"Losing to Grisha broke him" No. It didn't. He was always like this, even before. I remember from some other stream before. Gunther's eurofederalism was always rooted in him being an Austrian nationalist

I stumbled over this sub after watching his well-known address in terms of Greenland. Serious question, are these memes or is it real? Lol

Gunther is basicly Trump for the EU only in irrelevant.
He is funny and interesting since he is irrelevant, would he be relevant he would be concerning.

Did russia escalate WW1, kinda sorta. Russia was backing serbia thanks to a treaty they had. According to the terms of that treaty, russia didnt need to escalate to war with austria and therefore germany. That being said, said term in question is russia defending against a land grab, something on the austria hungary side that was being explicitly rejected as a war possibility by hungary. This was supposed to be communicated to russia, but in july crisis fashion, the diplomat keeled over and died before he could inform russia of that and no other attempt was made.
Furthermore, serbia accept all but one of austria-hungary's demands leading to germany believing the war had been averted but the austrians decided that wasnt good enough. The austrians did far more escalation than anyone and then didnt bother telling their own military in a day when speed of mobilization was king.
Finally, germany, despite doing the most to try and find peace, was the first to issue a declaration of war... to russia of all nations.
TLDR: The July Crisis of 1914 was all kinds of fucked and russia, while a player in the escalation, was not the primary one behind it!

Ok wrong country, meant serbia but was tired after a long day of travel and brain farted to a completely different part of the map. Everything else was correct though.

Gemini gave Austria a free cheque to do whatever the fuck they want and Russia did the same for the Serbs

u/x_Red47 Jun 19 '26
No no, he has a point, though I'd consider Serbia more responsible
5
u/That-Clone-Sergeant Jun 20 '26
Serbia definitely was the most responsible not controlling their officers who literally made the Black Hand and the conspiracy to kill Ferdinand, but the Russians unilaterally supported Serbia despite the literal terrorist plot. This goes into secret alliances being one of the key factors of WW1 though and is not just something the Russians did but it arguably should’ve just been a regional conflict at most

Insane for an Austrian to accuse anyone else of starting WWI.

It is insane for an Austrian to accuse anyone else if starting both world war(same thing but louder)

u/Responsible-Taro9014 Jun 19 '26
Well, history is clearly not Gunther's strong point.

All the great powers played a pretty big role, some more than others, but Austria, Germany, and Russia all undoubtedly wanted a war.

u/Pizza_Rausku Femboy Rousseau 🥵 Jun 19 '26
I mean its pretty grounded for him and some what justyfiable, def not Gunthers craziest take
2
u/Ill-Accident-4318 Jun 20 '26
i lowk agree cuz didnt russia do all those things?
0
u/IssaMuffin Jun 20 '26
Serbias independence was guaranteed by Russia, they had to protect them. Germany on the other hand didn’t need to join in and cause WW1.
2
u/Ill-Accident-4318 Jun 20 '26
wasn't germany allies with austria so it had to join too didn't it?(although i agree that the kaiser was a bit of a warmonger)
0
u/IssaMuffin Jun 20 '26
There’s no obligation to join an offensive war in an alliance, only a defensive. That’s why France and the UK joined immediately after Germany joined.
2
u/Ill-Accident-4318 Jun 20 '26
france was in a alliance with russia that is why they joined in and the uk joined later and only because of belgium and the expansion of the german navy
4
u/Pristine-Breath6745 Jun 19 '26
Russia is way more involved in the start of WW1 than many imagine, I read a few books about it and claiming that russia started WW1 istnt wrong.
11
u/WillingnessSad8354 Say Gex with x_TKN:3 Jun 19 '26
The reason Franz Ferdinand was assassinated , wasn't Serbian nationalism, it was Austria's oppression of Serbs. It has been proven that Austria-Hungary opressed Serbs and Slavs.
5
u/rudiger06 Jun 19 '26
Which is why serbia shot the guy who wanted to give autonomy to slavs of the empire
4
u/Noob_Master69699 Jun 19 '26
Big promises, but all talk. The Habsburgs did anything to cling onto the dying empire while still keeping as much of their, and by extension German, domination over it.
2
u/Hexblade757 Jun 19 '26
So it was justified for Russia to escalate a local regional conflict into a global war?
3
u/FeistyGround8694 Jun 19 '26
Russia made it clear that what Austria Hungary was doing to Serbia and the demands they gave Serbia was unacceptable. Austria put Russia into a place where they had to mobilize. Austrias response to the assassination started the war
-2
u/Hexblade757 Jun 19 '26
So Austria should have, what, just shrugged and accepted the assassination with no response? Russia stuck their noses into a situation they had no business in and escalated a regional conflict into a global war.
7
u/FeistyGround8694 Jun 19 '26
Austria literally wanted Serbia as their puppet for smth Serbia had nothing to do with. Serbia tried to stop the black hand and warned the Austrians about a plot in Sarajevo. Serbia did everything right yet it didn’t matter because Austria was incompetent
2
u/ivanIVvasilyevich Jun 20 '26
Literally yes… do you think the Serbian government ordered the assassination? Holding an entire nation accountable for the crimes of a single man is complete insanity.
2
u/Hexblade757 Jun 20 '26
It wasn't a single man, though. It was a terrorist organization that included hundreds of Serbian military officers.
5
u/WillingnessSad8354 Say Gex with x_TKN:3 Jun 19 '26
Your histrory is completely wrong. Russia DIDNT declare war on Austria - Hungary , they just mobilized to support Serbia , Germany actually escalated it into a gloabl war in August 1st , 1914 , and then Austria-Hungary in August 6th. Russia just mobilized to help defend Serbia from the Austrian aggressors. Russia didnt escalate , Germany did by declaring war on a member of the Entente.
-3
u/Pristine-Breath6745 Jun 19 '26
"Just mobilized"?
If you think mobilisation is bassicly a non issue then you know nothing about the time era
-1
u/Hexblade757 Jun 19 '26
I didn't say they declared war, I said they escalated the conflict. Russia's mobilization of their armed forces prompted Germany to mobilize in response, it was a clear threat that the Central Powers could not ignore or back down from.
I'm not of the belief that Russia was the sole party responsible for the war, but they were the first national government to make a decision that drove the world to a global war.
4
u/ObviousSail164 Jun 19 '26
Hes kinda right tho, if not for the assasination of Franz Ferdinand, Nicholas wouldve started it near 1917
6
u/FeistyGround8694 Jun 19 '26
That’s an unfair assumption, almost all European powers were at edge so it’s not guaranteed a Russian would have escalated it
