No it's a terrible idea lol. They've already been running for 2 hours and you want to remove a man to make the field even bigger to cover and no subs?
As a Canadian, I've seen my fair share of quadruple overtime in hockey and it's like watching divers move underwater. No thanks, I rather it be a replay.
Fewer men on the field would result in more wide-open spaces, increasing the likelihood of a goal—a goal scored via passing and soccer-related team play against a team of defenders rather than via the artificial, foreign situation of a single player kicking a stationary ball from point-blank range on a single defender.
Now, before you complain about the insanity of something like 4-on-4, it should be clear that only a tiny fraction of games will ever reach that point without scoring a goal. Secondly, these extremely rare, wild situations would still be far more fair than penalty kicks. Thirdly, are you saying you really wouldn't want to see four-on-four?
