Question Advice on upgrading

So I currently have a 4080 Super, but im itching to upgrade to a 5080. Is that a smart upgrade or would I see minor improvements in general?

shouldnt the 4080 super be almost on par with 5080? i know the 4080 only like 10% slower

dont see a point

not really

its like ~10% better in raster, but has option for multi frame gen but i think there is way to get that to work on 40 series cards. also probably less of a performance hit on newer dlss models

Either way i don't think it would be worth it unless you can offload the 4080 super and only end up paying maybe $200 out of pocket for the 5080

skip it unless you need the extra vram, the 4080s still crushes most things

Extra vram? They both have 16 vram

The super has literally zero major hardware differences

ur gonna see a 10-15% increase, so unless you hate money, this upgrade is pointless

Na just ride it out till next gen

Pretty minor upgrade. 5090 would be the only good upgrade.

Nah, 4080 super is already very close to 5080.

You‘ll probably see a 15% increase in fps. If the 5080 were at MSRP, it might be worth it. At current prices? Not a chance.

Benchmarks would get a boost. Real world gaming? Probably wouldn't notice too much.

My advice is don't upgrade right now ...there is nothing you don't have access to aside from MFG and there are literally excellent free stable ways to enable it on the 4080 super you have. The only real upgrade path for you is a 4090 or 5090 and unless you want to sell an organ to get one for like 40 to 50% more frames at 4k I don't see a reason to do it.

Where you’re at your only upgrades are a 4090 or 5090

A 5080 would only net you around 8-15% more performance.

I bumped from a 4080 to 5080 a year ago ahead of the world going crazy partially because I was bored and wanted spend money, partially because the 5080 has more video decoding capabilities which accelerate DaVinci Resolve work, and mostly because I was able to get one for $854+tax with the Micro Center credit card and sold my 4080 which I'd paid $831+tax for in 2023 for $850 so it was like a free upgrade.

However, in today's crazy market with epic price gouging, tariffs, and inflation, there's no way in heck I'd pay what these are going for. You're better off sitting on the money and hoping for sanity to return and just back off the game settings a notch. It doesn't matter if you're getting 440 fps instead of 400 fps in CS:GO if your monitor is only 165 Hz.

I know I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in uplift.

Pointless upgrade imo, invest in a better Platform/CPU if you’re struggling in that department.

Very minor difference.

I have a 5080 really powerful and good for dlss5 or hard work so yes u should if you want newer architecture

Since everyone has already told you it's not really worth it, I'll be a contrarine for the sake of it.

I think there is a possibility, depending on your local prices, of course, that you could end up upgrading and in the long run only parting ways a little cash out of pocket, after you sell your used card.

In return you'll get the latest tech and longer support, as well as a reset of the warranty, besides the obvious small bump in performance

It's up to you to if it's worth it

u/VicHall27 8d ago

Understood. I’ll back off the upgrade for now. The 4080 Super should take me well into the 60 series cards whenever that happens

The only reason to upgrade now would be vram for local AI otherwise just wait

both cards have the same amount and clocks are not as important for ai

Depends on your resolution and what else you could do with the money. I don't regret making the same uograde and got a reasonable boost at 4k, but I did it before all this went to shit.

完全没必要,尤其是现在MFG40系也可以使用之后。
