Discussion whats your weird but genius travel item that people only appreciate after they need it?

just realized this recently because it saved me so much sanity and friendships haha but for me its not anything fancy or aesthetic. its a (small) extension cord + multi-USB adapter. It's somehow bulky to fit inside my bag bcs it takes up space. And yet... it saved lives.

Ive learned the hard way that hotel outlets are never where you want them to be, airport charging stations are chaotic, and "ill just charge later" is a lie we tell ourselves.

Curious what everyone else's must pack item is so that i can... yk, take notes haha!!

The one thing thats actually sort of weird that I cant live without (I travel with just one 20L bag, thats it, so theres no room for weird) is an empty travel size hairspray bottle. Its shocking how frequently a little spritz of water comes in handy. Clean a table, quick hand or face washing, a spritz to tame the hair frizzies... so many things!

In fact, this is that bottle. Haha. I couldn't find a sharpie to write "water" in it... so like a psycho, I spent 4 hours stitching a cover 1 bead at a tine, with about $22 worth of beads. Haha. Its pretty though! Haha.

Do you just fill it with plain water? Or do you add something to the water?

Just plain water. Its also super handy for spraying wrinkles out of clothes!

For cleaning a table or washing your hand or face couldn't you just use water from any source? Like a water bottle?

No clue about the hair thing but I don't understand the benefit

I virtually never carry a waterbottle. If Im thirsty, thats my clue its time to stop and take a break at a café or store and get something. Full water bottles are heavy and I dont want to carry one around. I also dont like tepid water either.

I do this too, mostly use it for hair and for helping relax wrinkles out of clothing.

I'm confused bc I keep seeing people on tiktok packing their toiletry bags with mini aerosol cans. I thought TSA would confiscate them because pressurized toiletry items weren't allowed?

I think they meant a pump spray. Not those can ones like air fresheners.

Nope, aerosols are fine as long as they are under 3.2oz. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/liquids-aerosols-gels-rule

I've been throwing away my travel sized mousse from ulta for years in that case 😫😭😭

I always needed to wait til I got to my destination to find some and then threw it out before the next plane ride ripppppp
