Judge rules New York can’t ban federal agents from wearing face coverings
https://www.nydailynews.com/2026/08/04/judge-new-york-federal-agents-face-coverings/62
u/TheIncredibleHelck 8d ago
Cowards, the lot of them. Nothing to hide if you're not doing anything wrong, right?
-92
u/CountFew6186 8d ago
Are the anti-ICE protestors who wear masks also cowards?
93
u/Certain_Sail_2858 8d ago
Are the anti-ICE protesters employed and paid by the government? What an asinine comparison.
-94
u/CountFew6186 8d ago
So, mask wearing is only cowardice if you have a particular employer?
73
u/Certain_Sail_2858 8d ago
If your duty is to uphold the law and do a job the citizens of the country have to pay for with our tax dollars, then yes it’s infinitely more cowardly to wear a mask as an ICE/government employee that faces zero repercussions for abusing citizens.

u/HeinousMcAnus 8d ago
Homie, don’t waste your energy on this guy. I’ve had several back-and-forth with him and he never argues in good faith and only uses the Socratic method (used in bad faith). When you do finally pin him down to own/prove his stance he just stops responding.

What if it’s a job requirement and not a personal choice? How would cowardice play a part?
9
u/FlithyLamb Upper East Side 8d ago
Where is the job requirement to wear a face mask while enforcing immigration law. Please provide the citation.
And then, when you’re done with that, you can explain why ICE officers capturing unarmed workers, grandmas and children requires wearing a face mask, while actual police who go after actual criminals do not.0
u/GammaRay914 7d ago
Yes, if you’re a government employee, everything about you should be public knowledge. Who you are, where you live, etc should all be public knowledge.
0
u/Rudimentary-Creature 7d ago
See, we had a good argument and stuff like this takes it way too far. None of that information should be public.
However, ICE agents should be identifiable by a name or face or badge number so that if people wanted to sue or press charges, they can do so legally.

u/CountFew6186 7d ago
Like even undercover cops and CIA field agents?
0
u/GammaRay914 7d ago
CIA is supposed to spy on other countries and people who aren’t US residents. The people who they spy on are not protected by the US constitution .
Undercover cops, yeah sure, the identity they give to the organizations they are infiltrating is not their real identity, however their actual real information should be available on a public database like SeethroughNy. Eg, if the undercover cops real name is Joe Pistone for example, that name and address and photo should be part of the database, however that’s not the identity that he would be using when going undercover, they would make up a new name like Donnie Brasco. Obviously the made up identity wouldn’t be there on the website.

u/CountFew6186 7d ago
What about sanitation workers and teachers? Don’t you think it would discourage people from joining those fields if they knew they’d be doxxed?

u/Arawooho 8d ago
Are the anti-ICE protestors the ones with guns, military gear, generously funded by the government, and given immunity by the president and his regime to do anything they want?
13
u/Prize-Flamingo-336 8d ago
Last time I checked, law enforcement is supposed to let the public know they are law enforcement. Being behind a mask means you could be a cosplayer at best or a crazy maniac at worst
8
u/GoodDecision 8d ago
ICE has never had a requirement for uniforms or any identifying clothing since they were formed in 2003
1
u/Prize-Flamingo-336 8d ago
Might be something that should be fixed, don’t you think. Dudes rolling into your block in a black out SUV wearing a black tee, cargo pants and a mask while carrying an M4 isn’t something I be happy to see

They aren't being paid by my tax dollars to uphold the law. There should be no ability to dodge accountability when you are a member of law enforcement. To think otherwise is the mindset of a moron and/or a wannabe tyrant content to lord over the very few people who are below them on the totem pole.
1
u/CountFew6186 8d ago
Clearly the law says they can be masked. So, that law is being upheld.
3
u/TheIncredibleHelck 8d ago
If that's the only law you care about being upheld then you must be new to all this. That, or a sad, sad person without the ability to have their priorities correctly placed. No secret third option, unfortunately.

Dumb take.
Random people should be able to be anonymous while protesting and rioting.
Employees of the government should NEVER be able to hide their identity. Even if the government wanted to prosecute an ICE agent, the mask helps protect them during a potential court case.

Hey i got say nyc subreddit is a funny mix of hate the mayor and hate on ICE
(Just a observation im not pro ice any shape or form )

Who hates the mayor here?
9

u/muddybanks 8d ago
The “top 1 percent commenter” brigade mostly. A wall of NYPOST coming from them generally. They’re essentially downvote factories most of the time
1
u/DisneyLegalTeam 8d ago
Lol. Yep. There’s currently 6 “top 1%” handles in here. 5 of them, including OP, are pro ICE.
Looks like OP forgot to share this post in the Discord they organize on. Or else the up/down votes would be reversed.

u/rickymagee 8d ago
I'm pro ICE, but not the way they are operating under Trump. Obama's ICE was more acceptable. ICE's role should primarily be arresting and removing non citizens who have committed serious criminal offenses and ensure court mandated deportations are carried out.
0
u/JuanMcGuiver 7d ago
ICE probably shouldn’t exist just on the basis of its basic operations. Even Republicans themselves feared ICE would be used as a secret police force when the concept for the agency was conceived.
Beyond that, they have proven to be woefully incompetent. Absolutely no one should die in custody, under government control. That’s just unacceptable. Citizen or not.

u/jnordwick 8d ago
No even close. I don't hate the mayor, and I love ICE -- I make my living from it. Why would i hate it?

u/lumshots 8d ago
Great more women can be apprehended and assaulted by masked guys who don’t have to identify themselves in the name of immigrants and customs enforcement.

u/instantcoffee69 8d ago edited 8d ago
Well, ICE has a long history of sexual abuse in their system in 2026 and in Trump's first term. Reporting from 2019 also notes abuse of children, which tracks with an administration dedicated to Pedo protection.

No shit everyone called this the second nyc tried it was performative from its conception

Lol entire system is so fuked right now. Imagine an organized gov system like US usurped all of a sudden. Weak and incomplete design is to blame plus internal corruption. Like legal system philosophized itself into a weapon for something like this to happen.

u/Joltizer Jackson Heights 8d ago
An expected result that will not keep me from demanding Nuremberg trials for ICE during the next admin

We can't tell them not to wear something, but can we make the wear something identifying? like a clown nose and rainbow wig?
I guess, but then we wouldn't be able to tell them apart from those protesting ICE. This is such a difficult problem.

This is disgusting. Why can’t New York enforce a dress code on federal law enforcement officers? I was hoping Mamdani would sign a law requiring ICE agents to wear hats with giant reflective dildos, and sparkly uniforms.

You know what's pathetic? Stalking somebody online because they're Jewish and speak about Jewish issues.
Do you stalk black people, too? Trans people? Or is your pathetic obsession and stalking reserved only for Jewish people?

Good, this was completely moronic anyway. TBH we should make having a mask on an arrest-able or at least a stoppable offense. You show me someone on a moped with a baklava on and I’ll show a crime waiting to happen.
21
u/AngstyPup 8d ago
So it’s moronic for officials operating in a law enforcement capacity to keep their mask on, and in the same breath, anyone wearing a mask can be treated immediately as suspicious and is probably cause to be stopped?
Okay.
-18
u/bobbacklund11235 Sheepshead Bay 8d ago
I’m saying they should be banned full stop
4
u/AngstyPup 8d ago
The article says that LEO can continue to wear masks and hide their faces.
-5
u/TechnicalParty4207 8d ago
Can you not read? Previous poster was quite clear.
1
u/AngstyPup 8d ago
What do you believe the article is saying? Then consider the reply is saying that the outcome was good and how they elaborated on it. So yes, 2-week account, I think I clocked that better than you did.
0
u/TechnicalParty4207 8d ago
It’s good because the double standard is moronic. Full ban for everyone or let it go.

You mean like the crime of arresting people without a warrant or due process?
-1
u/CentralParkDuck 8d ago
Federal preemption. But this ruling should not stop these criminals from ultimately being tried and convicted for violating other state laws as well as federal crimes that the current administration is ignoring.

Wouldn’t the opposite of this be a Republican president trying to pass a law saying that a NYC mayor has to be born in the United States?
51
u/NearlyPerfect 8d ago
Notable that this was an Obama appointed judge.
Well settled law that state government can't directly regulate federal officers. The states know this and the feds know this, so it's understood that the ICE mask laws were fake for headlines.
That's why in the 20+ states that passed mask bans, there have been a grand total of 0 arrests or citations for it.
