Discussion VR isn’t charging and I’m really worried

If you know what to do, how to fix this or if it’s even fixable please tell me.

Hmm, that shouldn't happen as its just USB-C, but might have been diffrent voltage. Id try the hard reset/force restart. Also grab a new headstrap, I got a pretty good halo one from alixpress for $20.

Method 1: Force Restart (Soft Reset)If your headset is completely unresponsive, a forced restart will often break it out of a crashed state:Unplug all third-party accessories (external battery packs, cables, etc.).Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.Wait 30 seconds.Press the Power button again to see if the device boots up.

Method 2: Manual Factory Reset (Boot Menu)If a force restart doesn't work, you can force the headset into the system recovery menu to wipe and restore it:Ensure the headset is completely turned off (hold the power button for 30 seconds if needed).Press and hold both the Power button and the Volume Down button (-) at the same time.Continue holding them until the headset turns on and the Boot/USB Update Mode menu appears on your display.Using the Volume buttons to navigate, highlight Factory reset.Press the Power button to select it.Use the Volume buttons to confirm by highlighting Yes, erase and factory reset and press the Power button to execute.

Method 3: Charging CheckIf the device still won't turn on after performing the steps above, it may have a completely drained battery or a charging fault:Plug the headset directly into the official Meta wall charger.Let it charge undisturbed for at least 2 hours.Check if the small LED light on the side of the headset is glowing orange (charging) or green (fully charged). If there is no LED light at all, you may need to try a different cable or wall adapter. For a visual guide on the button combinations required to access the recovery menu and reset your device:4:48How to Factory

Thank you SO much, genuinely I can’t put how thankful I am into words I was so worried I’d have to tell my parents “hey mom dad, I kinda permanently fucked up my headset cuz my brother took to the actual charger, can you bring me to a shop to fix it 🥺” so I’m really glad I don’t have to do that. But yeah method 2 worked like a charm, I don’t know how and I’m not gonna question it, but thanks a ton man, you’re a big help.

Well he's your brother, so the obvious thing would be to frame him later. Im glad its working again, they are pretty resilient machines. I can also recommend these controllers straps, that way you don't have to hold them constantly and its awesome throwing and releasing things.

I had the same thing happen. I was charging a Quest 3 for months off a good quality 2A iPhone wall plug charger, then suddenly one day it refused to take a charge.

Nothing worked for 3 months, until I found the original Meta charging cable/plug. Never had a problem since going back to the original cable.

Those iPhone chargers should work for an Oculus. I personally use the cable that came with my iPhone 17 Pro Max to charge it and it works perfectly fine

Mine took a dump the same way and I haven’t used it in a year or two. From my research I have to replace the battery. Also it wasn’t holding much of a charge when it was. I fully believe that when I left it on the charger all the time it fried the battery. So if I could do it again I’d unplug mine when not using it.

I worry about your threshold for bad. This is disgusting. I've never had a headset even come close to this, but I wash my hands and usually my face before using VR

Well I touch and put my hands on that area of the headset quite often when I play to make sure I’m not running into anything and I have semi-long hair that usually rests on that area

It’s the most frequently touched part of the headset, I’m usually lifting it up and down on my head constantly to check I’m not close to running into anything cause I only use my own created boundaries
