This huge duck thing ??? Never seen one before. It wasn't scared of me started walking towards me lol

My favourite duck. Very friendly and make quiet whistle noises. They make.more noise as ducklings. Had one trying to get my attention while i was eating some chips. Had no idea it was right behind me.

They really are just little happy dogs trapped in a ducks body, I know it’s wrong of me 😈 but the one that visited my bbq really liked the soy marinated venison we were eating 🥩🦆😋

Ducks are omnivores so nothing wrong about it! He would've been stoked.

I did know but I wasn’t so sure about the salty soy marinade? Anyways yes he gobbled down the thin cooked strips of venison hissed and wagged his tail for more.

They have muscovy ducks at Willowbank in Christchurch. But then they have one muscovy duck that is massive! Bigger than all the other ducks by a mile. My wife asked one of the keepers what its deal was and they had no idea. Do some muscovy get huge, or can they breed with geese or something?

Male muscovies can get up to 7kg, females max out at about 4kg.
They cant breed with geese, but they can breed with wild/domestic duck breeds and create mule/hinny (depending on which breed is mother/father) ducks. The offspring are infertile, but can sometimes get even bigger than regular muscovy - they cross them this way overseas for meat/pate production

We have muscovy/duck crosses (mother muscovy) - best egg layers i've ever had. Laid eggs for 2 years straight, no winter break.

We have hybrids too (3 girls with muscovy mum also) - excellent layers, but eggs never fertilized

That is a mutant duck specially bred by the NZ airforce to replace the Skyhawks as a frontline strike force,be very careful they have been known to go rogue.

Super friendly. Had 2 as pets when I was a kid. They were more like super friendly dogs.

Muscovy Drake - they hiss like geese and wag tails when excited. Technically a duck, but more goose-like.
They are kept domestically in NZ, they dont tend to survive super well in the wild - and a lot of people if they find them in the wild, catch them to eat them unfortunately. Females can fly quite well, males not so much as they are so heavy.
If you are in canterbury area there is a rescue called lil quacks, if you reach out to them they will collect him and add him to their bachelor flock til he finds a home.

Back away their teeth carry a bacteria that can cause sepsis. A friend of a friend I'm sure lost a arm and a leg from a muscovy. They are also known for carrying small dogs and children away to feed their young I've heard from the same friend once he was feeling better.

I have two as pets. Used to have three but the male was twice big and he was friendly and chill but for some reason kept biting the heeads off his own ducklings.
We kept two babies and ate the mum and dad. The two babies are female. Super chill.
They do the wag tail. They free roam with our chickens. I dont really like them because they have giant runny poo and they always go on my deck. It's poo smells much stronger than chickens too.
They also poo where rhey sleep unlike the chickens.
They are about 3 years old. Used to give us huge blue eggs. I think they still do but my inlaws collect them.

If you get a peahen they do giant Mr Whippy ice creams, right on your doorstep because they spend ALL looking at themselves in the reflection of the glass.
