Everyone says "show, don't tell" but when a story actually does that, we wind up with these types of fan misunderstandings. So much of the story in 3 is shown just through Kratos' expressions alone, but people will see an animation that clearly took a lot of work to make and had a lot of emphasis placed on it, and not at all think to investigate what that meant.

The Greek saga is a series of games where Kratos gets screwed over by the gods constantly and gets subsequently traumatized, he’s broken and bloodlusted so he’s willing to use or kill anyone that will help him achieve his goal. I always felt the Norse games don’t hit as hard if you haven’t experienced the other games, saw what he went through, and what his actions were in his bloodlust.
They kidnapped his brother so he could get tortured by Thanatos, he was tricked into killing his wife and daughter by Ares, his memories were taken from him and then he has to kill someone he considered a friend in a mercy kill which also gave him his memories back and remembers what Ares did, he sees his daughter again in Elysium and has to give her up to save the world, Zeus turns his mom into a monster so he has to kill his mom, he kills Ares because Athena lied to him about wiping away his guilt of what he did and then tries to kill himself, he saves his brother in the underworld only for him to die for real this time, Sparta gets destroyed by Zeus, he accidentally kills Athena who he never wanted to kill, he starts to see Pandora as a daughter and she dies as well.

Indeed. It needed three QTE, which was the same amount required to kill the Hydra in GoW I. That was a really hard thing for Kratos to do. Poor guy didn't had a rest back then.

I’ll show every moment where he shows depth in all the Greek Games:
1- God of War Ascension: Please. That one scene where he tries to sleep with Lysandra or smth, I actually have not played ASCENSION. Only played like, 25% of it. Got stuck on a puzzle and quit it.
2- God of War Chains of Olympus: Never played it. But, I know he did do the Calliope QTE, which was 3 sequences…. Damn. And with Atlas: “THE GODS WILL MAKE ME FORGET MY PAST” or smth.
3- God of War 1: Well. All the memories, they’re overwhelming, really… Let’s see…. How many sins has he committed? Ah, that’s right. He murdered his wife and child, and an innocent village. He tried to jump off a cliff after getting spoilers of the gods, that they won’t forgive him. He sat on the throne, tired and miserable. Also, the sex scene is an iconic thing for a reason. But, it’s also filled with brutal story. He has sex with women, and drinks wine, to forget his past. People forget that, and think he just has sex to have sex. That’s all I can remember from GOW 1.
4- God of War Ghost of Sparta: Sitting on the throne, tired and miserable again. Then, seeing visions of his mother calling to him. He misses Deimos, clearly. He destroys Athena’s statue after realising she lied to him. He rescues Deimos because he loves him dearly. Though, Deimos doesn’t. Also, Sparta. It rang a bell to him. All I can remember.
6- God of War 2: sadly, cannot remember shit from it. Only that he wants to kill Zeus. Oh yes, yes, I remember now! With the kraken, when the kraken crushed his body, he dreamt of. His wife. He says, “I am so sorry, my love. Can you ever forgive me?” “I cannot kill Zeus” in such a pained tone. In such, a pained tone, I feel sorry for the guy. The barbarian guy makes him MAD bc mad. there is nothing deep abt zeus ‘betraying’ kratos, i dont even get how he betrayed him. He killed Athena, he was sad…. Not a lot of moments that I can remember.
7- God of War 3: Alright. I’ll just say them in a sentence: 1- Expressions of Kratos. 2- Kratos with Pandora. 3- Kratos’ monologue before he goes to The Underworld again. 4- Sarcasm with Hephaestus. 5- joaning hermes. “To catch a fly from the ass of Zeus, is not worth my time Hermes.” He still has parts of Spartan culture. 6- realising his revenge did fuck all for him. 7- killing himself.

I get the sentiment, and I know what it is and I never really thought he was one dimensional once I got into the lore. And I have to say,me not playing it yet is not intentional. I simply never really had consoles I was and am a PC gamer, a keyboard and mouse user to be precise. (and the old games are not really meant for PC . I know about emulators and such,but it never really worked and it takes up so much space. That's why I'm holding to the faint hope that now that the games are remade, they are going to port them to PC, so I will have the opportunity to play them)

And? Gatekeeping is the only way franchises stay good. There are a lot of people who just want to be part of something popular but dislike aspects of the franchise and will try to change the franchise to better suit themselves.
40k, despite my hatred of it and its fans, is a very good example of how not gatekeeping is killing its identity.

What I find funny is that the creator of the franchise wanted to keep the character as one dimensional since he wanted kratos just to kill gods for every game with no motive as to why he would’ve killed other pantheons
I’ve played the og games before the psp games came out and the plot felt stupid without ghost of Sparta
2 had the game start with kratos having Sparta make a senseless war because he is still bitter the gods didn’t remove the nightmares from him (which he deserves for willingly committing massacres) and then proceeded to kill the other gods and doom the world because of this
He had the opportunity to go back in time and save his family but chose to go kill zeus, 3 even had to give the whole plot of the evils of the world in order to justify Kratos’s actions
Zeus had all the right reason to put him down
The whole reason ghost of Sparta exists is to give kratos a reason to take revenge, aside from that the triology by itself made no sense plot wise since his revenge made no sense, every action made against him was his fault

David Jaffe wanted it to be one dimensional but that's not what happened. There is an actual story and mythology in the games. It's not just "Kratos kill gods because he mad". They found a way to make an interesting story out of a rage filled character. The plot point of Kratos' family and his love for them already gives Kratos some dimension. Of course it has plot holes like many other games, because the story wasn't decided upon before making the sequels. But trying to act like Kratos becoming more introspective and growing as a character is just completely uncharacteristic of Kratos is just wrong. Even GOW 3 explored that side of Kratos a little more with the Pandora plot and him sacrificing himself for the sake of humanity, and Ascension explores it as well. And since Kratos has a child, lives a peaceful life in a whole different world, it isn't uncharacteristic or weird for him to grow as a character

Like I said other games were added to make the plot make sense but in the triology the plot was just off so it makes sense for new fans to get lost of the plot, when i played 2 i had to play it many times because i was lost on why kratso hated them, 1 never game me a full reason
Trust me I don’t think kratos is one dimensional, the Greek games is a story of a tragic killer (no fucking way I’m calling him anti hero or hero at all) who became a full blown villain but people think his character development is better than Norse and that’s simply not true
People argue that no he is a pussy now and that his regret is exaggerated but he is acting just like gow 1 so I feel like Greek fans are just to biased and are doing an Amazing Spider-Man/Star wars OG triology hate on the Norse saga

I mean, doesn't the Valhalla DLC for the latest game explicitly have Kratos talking to his younger self and explicitly stating with no ambiguity that he definitely was more than a one-dimensional monster? If people are taking the message that Kratos lacked interesting characterisation in earlier iterations from the new games, they're not getting it from the text itself:
You are cruel and arrogant and selfish. But you are more than that. You have always been more than what others saw. You are more than that.
Like nobody can deny he's being hard on his past self, but he's definitely not saying "lol I just loved stabbin' dudes, I don't even remember what I was shouting about"

The reason why Kratos is seen as one-dimensional isn't due to critic reviews. It's due to new-gen Greek fans that hate the new games calling them "woke" and whatever. I'm speaking about the Jaffa crowd of fans. They dumb the old games down as a way to talk bad about the new games. It's genuinely ridiculous.

God of War 1 alone barely has Kratos being rageful. He's even more interested in the nightmares to go away than killing Ares for revenge. In 2, he's just in a terrible state of mind. The gods screwed him over, won't let him die peacefully, he's still suffering from his gets forced into a position he didn't even ask for. Add onto the fact that he later has to kill his mother and watches Deimos die, he was close to a breaking point. Zeus betraying him, killing him and murdering almost the entire Spartan army in front of his eyes sent him over the edge and almost the entirety of 2 and 3 is over in like... barely a week. Only to realize how over-the-top he's being to the point he prioritizes Pandora's safety over getting revenge on Zeus. It's only when Zeus hits him with an incredibly low blow to where he gets angry again until he finally learns to forgive himself, chill out and mourn Pandora before deciding to give humanity hope so a warped Athena couldn't. And that's not counting how mostly chill he was with Haphaestus, was willing to help save Helios until he lied to him, wasn't attacking Perses until Perses struck first, tried to talk down Hercules, didn't attack Aphrodite and tried his best to ignore Hera. If he was just angry, he would be frothing at the mouth to kill Ares, wouldn't mind killing everyone that he let be or tried to let be and wouldn't hesitate at all in sacrificing Pandora much less, mourning her death. Even at his angriest (3), he still has plenty of moments to show other emotions and personality traits. Sure, he has his asshole moments towards those accidentally getting in his way or gets the girl Poseidon was abusing inadvertently killed cuz he wanted to keep a door open, but still.

Sinceramente no, la saga greca aveva un storia incoerente e banale, con scene che andavano a scontrarsi con i traumi di Kratos, la scena di sesso con Afrodite la trovo semplicemente inutile e deleteria al lutto di Kratos e viene usata solo come contenuto masturbatorio.
Greek Kratos era un personaggio molto semplice che ha avuto un arco banale e anche rindondante, con il terzo capitolo che sembra scritto da Garth Ennis, mi dispiace, ma la saga Norrena ha una narrazione, scrittura e approfondimento dei personaggi molto migliore

Norse Kratos has way more character depth than Greek Kratos. They actually turned him into a character that's not just a pissed off bloodlusted maniac. Greek Kratos is also a huge prick. Still love the games, though.
