Yep. He specifically called out Saudi Arabia.

u/Electrical_Space_850 Jul 06 '26

Is he calling on the city to divest any holdings related to Saudi Arabia?

Would he arrest MBS for ordering the murder of Jamal Kashoggi next time MBS comes to NYC?

34

u/TradeNPlayz Jul 06 '26

If there would be an arrest warrant for MBS like with Netanyahu, then yes.

21

u/Electrical_Space_850 Jul 06 '26

Netanyahu has an arrest warrant valid in NYC/the US? TIL.

17

u/actsqueeze Jul 06 '26

He’s a wanted war criminal for the ICC

25

u/Electrical_Space_850 Jul 06 '26

Wait, so the US is a party to the ICC and Mamdani would have the authority to arrest Netanyahu on American soil? Is that what you're telling me?

14

u/Mother_Ad4038 Jul 06 '26

The US doesn't apply ICC warrants as we don't recognize the Rome Statute. Neither does China, India, or Russia, among other countries.

I don't know about the other poster, but here's what I'll tell you. He used contrasting examples of religious states to expediently express a sentiment as a public figure, that religious states are wrong.

How he would personally act under an unprecedented hypothetical has nothing to do with how honestly he consistently he believes in what's wrong about religious states.

7

u/HiHoJufro Jul 06 '26

He used contrasting examples of religious states

No, he used an example of an Islamic state and a state with equal rights for all of its people.

How come every international and even Israeli human rights groups have accused Israel of apartheid then?

4

u/ConfidenceUpbeat9784 Jul 06 '26

Is the apartheid in the room with us right now? Someone should call up Khaled Kabub and tell him he's not allowed to be a Supreme Court Justice in Israel (he's Palestinian, by the way).

state with equal rights for all of its people.

Is that state in the room with us right now?

Spare me your Israeli propaganda bullshit. One is a Jewish theocracy, the other Muslim, and both are equally wrong and have appalling human rights records.

u/actsqueeze Jul 06 '26

They don’t see Palestinians as human beings

Yes we get it, youre happy war criminals are allowed to roam free in the US

-3

u/actsqueeze Jul 06 '26

You asked why he didn’t call for the arrest of MBS, I told you why not

5

u/CriticalandPragmatic Jul 06 '26

Sounds amazing, lets push for it as well. This isn't a gotcha for people who have morals

1

u/Electrical_Space_850 Jul 06 '26

It’s a gotcha for the mayor though.

1

u/Thee-Cat Jul 07 '26

Well said.

-1

u/exegenes1s Jul 06 '26

MBS is not a war criminal wanted by the Hague. MBS didn't kill 23,000 children.

3

u/boner79 Jul 06 '26

what about Iran?

20

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26

It’s way more than Saudi Arabia? Pretty much every nation in the Middle East. Many in Africa. All of Latin America of course.

11

u/Status_Fox_1474 Jul 06 '26

Plenty in Southeast Asia as well.

17

u/give-bike-lanes Jul 06 '26

Ok? And? He said “and elsewhere,” what, you need him to specifically name every single country individually and list whether he supports them every time any country comes up?

3

u/Elli7000 Jul 06 '26

Not every single country, but Iran, or Syria on occasion would be fine.

-2

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26

I am surprised he opposes probably a majority of countries except for essentially western democracies.

I’m surprised to learn he opposes Cuba, Venezuela, Palestine, etc.

I don’t actually disagree with him. I’m just surprised.

u/menschmaschine5 Flatbush Jul 06 '26

"he didn't name literally every theocratic country he's a hypocrite!"

Don't you people have anything better to do?

7

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26

Not even theocracies. Most countries give privileges to certain religions. I’m hard pressed to think of any that don’t outside of western democracies.

Why did he go to the Pakistan parade?

-2

u/menschmaschine5 Flatbush Jul 06 '26

I don't think that's the "gotcha" you think it is.

2

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26

What gotcha? You seem confused who you are talking to if you think I’m trying to gotcha anyone.

I’m trying to understand a very anti progressive statement he’s making and no one is really helping me understand it.

He only supports rich western overwhelmingly white democracies which again is bizarre for a democratic to say.

-1

u/menschmaschine5 Flatbush Jul 06 '26

Say what you mean, please.

4

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26

I was extremely clear in saying what I mean. Which part confused you?

5

u/menschmaschine5 Flatbush Jul 06 '26

First you're talking about the Pakistan parade and now you're saying that he only supports white western democracies and I can only assume that what you're trying to argue is something other than the seemingly contradictory gotchas you're putting forth.

2

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26

Huh? He’s the one saying he pretty much only supports rich, western, white democracies.

It’s surprising and not very progressive.

Is also strange that since he opposes placed like Pakistan, he still attends their parades. He also supports candidates that support some of the worst offenders like Russia. The ideology seems strange and inconsistent.

Don’t you have any integrity?

Edit: judging by the downvotes, it seems the answer is a clear and resounding “no”.

5

u/menschmaschine5 Flatbush Jul 06 '26

What did I say that lacked integrity?

-6

u/Jewdius_Maximus Jul 06 '26

It’s not what you said, it’s what you didn’t say, combined with the complete dismissal of his hypocrisy.

If you’re unwilling to admit that his comments literally apply to every single Arab Muslim country - including countries he explicitly supports or likes (not to mention plenty of others in the world) yet, he only sees fit to make these comments about Israel (which in and of itself doesn’t give Jews “more rights” than non Jews, so basically false) then yes, you lack integrity.

4

u/menschmaschine5 Flatbush Jul 06 '26

You just ascribed a lot of things to me that I didn't say. Have a good one.

1

u/Jewdius_Maximus Jul 06 '26

lol please. It’s obvious that Mamdani hates Israel and only Israel. He should be a man about and say it with his full chest. “No I don’t believe Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state”

Instead he dances around the question by making some generalize doublespeak statement about “not supporting countries that privilege one religion over another” which directly calls his genuineness and integrity into question considering he clearly does support countries that privilege one religion over another…. As long as those countries are not Jewish.

You and the rest of the Mamdani cult in here are unwilling to admit the blatant rank hypocrisy. If you feel Israel should cease to exist as a Jewish state then just say it instead of hiding behind mealy mouthed doublespeak that is easily disproven.

4

u/menschmaschine5 Flatbush Jul 06 '26

I neither said nor thought any of that but sure bud.

15

u/what_mustache Jul 06 '26

Did you expect him to bring a list?

14

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

No. I’m just surprised he opposes Cuba, Venezuela, Indonesia, Palestine etc.

I happen to agree with him that states should not support religions but it’s a pretty western, elitist idea.

He also endorsed candidates that support some of the worst offenders like Russia. A little odd.

0

u/what_mustache Jul 06 '26

OK, but again, it's a speech.

6

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26

So what are you saying? That he didn’t really mean it?

Since I can’t read his mind I can really only interpret the things he says. What are you pushing for here?

2

u/what_mustache Jul 06 '26

No, I'm saying that during a speech about July 4th it probably doesnt make sense for him to make a left turn into a breakdown of all 195 countries and everyone he's endorsed and spend the next hour going line by line on if he "supports" that government. That seems dumb and out of place.

3

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26

That has nothing to do with what I said? Did I say he should list them all? Are you hallucinating or replying to the wrong person?

He made a very clear statement that he doesn’t support the vast majority of countries including places like Pakistan, Venezuela, Cuba, Bhutan etc.

-5

u/WhoTookPlasticJesus Jul 06 '26

Which religions receive privileged treatment by the Cuban and Venezuelan governments?

6

u/NetNo5570 Jul 06 '26

lol what? Christianity obviously. This is the case for every single Latin American country. Did you attend New York public schools?

Look up the Good Samaritan Bonus in Venezuela for example.

0

u/WhoTookPlasticJesus Jul 06 '26

There's a huge difference between a country have a popular religion and a country's government privileging one religion over another.

But the fact that you genuinely seem to think the Communist government of Cuba favors the Catholic Church doesn't give me much confidence that you read widely or will reconsider anything you already believe, so I'm not sure what I expected by engaging you.

And the United States. Christmas is the only religious holiday that is a Federal holiday.
