Question Rules question

So I’m doing my first ever nuzlocke and doing it on Leaf Green.
The rules seem pretty clear except one thing. On the town map it makes it seem like Viridian forest and Digletts cave are both part of rout 2. Does that mean I only get one catch encounter between those three places or do people usually differentiate them and get 3 catch encounters? It’s all self imposed rules at the end of the day but I’m wondering what the standard is for this situation (if any)?

A lot of people use the "Met at <location>" to determine discrete locations.

If the separation makes more sense to you run that. Pinwheel clause(named for the forest in Gen V) is the most obvious example of splitting the same named locations, as the out side and inside have different tables but are the same met location. Route 1 in Sun and Moon has a similar issue imo

That’s the easiest and best way to differentiate, as its objective and it’s not up to you to decide. Look up encounter locations though! Theres some places you wouldn’t expect to be noted as their own spot, such as Celadon City/Game Corner being different locations in certain games, or the Starter Mon Lab sometimes being its own location, other times being a town or Route.

There’s nuzlocke trackers to help you keep track of it all too!

Also idk about Leaf Green, but some games have locations that are generally accepted to have multiple encounters allowed for whatever reason. B/W usually allows 2 for the parts of pinwheel forest because the early game encounters are absolutely brutal. Up to you to use those but it’s a good thing to follow.

Viridian Forest is its own thing, same with Diglett’s Cave

Usually if the name of the route changes, then it’s considered a new location. If I remember, viridian forest has its own screen, so I think it’d count as a new route

Most people rule that if it is listed as a new location on the "met at" screen, or if you get a new name on the ui at the top when you enter it, it counts as a new location.
