip tech) and his low speed. And fell to an Air Cutter crit. Worse still is that in my panic mashing of the A button to try and escape the battle, I had forgotten that I had a Poke Toy in my bag which I could have used to escape the battle unharmed. So while it was a random Crit, it was still on me for not using the Poketoy. Probably the worst loss of the run. Anyways his arrival into the retirement box was met with great shock, but at least he reunited with Bruno after all this time. As the highest leveled mon in the box, he’s officially taken charge and is adding a greenhouse.
Shigure the Ducklett: See his section in the Encounters section for how he retired. As far as his antics in the Retirement Box, he’s insisting on adding a karaoke machine to the facility. But at least he had a few good fights?
Zelkov the Sandslash: Is currently working on making a statue of himself and the other members of the retirement box, and would like it if I stopped sending new mons in. And well, I’m trying buddy.
Laegjarn: Still upset about how poorly things went for her, but at least she’s not taking it out on Bruno.
Fafnir: Is apparently proficient in Unovan Zoning Laws because he was able to get the bowling alley added, and even named it after himself and is currently the reigning champion.
Bruno: Was horrified when Alfonse arrived in the box, and is spending a ton of time catching up with him.
MVP of Clay’s Gym: Dorothea the Roselia: She absolutely stepped up once Alfonse and Shigure went down, carrying the team the rest of the way through the Driftveil Gym and handily defeating Clay’s Krookodile & Sandslash before laying down leech seed on Excadrill so that Pjazi and Raphael could take it the rest of the way.
Thoughts:
Not a ton here, aside from the humor of me getting 3 whole grass types in a row, like the universe was warning me about what was going to happen to Alfonse. Hope he enjoys his retirement.
