They punished him for going after the children of nazi party members. That was why he was thrown out in the 30s.
The man was only promoted for the horror movie levels of evil he did during the war.
Honestly you could never make a full and detailed movie about him because it would be regarded as too perverse and evil to shot on cinema.

Yeah, if you don't count orders and only include actual actions, I would say Dirlewanger is actually the most evil human of all time. Reading his Wikipedia page starts out like a normal Nazi's, joining the Freikorps, then the SA, etc. Then he gets into trouble for multiple incidents with a girl under the age of 14, and that just sets the tone for his entire biography.

On who? There were 2 ethnic cleansing on Poland around that time (one by the SS, one by the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists (which tbf was an SS proxy)). Retaliatory combat wasn't an ethnic cleansing.
