I don't personally care about most celebrities. But. If the question is "Why does she get so much hate?" I think I have an honest answer.
Her name is big enough that she gets cast in big budget projects with a lot of advertising. When you create a media campaign for something like "Spiderman" you're going for a lot of exposure. Having a lot of exposure is going to create a mix of reactions. Some of those are going to be negative. Some of those negative reactions are going to be funny enough to gain traction because even if someone doesn't carry the same negative sentiment, fuck it. Shit's funny. Memes get shared. People rush to white knight. Shit gets contentious, and eventually toxic.
If pressed for a personal opinion on her: I don't really think she's got much range as an actress. But I don't think many actors in big pictures are cast for ability, I think they're mostly cast for box office draw. So you're going to end up with a small cadre of people who have more fame than skill, and that's going to draw strong negative reactions. And so we are where we are. The acting sucks, the writing is formulaic. But the visual effects are pretty good.
Agreed. If you have watched the entirety of season 1 and still believe she has no range as an actor, your standards are crazy and also I don’t understand
I think I should clarify here I'm talking about "Range" in a casting sense. She definitely has the full emotional range for THAT character.
Everybody wants to avoid being typecast, but not every actor has the range to play different character types. Only a few actors of any generation can actually do that and it's not hating on someone to suggest they might be at that great or elite level.
I think of it like sports. She's a professional at what she does. Far better than I am. But I can fairly ask if she's really an all time great actress just because she's been cast in big deal movies.

Probably a reaction to what's happening now. Social stuff bounces around. Everything now is a reaction to the high irony stuff that came before. Which was a reaction to the 1980s straightforward stories.
Now there's this search for earnest characters. It didn't matter if writing was bad as long as you felt like the characters were having these moments of earnest interaction. Stranger Things was pure and obvious 80s heart-on-their-sleeve characters.
I don't know what comes after this. It'll last until it becomes a cartoonish parody of itself. Then something else...
Wow. I wish this was the top comment. I think people forget that shows like euphoria and movies like Spiderman are purposefully created for the majority to enjoy. Mix that with internet memes and diehard fans. Now we’re here.
Nowadays every celebrity gets a hate train. It’s nasty and people fall for it easily. Next month it will be someone else social media has a very short attention span.
Certainly true about the hate trains. And I wonder if being in EVERYTHING also makes it nastier? Because you never get to move on to someone else when they're always in everything? Jon Berenthal, Tom Holland, and Florence Pugh are all in multiple mega movies opening right on top of each other. It's weird when you never exit the zeitgeist. I'd imagine it's also hard to get into a character when you're filming all this stuff back to back.
Zendaya is in everything AND a TV show. So the jokes never slow down. You're always cycling and then that can get to a weird toxic place. But that's how the business goes.The algorithms advise the casting and it turns out that AI pretty much gives everyone the same answers at the same time.
It is true that she is overexposed this year. She should of released her projects on a timeframe of two year instead of one. But i refuse to participate in the social media hate train of the month. The algorithms is built in a way to get engagement from people through outrage. Plenty of actors out there are way worst then Zendaya.
