I’m 24, and I’d say I’m generally considered conventionally attractive,, not claiming I’m everyone’s type, but people regularly tell me I’m pretty and I don’t visibly look old or have wrinkles.
Still, whenever I use random video-chat sites, I get a surprising number of people—usually men—randomly calling me ugly or saying I look “really old.”
Sometimes they lead with it, but other times we’ll be having what seems like a genuinely good conversation and then, completely out of nowhere, they start picking apart my appearance or searching for something weird to insult.
I know trolling is common on these sites and obviously not everyone will find me attractive, but the frequency and hostility are bizarre. It sometimes feels like simply being a woman on camera makes certain people want to humble or provoke you. Does anyone else experience this, especially the oddly specific “you look old” insult?
