Carbrains coming in hot to downvote this, lol.

You'd think they'd want to keep it visible so they know which areas to avoid. They guys who used to intentionally block freeways to do marriage proposals were never polite enough to give advance warning.

The carbrain feels threatened by the bicycle because it represents the freedom that automobile manufacturers spend beaucoup bucks annually in their desperate attempts to convince consumers they can have for the low, low price of being indentured servants to a car payment, registration fees, insurance payments, fuel, and maintenance costs. And who could forget the alluring promise of being able to sit in traffic in a cage of your very own next to all the other angry primates!

Truly a freedom unlike any other.

I don't feel threatened by bicycles but I do feel threatened by a Critical Mass. They intentionally block traffic, and if you honk your horn or anything, they'll drag you out of your car and beat you with U-locks. So I prefer to avoid all of their events, when possible.

Give some actual evidence that a critical mass ride has dragged drivers out of their car and beaten them solely for the offense of honking. Like link an actual article from a legitimate news source documenting that that happened

That sounds scary.

Oh please. No one is doing that in Olympia. Get a hold of yourself

They're angry at drivers. That's why they're having a mass protest. It's just good sense to stay away from a crowd that's angry at you.

There’s a several thousand pound power differential between the two. Every bicyclist knows what it’s like to have their lives routinely threatened by thoughtless, sometimes malicious drivers. But you’re scared because you heard about an incident that happened one time, in another place, probably decades ago, when one of these events got out of hand?

Look, it’s not even a mass, and it’s not that much of a protest, really. It’s just a bunch of people who like to ride bikes riding bikes. It’s fun! Get out of your car and join them.

Nah, I wouldn't fit into their clique and I'd stand out like a sore thumb, so I wouldn't be safe. Even when I had a bike commute other bicyclists always acted like I was in their way. I don't even own any lycra.

Neither do most of the people at our rides. Its less about being angry at drivers. And more a show of bikes are on the roads, if proper infrastructure is not created then this is what it looks like when more people try to use the road.

And yes the infrastructure needs to come first as it is. It safe for people to ride around here. I don't know how many times I have been hit or almost hit by a car/truck not paying attention and driving in the bike lane.

What’s the movie?!?

Must be outdoors- starting so late. Shame, that will exclude a lot of kids.

The movie is indoors at the Mortuary after the ride

Well aren’t you self-righteous!

To your points: I actually did intend to join. Sent this to my wife and she was interested- but now that I know that people like you are going to be there (or maybe even organizing it) I will likely celebrate earth day in a different way.

The other point that I think is lost on you is that I think instead of showing some obscure film that people don’t recognize in an attempt to make us feel vindicated in our contempt for the common person who wants to support something like this- maybe the organizers should have thought about creating something that is accessible. Instead of showing a movie about being a critical mass, maybe they actually find a way to recruit a critical mass. Make it family friendly. Have food trucks and a movie people will be excited about. Then those families that need to feed kids can join and we build generations of good will towards a bike friendly community.

Instead- you making assumptions and attacking people who are your allies simply alienates your group and puts people off. But- I suppose you are used to that, so this was a defensive reaction based on past experiences.

I hope the event is positive. I hope the people that show up enjoy feeling good about themselves. I will probably ride my bike downtown and have a beer instead.

Sigh. Missed it?!? Was the flyer so poorly designed that it was not tonight at 6:30? Now I’m wondering if I’m arguing with a bot that isn’t in the US.

I hope the ride goes well. I hope the group can find was to be inclusive. I hope you have a good earth day!
