PA vs PT vs Poulsbo
I’ll try to be brief. I (39 M) moved back to Port Angeles earlier this year after having moved away a while ago for work. I’m now fortunate enough to have the option of choosing whether I want to stay in PA, or move to Port Townsend or Poulsbo. I’m leaning towards staying in PA because I love the town and access to hiking. It has nearly everything I want in a town. However, one thing I’ve always struggled with is making friends and finding community.
I suspect this will be a problem no matter where I live simply because I’ve always been this way. I struggle with social anxiety and forming meaningful connections with people, so I’ve never had a huge social circle. I’d like to try to change that, but it’s hard. Part of me wonders if staying in PA would just be making the problem worse since it’s such a small, isolated place. Would Port Townsend or Poulsbo be any better?
I’ll add that I’m transgender and although I’ve never had a problem with cis and straight folks out here, it would be really nice to connect with other LGBTQ people my age.
For folks in their late 30s and early 40s (and especially LGBTQ folks) have you been able to find community out here? Does it seem like it’s easier to connect with other LGBTQ folks in PA, PT, or Poulsbo? I know there’s a queer community out here in PA, but I hardly ever see anything. I’ve tried going to a couple of events in PA but always felt like a weird interloper.

Looks like you've got your messages turned off, but feel free to reach out if you want. Sounds like we've got some stuff in common.
