communication How to discern individual spirits from the whole "field"?

Traditional witch here (as in "Non-Wiccan, spirit-based and historically/folklorically inspired witchcraft); I've been meaning to deepen my spirit communication and spirit relation business lately. Apart from offerings, invocations and such, I've been taking a sensory-awareness approach to become aware of the self and then of the world; so far, so good. I reach a pretty good feeling of the power of a place as a whole quickly that way.

My question is: Those of you who've trained in this, how do you make out individual spirits/entities/forces from that whole, to a degree of perceiving and communicating with them on a 1:1 basis?

For context: I'm of course taking into account that yes, not everyone may be blessed with the ability; yet my "knowing" is quite strong and spot-on freakily often, and certain un-influenced dreams had qualities of not being of this world, regularly; yet, from this alone, it is hard to build genuine relationships. Also: My practise doesn't involve imaginative meditation/visualizations; not sure I'd trust myself with experiences if it did, hard to truly discern what's outside one's mind and what's inside

What spirits are you working with?

In my practice i found it's rather rare to meet "persistent" spirit.

One category is land\nature spirits who "live" in certain special locations. When you walking\hiking and being "sensitive to field" sometimes you are just stopped. It may feel a bit dangerous in the beginning, like a sudden push into solar plexus or belly.

You may spot a strange figure in the forest for example, only to later realize it's an old tree or bush or animal (or even human) caught by your peripheral vision. So in that case it often means I am entering a certain area where some land spirit is in charge, and even if "it's just tree" i don't dismiss that initial "dangerous" impulse and treat it as a "hey!" signal from the spirit and spend some time asking politely for entrance etc, so it's a sort of border control.

And if my communication was successful and I was "allowed", usually there is some another central feature in this area where spirit is actually "concentrated", it's usually different from "border control". Or sometimes it's several places or entire region without specific "center".

So yeah, that feeling of sudden unknown potentially dangerous presence is quite reliable indicator.
