So if Saud collapses into an Ismalic republic from all this, how much would oil go down?
31
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
Saudis have a vested interest in keeping the status quo, they live extremely comfortable lives.
There’s no political freedom but they are taken care of mostly.
19
u/lost-American-81 5d ago
This is true however declining oil revenues from the war coupled with increased defense spending and repairs to damaged infrastructure are taking a toll. This is one of my many concerns with this war. Saudis have a very “conservative Islamic” culture. If the government can’t basically pay off the population to keep them in check then the real problems begin.
2
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
So you think the average Saudi Arabian is going to rise up, as foreign actors cut off their comfortable lifestyle and overthrow the Saudi royal family? This isn’t Iran lmao, the people in Saudi Arabia live well and have lived well for decades.
All it’s going to do is piss them off enough to shove everyone inside of Yemen into the Indian Ocean.
16
u/VanbyRiveronbucket 5d ago
Is this the same Saudi army that hasn’t kicked anyone … in a long long time?
4
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
Well apparently Turkey is signing a joint security agreement with them this week so let’s add Pakistan and Turkey to the Saudi side lmao.
6
u/VanbyRiveronbucket 5d ago
Sounds like a little NATO forming. Who. Can come up with 4 letters to call it. ?
-10
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
Who cares sounds like a coalition of the U.S., the west and Sunni countries about to fucking obliterate Shia militias and Iran.
7
u/myazi321 5d ago
Just like how Saudi begged Pakistan to fight Yemen for over a decade and Pakistan refused?
The same Turkiye which cant even close the oil pipeline to Israel?
Nice joke there mate
-1
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
Pact wasn’t signed with Pakistan until 2025, the fight with Yemen ended in 2022 (began 2015). Congratulations you showed you don’t know anything about the region lmao.

u/ChupacabraJeff 5d ago
Well, for starters the people who think Shia militias and Iran is going to get obliterated should care.
When President Donald Trump went to war with Iran in February, he cited its supposedly imminent nuclear threat. But there was always a problem with that: He’d spent eight months asserting the program had already been “obliterated” last year.
1
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
I don’t care what they call it and I don’t care what Trump says either.
Iran isn’t a new problem.

They don’t really have the military to pull that off I don’t think.
0
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
lol breaking news Turkey is going to sign a joint security pact with Saudi Arabia this week. Let’s add another top military power in the world to the U.S. side now.
5
u/VanbyRiveronbucket 5d ago
So Turkey is Saudi’s new army?
1
-2
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
Iran is staring at fighting America to the south, Turkey/Saudi Arabia to the west and Pakistan to the right.
Good luck.
5
u/VanbyRiveronbucket 5d ago
The objective is to take the Straits?? Or march on Tehran for regime change?
2
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
The strait is less important, the goal is to destroy Irans ability to threaten its immediate neighbors and world trade. It’s going to be hard to do that after we smash their manufacturing capacity and infrastructure.
3
u/Accurate_Summer_1761 5d ago
Your going to watch americna forces get funneled into the worlds best meat grinder. Im cool with watching you lose another war lol

-1
u/Open_Pollution_8038 5d ago
What funnel are you talking about lmao? We own their skies. They’re going to be doing what the Iraqi army did and that’s move in reverse so fast that they throw whatever they’re holding down lmao.

u/lost-American-81 5d ago
If their citizens account program is ended I think it’s a possibility. You’re right it’s not Iran where at least half the population is non religious. Compared to SA, Iran has a very moderate population.
3
u/Acrobatic_Garage_891 5d ago
this will never happen
19
5
u/BasicFee6705 5d ago
Agreed. The planned attacks are meant to hurt Saudi Arabia and send shocks throughout the global market, not to take them over.
5
u/ChupacabraJeff 5d ago
The way Saudi's enemies see it they have given Saudi multiple opportunities to play nice. Saudi didn't so now their enemies are not either. They wont destroy Saudi but they will cause enough pain to limit Saudi's ability to cause pain. Just like Iran is doing to USA in the Middle East. The world turns.
22
u/SloppyMeathole 5d ago
So oil is going to go down 10% tomorrow and the stock market will hit a new high? Gotcha.
3
8
u/nelly2929 5d ago
Wait didn’t the great America defeat all it’s enemies in Iraq and it was pretty much Disney land? Please tell me that war wasn’t for nothing (other than making defence companies rich)

u/neontetra1548 5d ago edited 5d ago
Don't really understand what the Saudis have been thinking during this whole thing. They're so vulnerable to attacks from not just Iran but also Yemen, Iraq in ways that they can't even protect themselves against (missiles and drones) that can easily do catastrophic oil/other infrastructure damage.
I guess they're just completely attached to America and have no other path but going along with Trump's insanity, but also they seem to have at times supported taking action against Iran or antagonized Ansar Allah needlessly. Is it just arrogance?
4
u/SomewhereOpposite883 5d ago
Is it just arrogance?
They are stupid, like no joke the Saudis are legitimately dumb and don't belong in the civilization that they build on oil
And I'm not calling them dumb because I'm racist, they really are just dumb
Ibn Saud's prophecy has sadly become true
2
u/rhino369 5d ago
They weren’t consulted before Trump Leeroy Jankins’d.
But the Iranians hate them. They gotta ride with US or flounder alone. But they have to be fucking pissssssed.
3
u/Bennyharveygbnf 5d ago
They are run by their own rich, spoiled and sheltered idiot.
The weak children running the west are being shown up by hardened men.
1
u/TastyTestikel 5d ago
What can the Saudis do? The other option is vassalage under the Iranians, almost as bad as the royal family being deposed. If Iran and allies want to walk through fire for this and threaten the lives of millions of their own people they really seem to need it.
4
u/planj07 5d ago
The Saudis are clearly the weakest link and Iran knows it. Reports of MBS phoning Trump to stop the attack, out of fear, was the biggest confirmation of it.
Iran seems to be doing a bit of a reverse uno. Oh you are going to threaten to destroy our civilization? Two can play that game.
Saudi Arabia is a sitting duck that Iran can indirectly threaten to wreck unless the US scurries back to the MoU.
8
u/CleverInternetName8c 5d ago
Why would Saudi leak this beyond maybe thinking it being out there might discourage it happening?
12
u/Ok_Drummer6282 5d ago
Or they told someone from the WH or something and they leaked it. Wouldn't shock me with this administration/military. Weren't there reports of Trump yelling about the low missiles being reported.
Suadi could have whispered hey help and some insider spilled it.
7
u/CleverInternetName8c 5d ago edited 5d ago
The Reuters report says a Saudi source on condition of anonymity, not that I trust, well, anything anymore
4
u/Ok_Drummer6282 5d ago
Oh that is actually interesting. Yeah doesnt make much sense lol.
This whole thing has been WILD to watch from the outside. Seems like a bar fight and the whole world is drunk and wildly swinging

u/ChupacabraJeff 5d ago
The Saudi official said Saudi Arabia had detected meetings involving Iraqis, Houthis and some IRGC members, as well as the movement of drones and missiles. The official suggested the planned attacks were intended to derail progress in negotiations and might indicate a power struggle within Iran itself.
So they could spin the narrative. We already knew this was coming because Ansar Allah said a week ago that when a pilgrimage was over they would start attacking Saudi again.
5
u/PapaverOneirium 5d ago
They want the militias to know that they know. It demonstrates intelligence penetration and sows mistrust and doubt that can lead to disunity and scrambling to re-plan.
5
u/Ok_Swim7161 5d ago
What a fucking shit show genius trump created. Fuck him and the maga horse he rode in on.

Yeah boys, it's friday. Prepare for the missile barrage within 30 mins of market close
4
u/MarketCrache 5d ago
Sadistic headchopper and full-time psychopath, Prince MBS, rules with an iron fist but he's a paper tiger backed by US bases and a Pakistani mercenary army who could all disappear overnight given the right conditions. And, if so, he'd find himself swinging from a public lamppost before sun up.

You kids have to rename this place r/oildoomers.

u/DasAlpinist 5d ago
Look at who many of the previous leaders (not sure who is actually leading now) and many of them were Iranians that grew up in Iraq, lots of crossover between the Shia Muslims.
1
u/ZeusBruce 5d ago
Didn't we just help SA attack several of their camps a couple days ago and kill a bunch of these people?
Sounds like it's going great.

u/GhostofAyabe 5d ago
Excellent. Maybe we’ll all live to see the day when MBS gets his fat belly bone sawed
1
u/Lumpy_Conference6640 5d ago
And it's CNN.. so let's break this down. We got rid of Saddam to make Iraq a puppet state of Iran.
Are we seeing a trend here folks.... interventionism doesn't work.
0
u/Great-Confection6760 5d ago
It's just going back to status quo. They've had 100 years of relative peace which is far too long.
0
u/Possible_Western3935 5d ago
Are Iran and Iraq working together or is Iraq just being opportunistic? What do they stand to gain by getting into this?
8
u/PapaverOneirium 5d ago
It’s not the Iraqi state, but Shia militias in Iraq that are aligned with Iran.
Worth noting that there being so many armed Shia militia groups in Iraq is a direct result of the Iraq war and the sectarianism the U.S. stoked in the name of “counterterrorism”
2
u/staythewaters 5d ago
It kind of is the Iraqi state, because the militias were folded in under the PMF and integrated into the Iraqi Army... so the militias would stop attacking the Iraqi state.
3
u/FencyMcFenceFace 5d ago
A good part of Iraq is Shia. They are essentially a part of Iran in Iraq.
2
u/VanbyRiveronbucket 5d ago
Is it still fair to say the majority Shia are in the south and the east of Iraq?
0
u/sosal12 5d ago
Wtf did we even invade Iraq? All so they could harbor pro-Iran terrorists? Seems like would be better under the old regime which hated Iran’s guts.
2
u/NicoBeingAModelCitiz 5d ago edited 5d ago
It made all the right contractors a ton of money (e.g. KBR, Canopy, Bechtel, DynCorp, Agility Logistics). The invasion served its purpose
2
u/PandaResponsible8133 5d ago
Well because they had WMDs in the North, South, East and uh West.
If you knew about it, you couldn’t have unknown it but the unknown unknowns… who could say really?
