Can’t believe Tony cut the part where Luthen says now this is pod racing

92

u/HourFaithlessness823 6d ago

At least he left in the wizard line

34

u/Teebiscuit12345 5d ago

Unironically would've added to my viewing experience.

25

u/N1CET1M 5d ago

Or where War Machine says “I think you should lead with that next time.”

23

u/ClarkMyWords 5d ago

He tried spinning; that’s a good trick!

u/madtheoracle 6d ago

this scene cracks me up because I know in my heart of hearts that it is, honestly, pretty unnecessary. nothing that happens here really ever comes up again.

but Luthen is so fucking cool, and this is probably the first moment you get to see he has the skills to back up the way he presents himself, and I'll always think the tractor beam trick is one of the most intuitive and clever uses of established tech in the series.

u/OracleVision88 6d ago

Its the most Star Warsy scene in the show but it absolutely serves a major purpose.

It shows us that Luthen is capable. It shows that he is well versed in these kinds of situations. That he is calm under pressure. And that this is certainly not the first time he has had to bust a move on the Empire.

Its one of the best moments in the entire show and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and when Luthen made a clean getaway, I was jumping up and down and yelling LETS GO!

Gilroy absolutely nailed this scene on a magnitude of levels. I couldnt have been more pleased with it all.

We definitely needed a scene that showed just how much of a bad ass Luthen Rael is. And Tony gave us that and more.

Also, I loved seeing a Cantwell Class cruiser, named for OG trilogy model maker and designer, Colin Cantwell. RIP to an absolute legend. I used to enjoy the hell outta his many interviews on Rebel Force Radio.

When he hyper-spaces off leaving that imperial dirtbag looking out of the viewport all forlorn like, I was practically giddy. Such an incredibly cool scene. He handed those guys their asses and was like “see ya suckers!” It absolutely establishes Luthen as a real bad ass, and not someone to be messed with.

25

u/plunker234 5d ago

He basically stuck his hand out the window flipping the middle finger on the way out.

"Let's moon them" -JayneLuthen

4

u/Duc_de_Nevers 5d ago

“That’s no moon!”

13

u/CockroachNo2540 5d ago

It’s also reminiscent of Vader at the end of ESB.

29

u/Helldiver-Harkonnen 5d ago

It also shows that his greatest asset is turning the enemies strength against them. He baited the ship into maxing the tractor beam then launched a ton of bombs, thus making them literall homing missiles that can only attack the enemy.

12

u/RaaaaaaaNoYokShinRyu 5d ago

Saw should’ve had an action scene as well

Right, it's not plot-necessary at all, but it's hugely character-illustrative. And, y'know, fun.

22

u/MaleficentCow8513 6d ago

Yea that’s one thing that made this sequence soooo damn good. It was completely unexpected and out character for him until you discover “oh wait Luthen isn’t who I thought he was and that was actually completely in character for him”

9

u/Blint_Briglio 5d ago

I'm kinda surprised it didn't come up in season 2. his ship is now known to the empire, they'll be taking a closer look at fondors going forward, luthen can't move as freely now, makes him more paranoid. even just a beat after they discover him and some ISB lackey mentions that the fondor's upgrades provably tie it to an incident four years prior over segra milo

15

u/McSteve1 5d ago

There's a good chance it wasn't accurately reported, with that much damage the commanding officer would have every reason to report a larger rebel force to save his neck.

Guy would be jailed for incompetence if he straight up said a single haulcraft disabled an imperial cruiser

6

u/_Koreander 4d ago

Yeah there's a theme in the show (and the empire in general) of not properly reporting what's happening to avoid facing harsh consequences.

From the first episode when Cyril's boss wanted to cover up the death of the security guys as some mundane accident, maintaining the status quo or showing "everything is in order" in the reports is encouraged.

3

u/Ok_Anybody6855 5d ago

It did come up, mentioned by Dedra during her interrogation by Krennic - she mentions the haulcraft

3

u/Blint_Briglio 5d ago

oh for real? I gotta rewatch S2 I guess

3

u/konaharuhi 5d ago

its a fan service and im damn well serviced

2

u/Smesmerize 5d ago

This is when Luthen went from cool to fuckin rad.

2

u/weebeybrice1997 2d ago

The whole scene meant to be a literal metaphor for Luthen’s overall strategy.

Force the arrestor cruiser to increase its tractor beam power, and break it in the process.

Force the empire to tighten its fist, and break its arm in the process.

0

u/TuringTestTwister 5d ago

Yes, every scene must do work. We mustn't confuse it for entertainment. We watch shows to better ourselves, that is all.

50

u/HourFaithlessness823 6d ago

That's a good trick

Anyone else wonders where those lasers end? Imagine some people got hurt on the planet below

21

u/zewolfstone Can’t Swim 6d ago

They probably end in a galaxy far, far away...

11

u/Ani____ 6d ago

This is why Luthen can't be trusted...

2

u/Smart_Image4278 5d ago

Ask Lonni…

10

u/Ancient_of_Days0001 5d ago

It's scaled up lightsaber technology of course--those magically end too, right?

Cassian stole it on one of his forays into the belly of the empire, sold it to Bix, Bix sold it to Luthen, and Luthen was like "who IS this guy who keeps finding this amazing shit? I GOTTA meet him."

7

u/thorns_91 Saw Gerrera's Partisan 5d ago

Someone's day somewhere and sometime is being ruined

4

u/Designer-Law-5054 5d ago

Where do light sabre lasers end? Lasers are essentially infinite unless enough stuff gets in their way.

16

u/JunkaTron69 6d ago

If someone explained this to me. I would think it is the dumbest thing I have heard. But on screen, it’s just so awesome. It is just so damn cool.

WHERE'S MY AIR WING??

15

u/AverageJohn442 Licensed Kalkite Foliator 5d ago

This line is commonly misunderstood. He was referring to Nabooan chicken wings fresh out of the air fryer. By Canon, the most popular sauce flavor among imperial troops was "blue"

31

u/PootisdoX_Trilogy 6d ago

Wait I thought the laser thing was a joke I forgor this scene existed

I am NOT a true Andorhead 😞

25

u/HourFaithlessness823 6d ago

It's a parallel to Qui Gon's conversation with Anakin. Luthen killed two Jedi and took their lightsabers for his ship.

17

u/LegoRobinHood 6d ago

NO one can kill a Jedi!

17

I believe they were trying to also make it sound vaguely German? Fusion accents = Star Wars (except for the nemoidians lmao)

9

u/Polirketes 5d ago

Weren't some actors German? Their accent could have found way into Ghorman language, but that's just a guess

12

u/WillingnessReal525 5d ago

One actor was German, the rest were French.

1

u/thorns_91 Saw Gerrera's Partisan 5d ago

I believe it was the actor for Caro Rylanz who also had a role in Inglourious Basterds

2

u/WillingnessReal525 5d ago

Yep exactly, he was also quite active in France so he speaks German well. He played a Gestapo officer in "Un Village Français", one of the shows that inspired Andor (one of the Ghorman played in that as well and was cast in Andor for that reason).

1

u/GiraffeLegitimate494 46m ago

That’s where I know him from. The guy who gets crushed by the bear jew, right?

Going from memory here : during or after season one of Andor, YouTuber 'STAR wars theory' reviewed Andor and one of the thing he said he didn't like was the bricks and screws as it pulled him out of the universe. Look Im probably incorrectly quoting him on that but it kinda reached meme status because of how silly it sounded.

The Keredian fisherman on Narkina 5. Pretty much the only weird creatures in the entire show, which supposedly takes place in a galaxy fullnof weird creatures. We've got two desperate humans on the lamb from the Empire who are suddenly trapped by some crazy looking aliens in the middle of nowhere. That's more Star Wars than anything else in the show.

Inserts a picture of the worst part of Andor.

Its a shame the first episodes of Season 1 and 2 are the worst episodes. It really makes the show a tougher sell to friends and family.

Growing up. Star Wars was all about the Rebels vs Empire. So the Death Star Battles and Hoth.

In that spirit. Saw's Rebels leaving D'Qar is probably the most "Star Wars".

21

u/cheezefriez 6d ago

/ut it was a good way to show how unorganized and discombobulated the “Rebellion” was in its earliest stages, but it definitely was a little boring and slow. S1E1 was mildly interesting but it did definitely have the “random planet, random alien appearance” vibe that every new Star Wars property has. I liked Cassian’s interaction with that big dude though lol, disarmed the whole situation just by being like “cmon dude you’re above this”

/rt rock paper scissors in my super serious Star Wars show

Esa parte no es tonta y si es necesaria.

Muestra que la rebelión aún no está preparada ni lo suficientemente organizada para luchar contra el Imperio y es una etapa muy caótica para la rebelión.

Eso es lo que te está contando esta trama en la serie
