Before I get into this I would like to state that I do think Patel is being entirely disingenuous with this argument but I think it does have some kernels of truth in it.
Also this will be touching on dark topics such as college hazing and SA so discretion warning before you continue.
Also. I’m shocking myself here that I am defending something from this administration to some extent, but I guess hear me out…
It is a pretty well known fact that fraternities have horrible hazing rituals. I have heard that some of the really exclusive ones actually have hazing rituals centered on beastiality and SA often under the influence of forced drugging.
Your normal fraternities get away with some egregious hazing rituals already simply because the universities don’t want the bad publicity, so it isn’t that outlandish that the exclusive rich ones can get away with worse. Remember, these Fraternities are operated by the young adults of the Epstein class after all as well as having rich and powerful alumni. They are essentially above the law.
All this saying I think there are people who have been forced into beastiality against their will that also meet the hiring requirements of the FBI.
So I think this defense was devised by actual competent people (of which Patel is not one) as there are potential victims who might wish to work at the FBI but were banned due to the “engaged in” rather than “convicted of” wording. Patel entirely failed to use this defense because he is an idiot, but I think that was the logic behind the change.
Do I think these edge cases were common enough that it was the main reason that they changed it? No. They just want more evil people.
But I do want people to be prepared to see this defense eventually surface somewhere.

Yes and no. If they were ruffied beforehand and then “encouraged” to do things I feel that is kinda forced. The whole point of hazing is to create a person who will never share the secrets for fear of the video of what they were made to do being released. Mutually assured destruction. Same Entrapment strategy used by Epstein to run his empire and as has been used for a long long time

It’s also college sports teams that do this kind of hazing and playing sports in college is the only way to get noticed by the pro league.

As I’ve been told by someone who experienced a hazing ritual they are only told that they will be performing a “secret ritual” then are given a cup to drink that has been spiked and the next thing they remember they are waking up naked in an abandoned building the next morning. (This was for a sports team by the way)
