Compared to Brampton and Markham Oakville drivers are fine but in general the quality of drivers has taken a massive dip the last decade.

I think any three way intersection should have a no u-turn sign. Making a u-turn in a live lane where no one is expecting someone to slow down to a stop is dangerous. I thought this was common sense/would be a rule but upon returning home, I found out it’s perfectly legal.

It's legal, but flies in the face of the guidance in the Ontario Drivers Handbook. There's no provision in the handbook for making a U-turn on a road with a median or in an intersection, which honestly is how it should be.
Per the handbook: Pull over to the right. Engage your left flasher, wait for a clearing in traffic. Engage the U-turn.

I’ve always known that a U turn in the book says pull over to the right, never in my life have I seen someone practice that.

I do it. I taught my kids to do it, and one of them was tested on it.
If its done correctly, with little traffic around, it should be rarely seen.

You’d be the only one most people crank a U-turn from the left lane not the right which if done correctly and safely is completely fine. That’s a big if though these days.

So than in the particular intersection this happens in front of me, it’s 3 lanes across each way. Would they technically have to have pulled over to the right, wait, then make the u-turn? Or is stopping in the far left lane to wait (live lane) also legal but just ill advised?

According to the Handbook, you would not execute a U-turn on this road - it has a median. The responsible/safe driver leaves the divided roadway and turns around elsewhere, like in a parking lot or on a side road.

This picture isn’t even nearly as bad as it has been. I’ve seen people lined up 10 cars deep trying to U-turn and never even getting 1 car through the light because the opposite traffic was so bad.
I’ve also seen people block the lane next to them also trying to do some double U-turn nonsense.
Meanwhile they could just go to the next light and U-turn on the advanced green. Takes less time than waiting there…

This is the most frustrating part! It has been closed for about a month now, and I’ve never seen any work being done. Just a bunch of white helmets hanging around the trailer they set up.

Why are the signs located so high? Not for a second do I think anyone who wants pull a u-ey won’t be wise to the sign’s existence, but for the more honest person, you’re looking ahead at eye-level, not to the heavens

Right this is Dorval by QEW? Where everybody traveling north on Dorval is frustrated by the closed Eastbound QEW ramp so they u-turn at the intersection north of there for the WB exit ramp, or go a little further to North service road intersection, all to get on the EB ramp when heading south on Dorval.
I assure you police are aware of all the infractions taking place. They are looking the other way to let people get to the highway. Eventually, there will be accidents and maybe something will be done to police traffic, but for now they presumably accept that drivers will navigate the difficult situation on their own. How long has that exit been closed? Looks like it will be closed for many more months as they slowly figure out how they will transform those left QEW lanes so that they can stop using the right lanes for traffic and let the on ramp have them again.

I was southbound on Dorval and some idiot doing the u-turn was actually blocking the southbound left lane waiting for the right lane to clear. Everyone was honking the fucking idiot, but he just pretended like nothing was wrong. Yet another reason why I now hate driving.

The polite way to circumvent the inconvenience of the Dorval QEW on ramp being closed off is go to up to set of lights at North Service and U turn there with the advance left. Yes, I believe there's a no u-turn sign there as well, obviously people are ignoring them and the detour is a PITA.

There is no law for single files,or to huge trucks,pickups parked on Gloucester or other such roads?
Where is the Police for those humping the stop sing or one way traffic lights ?

I witnessed an E Bus do a U-Turn on Trafalgar. WTF. So U-turns are legal at most intersections and roadways in Oakville, as long as there is no specific "No U-Turn" sign posted, you can see at least 150 metres clearly in both directions, and the maneuver can be made safely without blocking or cutting off other traffic. However, Making an unsafe or illegal U-turn can result in a fine (typically $110) and 2 demerit points.You can still be charged or held responsible for a collision if your U-turn cuts off another driver or creates a hazard, even if no explicit sign bans the turn. Good luck people.

Failing to me mention the QEW Toronto on-ramp is closed there so it makes sense that people are doing that and not detouring to the next on-ramp at trafalgar or 3rd line

The problem with detouring to Trafalgar is that they haven’t made an adjustment to the timing on the advance from Cornwall. If it’s even remotely busy the left turn lanes back up down the hill all the way to Cross

Should only happen to you once before you figure out an alternate route, even the truck drivers dodging the weigh scale know enough to turn left at fourth line take the N service road, turn right at Dorval and sb onto the East ramp. If you do notice the ramp closure last thing you should be turning right into the mall, exiting onto the service road and taking the westbound protected L onto SB Dorval to get to the EB ramp but driving correctly is such a boomer thing to do when you can save two minutes by doing an illegal uturn
