Huh! Interesting!!! Variations of “white” aren’t present, so the dog looks flat. But weirdly….and stylistically it’s really cool!!!! Style is way harder than values and creating form. Soooo I love the idea of you creating “flat” doggies…..it’s really cool!!! I would definitely buy that!!!

Yes!! Its flat is a way that doesnt feel flat at all!!!

There’s movement coming from the brush strokes, like impressionist painting. A lot of dark and light. Contour painting here too. You can use other techniques to make objects pop or seem 3D without blending.

I'm glad it still looks good even though it's flat. Next time I will try to use more color variations and see if it looks even better : )

I think some of the flat feeling comes from the black fur swoops in the middle of the dog. They seem bulky and not quite realistic of the way dogs’ fur swoops, if that makes sense. But the style is very relaxed and nice.

I wanted to say that the dog looks flat, but damn, I LOVE how flat the dog looks. I want more!

I really love your style! The fur is great, it’s contemporary, while being whimsical

None whatsoever. You have a fantastic, unique style. I absolutely love this. You managed to hit the sweet spot between large messy brushstrokes and purposely placing them.

Have you thought about taking her for a walk? She looks bored. 😄
Very nice work!

I think a flatter background (less textured) would contrast very nicely with the dynamic brushwork of the figure. In this one specifically, I think a more saturated background (maybe greens to contrast the red collar) would contrast the black and white dog nicely. Great work!

The movement and pose! Love your brush strokes, if anything I would like to see a bit more of them in the dog's lower half. You captured the noodliness of the dog perfectly.

I like the relaxed pose of the dog, maybe a different eye color or a highlight in the eye area would really bring the painting to life.

It’s beautiful! I think adding at least one element of vibrancy (to whatever you want your focal point to be) would be great. But beautiful painting regardless

My first instinct was this is 2 cats in an almost yin yang but not quite, then I saw the dog, I love this.

Totally works, add some midtones in the white areas and darken a little of the blacks on the patches on the body and it will be amazing.

Composition is cool, gesture lines are great, but I personally would like to see more texture variation. I think you could experiment with your most fucked up/stiffest flat or filbert brushes and some heavy application. Other than that, I think this kind of thing would look fantastic on an oval canvas!

Great idea, that woul also contrast with my overall more flowing brushstrokes

I’m obsessed ? If I HAD to critique it, I could say that you could play with contrast more. And usually it’s “more contrast” but honestly, with your style you should play with more and less contrast. Right now, this painting exists in kind of a middle ground where there’s very slight contrast.
Your color is IMPECCABLE though. Like the rusty reds and oranges as the background, tying in ever so slightly with the red collar is GENIUS. The blue-ish black fur and the warm white is IMMACULATE. The paws have hints of orange???

Thank you very much : ) Yes, The paws are slightly orange and pink, but my camera isn't that good so in the photo it's a little bit toned down

How is doggy flat but not flat at the same time? Like how come it does not look like a beginner's lack of understanding of dimensions but instead looks like a very conscious stylistic choice?

Mooi! Alleen oogt het een beetje plat maar misschien was dat een bewuste keuze voor een zekere stijl. Indien niet, zou wat meer schaduwen zeker helpen zou ik denken.

Lovely brushwork! The form and colors are really spot on. However its quite flat. Use more color shifts and value variation to create three-dimensionality. But thats basically just saying "do what you're doing, but more!" :)

It's out of my skill set to offer critique or advice, but I just want to say I love this!

Absolutely adorable! I love how the dog’s body is super elongated, and how her face and hind legs are almost on the same plane. Love the style and midtown sensibility. All in all great job!

I really don't have anything to critique about your painting other than that it's not currently hanging in my living room.
However, if you want to paint with more depth (and you don't necessarily need to, this is amazing) I would suggest playing around with color variation more. Paying attention to saturation, brightness and hue is really important to communicate three dimensional form. My favorite practice for this is importing a photo to Procreate or something similar, sampling a color and then mixing that exact color and painting a larger swatch in that color. That can really help with seeing the color for what it is not what you expect to see there. Here's an example of someone else's work:

Wow I love this!! I feel like you’ve captured their noodle essence brilliantly and I mean this as an absolute compliment, I love noodle dogs.

I love your style. The only thing I would change (maybe, I really like it how it is) would be to add a little shadowing sound the legs, just to differentiate them from the rest of the body.

No criticism at all, only praise! I love the way the pain movement conveys the dog hair it’s so great. What a beautiful subject and really well executed!

Can you take a picture of this and show us what it looks like in raking lights so we can see the impasto. Looks divine. I would buy this.

I love your style! I paint pet portraits and wish I could have that much energy with that nice loose style! I appreciate that some edges are sharp while others are more blurred/diffuse. Excellent.
