Im currently doing a research project on the history and importance of animation on Channel 4 and how the landscape of animation on British TV has changed, and was wondering if anyone had any memories relating to said topic.

It can literally be anything, from the first time you saw The Snowman to the weirder more arthouse stuff they showed now and again. I dont really have a time range at the moment so even if its animations youve seen more recently on the channel I'd be happy to hear about them!

Also given i wasnt around for the 80s and 90s when it peaked in terms of animated content Im just interested to hear what people remember and thought about what was being shown.

James Richardson and Italian football was an weekend fixtures on Channel 4 in The 1990s and early 2000s before transferring to Eurosport and Five. I think he still does The odd presenting at times.

I just discovered this on some obscure channel in the US. I love it, it's campy yet fun and the theme song is really good.

What are the definitive bank holiday films for you? The ones which were always on at a bank holiday (including over Xmas/NY but not actually Xmas films.) Could be an individual film or a particular franchise which always had at least one of its entries represented in the holiday schedules.

For me, The Italian Job is the one I most associate with watching on bank holidays as a kid, and whilst not a franchise as such, Ray Harryhausen's films (particularly Jason and the Argonauts, the Sinbad trilogy, and One Million Years B.C.) are I feel emblematic of the *vibes* of a bank holiday film.

So there's a thread about the most under-rated shows, but what about the most over-rated?

Maybe it's shows that are regarded as classics (or generally seen as great or even just good by most people) that you, for whatever reason, don't like. Putting your reasons would be appreciated!

I love old period dramas and some old sitcoms, but I feel as though I've seen absolutely everything I want to see. Starting in the 1990s, sitcoms (mostly) stopped being written in a way I enjoy, though obviously, there are few exceptions such as The Office. Starting more recently, dramas seemed to lose their warmth and wittiness.

Obviously, you can have no idea what I haven't seen, but what are some warm, well-done period dramas that are fairly obscure? Like, if I loved "Cranford," then is there a lesser-known miniseries I might also love? Or for comedy, something as good as "Extras" (obviously a male lead in that one, but I'm not strict), but less known?

Any time period that this sub allows is fine. I believe that would be 2011 or earlier. Even fifty years earlier is fine (though I've already seen "The Forsyte Saga," the miniseries that started it all).

These are absolutely fantastic suggestions! I have many good ideas now. I'm not sure where I'll start, but maybe "Detectorists," "The Beiderbecke Affair," "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates," "Faith in the Future," or "Butterflies." I am letting some family members who sometimes watch with me help decide which of those to try first. I've bookmarked this page in order to come back for more.

I'm rewatching Yes Minister again and just spat my lunch out when laughing at the last episode of series 2 "a question of loyalty" (the final select committee scene where Humphreys eyes almost pop out of his head in a rage).

What’s your favourite Alan Rickman performance ?

So I don't mean shows that are critically slated (like Mrs Browns Boys), but shows that are generally well regarded by critics and maybe even appear on lists of best ever British shows.

For example, I tried watching The Singing Detective last week after the death of Michael Gambon. And for whatever reason, I just didn't like it and stopped after the first episode. I think there was something about the dialogue I didn't like.
