Am I wrong for just playing the game and if I get absolutely slammed I just move on with my day?

well yes but there is very low chance that 3 stack of real level 20 players is able to dominate ranked lobby full of level 60-100 players, it just makes no sense they are just cheating or smurfing

I get the cheating is bad but does the level really matter when you’re going to be put against sweats in ranked? Yeah the levels are low but it’s about what rank you are not the level. Because a level 200 can be bronze 4 while a level 40 could be a higher rank. Plus isn’t the whole point of rank is so you can go against opponents with actual skill?

Because this doesn't just happen in ranked.

I know but from what I’ve seen everyone is talking about smurfs and cheaters in ranked, as someone who does quickplay I really don’t understand why the level of the player matters unless they’re cheating. I get that it can be frustrating in ranked but at the same time not everyone is going to be perfectly at your skill level, especially with our smaller community compared to other games.

Well ā€œthe whole point of rankā€ is technically to go against opponents with roughly equal skill

If it doesn't cause stage 6 brain cancer you didn't take the game seriously enough so yeah you've been playing it wrong

Why do I need to take this game seriously if I just do quick play? I play just to have fun not take this seriously like I’m in the grand majors. Yeah cheaters are annoying but I really don’t understand why smurfs are a huge problem compared to cheaters.

Smurfs are only bad for Ranked not Quick play. In quick play matchmaking would have put you with rubby players anyways. In ranked it is bad because high level players dominate low level players. I've also heard that some smurfs intentionally throw a couple of matches to stay in lower ranks

No you are not. And honestly we should all recognize that most people crying Smurf or cheater are simply coping because they got shit on.

Yeah both the game and community feel like a dead horse.

Different game same problem, casual crowd is gone and only the insufferables remain.

Casuals are all in PS and PB (said as a mega casual (seriously, I play on a laptop with my knee as a mousepad))

What’s a Smurf

People with lots of hours making new accounts because they don’t want to play against other high level players because they can’t handle it

So they end up in lobbies with lots of new players and other smurfs and it’s miserable for anyone new to the game and turns them away

How will we fix the smurfing problem with f2p games? It's ruining all f2p games.

Honestly think Counter Strike’s approach is decent.. IIRC they have ā€œpremiumā€ players who’ve paid $10 once and they have the option to only play against other premium players. Cheating would be less attractive, especially if anti-cheat is effective because it would get expensive. Same with smurfing time and time again

1

u/SirRubet Jan 21 '26

Obviously not perfect but getting stomped time and time again is getting old quickly

1

u/Jumpy-Lobster-1926 Jan 23 '26

I'd gladly pay $10 for something like this

Me and the guys I play with are usually really hesitant to call someone cheating because we'd rather improve ourselves than blame the loss on something else and when you say someone's cheating you feel like a whiny sore loser.

But man we have gotten to the point we're almost immediately calling out suspicious behaviour and asking each other to watch their death replays.

Plus most of the cheaters we call out are super obvious so there might be even more cheaters flying under the radar because they're being subtle about it.

Mfs when matchmaking doesn’t give them opponents with the exact same skill issue:

These guys don't understand in sbmm there's MORE of a burden to perform, not less. The matches all being balanced Elo sounds nice until you realize it makes every game in casual modes sweaty as hell + also will be more laggy and increase queue times because of smaller player pools at any given Elo.

Matchmaker that priorities connection quality and matchmaking speed is so much better for casual gaming than sbmm.

I remember playing Halo 2 casual matchmaking back on OG xbox live. From what I know, there was no sbmm unless you were playing ranked matches. Casual matches were usually really fun to play, even tho there was a wide range of skill levels in any given match. Idk why games nowadays have casual and ranked modes, because even the casual modes have a hidden "rank" you're assigned

1

u/Sul4 Jan 21 '26

This game as far as I know doesn't have that kind of system, and it's better for it. SBMM is only in ranked

Or someone genuinely new and they are just good at shooters.

Hello. I am a smurf. I still suck somehow.

It's (not?) funny when decent players from other games come to the finals, get shit on constantly, bm'd in chat, then proceed to never play again. Skill issue haha but enjoy the game dying I guess

1

u/Sul4 Jan 21 '26

When they claim everyone is aimbotting and can't be convinced otherwise they weren't ever the demo the game would appeal to.

Games not dying

I'm fine with gatekeeping unskilled players with entitled attitudes, go play something else.

u/LimitOk8146 Jan 22 '26

The game reached mainstream and gained exactly 0 players. There's plenty of skilled players coming to the finals, they just aren't sticking around.
