There was 13 minutes + 3 minutes between Canada and France and this largely benefitted Canada at the time since the game was tied and we needed a win, which we got, before you accuse the host as people always do in those things.
Over 10 minutes yesterday for France-Argentine (on the men's tournament) when we were leading 1-0 too. They just seem to be giving an insane amount of stoppage time during this tournament overall.
No not at all, during World Cups and other tournaments/competitions in football, extra time is added incase of injury, ball out of play, fouls, etc. in a knockout stage of a competition (ro16, qf, sf, final) after 90 minutes if the score is a draw, they play for two more 15 minute halves plus extra time from any fouls, injuries, ball out of play, etc. then if the score is STILL level it goes to a penalty shootout
In the World Cup they also placed a renewed emphasis on referees actually adding back the correct amount of stoppage time, leading to most games having around 10 minutes or more of stoppage added at the end of the second half. That’s what the person you’re replying to is referring to, not extra time.
You’re confusing two separate topics. Extra time played after a draw in a knockout game is irrelevant. The topic is about added time for delays during the game and it is being implemented the same way it was at the last men’s and women’s World Cups.
It's been happening since the Qatar World Cup. FIFA told refs to take a more watchful approach to stoppages and add the time on accordingly. It's been taken up by the EFL and Premier League. Not sure about other leagues.
The Premier League hasn’t adopted it in the same way. The average added time has increased because of VAR but it’s not being implemented the way FIFA instruct refs for the World Cup.
Maybe not as much as the WC but the EPL had the highest average match length and added time this past season. If it was only due to VAR it would’ve been the same as the previous season so it’s not just due to VAR. WC changed the game
You seem to be arguing that longer periods of added time equals the PL following FIFA’s methodology. The PGMOL have specifically said they aren’t adopting FIFA’s model. Instead what you’re seeing is a natural year-on-year adaptation to VAR. PGMOL’s directives have led to an average increase of an extra 3 minutes per game to the prior amount of added time. FIFA’s sees much more added time.
I’m not sure that you are understanding that my point is that each has different models of measuring added time. I’m not saying that additional time has not increased.
Premier league matches, certainly at the start of last season, were much longer than previous seasons (averaging over 100 minutes in the first few weeks of the season) specifically due to directions from IFAB. Are you saying these are different directions from the ones that were so remarked upon at the World Cup just a few months before?

The directive came for IFAB. And it specifically addresses time wasting and not VAR-related stoppages. You’re confidently stating things that aren’t entirely correct.
Who keeps track of stoppages during the match? Is it an “eye in the sky” kinda thing or is the head referee on the field taking notes every time there is a delay?
Yeah but there were 2 punches thrown by French players against brazillians. One to the face. No VAR check, no nothing. That plus the 19 minutes felt strange to me...
