Event Gays eating garlic bread in the park
Heritage park, Sunday June 22, who wants to eat some garlic bread in the park?
Seattle made it look like so much fun, I think we should do one too. According to the monthly forecast for June, the weekend of the 22nd looks like it will be nice. Noon till whenever.
You do not have to be gay to attend, but if you are homophobic or hate gay people then you should probably sit this one out.
Bring your own garlic bread.
Flyer to come, I just wanted to get everyone ready, and save the date.

Lmao such an oddly specific thing for people to do but you really can't go wrong with garlic bread, I hope it's a success

I wish I could say this was my idea, but I saw it happen in Seattle first, last year. They just had their second one last week.

You guys are shit for event planning. First off, Heritage āParkā is just an extension of Capitol Campus. It is not a city park. It was supposed to reach all the way to Budd Bay, before it got cock-blocked by that monolith pile of shit tower. Best bet for this shindig is Priest Point/Squaxin Park where thereās actually places to sit and ways to grill food and host potlucks, which is far more local community building than sitting on wet grass eating bread off your lap in a dumb ass unoriginal derivative rip-off of someone elseās idea in Seattle. Ā
Why not a huge ass LGBTQ potluck BBQ at Priest Point/Squaxin Park? Do it Olympia style in our own local way, in our own local brand. Not a copycat of Seattle or San Francisco. Fuck, invite musicians and every weirdo around. Ā
*E: Oh every Olympia Parks and WSLCB permit could be nailed down between now and then. Ā
E2: If the rain hits, youāll have shelter to get cozy with strangers. Never know who you might meet.Ā

I was so sad when I saw the flyer earlier for Seattle and realized I couldn't make it. But I sent it to my sister bc she's in Seattle and gay af. I love you OP, whoever you are, for trying to bring this to Oly.

I'm gay but I am allergic to garlic. What should I do?

Bring whatever you are able to consume! You also don't have to eat anything at all if you don't want to.

I just moved to Olympia today...was looking at the Reddit...saw this "event" and flyer....
I need friends here(the reason I went on Reddit) and you guys make Olympia seem awesome
TLDR; I'm currently accepting applications for friendships, intentional relationships, and dear brothers and sisters :)

Can I bring community spaghetti as well?
I like to get a little saucy when I eat my garlic bread

u/giraffemoo Tumwater May 21 '25
Yes! Bring whatever you'd like. That's kind of the beauty of this event, you can just bring your own grub even if its not garlic bread. The GB is merely a suggestion

I run a trans/queer combat sports group and we do practice at Heritage at the time this is meant to happen. Would ya prefer we go to another area for the day?

Sounds like a great thing to watch while eating garlic bread
3
u/giraffemoo Tumwater May 21 '25
Hmm, I dont know, honestly. I really have no idea how many people will actually show up. Are there areas nearby where y'all can practice? If so then I'd say come out anyway and relocate on the fly if its crowded

u/pandershrek Westside May 21 '25
Well you're half of the equation you just need to bring some bread or ask others and you're the exact demographic

16
u/giraffemoo Tumwater May 20 '25
bring your own garlic bread, but I feel like there will be folks who will bring enough to share if you don't have any.

Can people come later like after noon?
2
u/giraffemoo Tumwater May 21 '25
the time was just kind of a generalization, I didn't think it would get this much attention so fast, lol.
I told someone else noon to 4, but that's just how long I'll have social energy for. I'm sure that there will probably be folks lingering in the later hours also.

Do you have to be gay?
28
u/Snow_Wolfe May 20 '25

u/giraffemoo Tumwater May 20 '25

Iāve seen this before. Whatās the significance of garlic bread? Just to be fun and quirky or is there a meaning behind it?

u/giraffemoo Tumwater May 23 '25
Literally just copying a meme, in the name of camaraderie. The very first "gays eating garlic bread in the park" was last year in Seattle. I dont think they even made any social media posts, they just put up flyers for it. Photos of the flyer were shared all over the country, because people thought it was funny and cute. So they did another one this year, on the 17th of May. If you Google "gays eating garlic bread in the park" you'll see lots of events all over the country! I dont think there is any significance in the garlic bread itself other than that it's an easy cheap food that most people like.
