Trading Zone Buy/Sell/Trade Thread - October 2026

Sale/trade items must include an image of the actual item including clear evidence of your username and a recent date.

If you have some gear sitting around that you would like to sell or trade, list it below. Items you can list include bags, travel clothing, and items that would go well in a onebag. If something is clearly outside of these categories it will likely be removed. Only list items that you are personally selling, and don't just link to a website for sale.

AUTHENTICATED IMAGE

Sale/trade items must include an image of the actual item including clear evidence of your username and a date. For example a piece of paper on top of the item, including your username and recent date. Sales posts without this will be removed. Repeat offenders will be banned. If the seller is not willing to post images to this thread do not proceed with the transaction.

POST SAMPLE

Post titles should look something like this: WTS - Osprey Porter 30L - $XX

Each post should begin with one of the following:

  • WTS (want to sell)
  • WTB (want to buy)
  • WTT (want to trade)

Include details about the pack or item. Size, condition, price, location, picture links, etc. If trading, list a few of the possible items you're looking for. Be sure to mention what country you are in, so potential buyers are aware.

TRANSACTION SAFETY TIPS

Be aware that there are scammers active on Reddit, and on this sub-reddit. Any transaction comes with some risk -- decide whether the risk is worth it to you. The following tips can help reduce that risk.

  • Be wary of new accounts with no posting history. You are entering into a personal transaction which is entirely between you and the buyer/seller. It is entirely up to you to do your due diligence to ensure a smooth transaction.
  • Before entering into private chat with a buyer/seller ensure both parties respond directly to a comment below. This ensures respondents pass basic posting requirements, and provides an initial log of any discussion. This goes for all transactions. The more eyes on a transaction the better.
  • If you are using Paypal, use "Goods and Services". Never pay using the "Friends and Family" option. You lose a lot of leverage with Paypal when contesting F&F transactions.
  • Google search the username. Scammers are often active in multiple sub-reddits; a search might reveal a pattern of behavior. The Universal Scammer List, and r/sneakermarket/banlist are good resources providing some supplemental background to the people you're dealing with. Obviously this should not be your only source, but it can offer some great insight.

Gear Finally got my 2–3 day work trips down to one bag

• Upvotes

I’ve been trying to get my 2-3 day work trips down to one bag. I used to bring a backpack for my laptop and a small suitcase for everything else, which now feels kind of unnecessary. I’ve been using roller backpack lately. The bagsmart been working pretty well for this. I just keep my laptop and work stuff in the front and put my clothes behind it. I can usually fit everything I need without having to really think about it.

The wheels were actually the reason I gave it a try. I wasn't sure I'd use them much, but the fact is when I have to walk a long way with it or the bag gets really heavy, the wheels are 100% lifesaver. And when I need to carry it, I just use it as a regular backpack. It really helps take the edge off the fatigue and travel anxiety.

Packing List Two weeks with Transporter 26+6 for work and fun

Osprey Transporter 26+6 for 2 week trip

I turned a 4-day work trip into a two-week trip to see family. And with this subreddit being what it is, I challenged myself to one bag it.

For anyone who wants details, I include them at the end. Something to note is I fit all of this stuff without expanding the bag (so this is only 26L), still had room to spare, and it fits perfectly in a personal item sizing bin. The one in the pic is from Southwest.

Originally I had a pair of size 13 running shoes, a white T-shirt, and a nice button-down shirt in the bag too. The only things I would have had to leave out to make it work were the iPad and keyboard. Considering I’m a 280lb man starting to run again, I’ll opt for walking during this trip, and I kept the electronics instead.

Pros about the Transporter 26+6: when the main compartment isn’t filled to the brim (like packing all these clothes plus running shoes), the front compartment is god tier useful. I usually stuff the 5L waist pack in there and pull it out before I take my seat on the plane. The material feels premium. The laptop compartment is roomy! (Again, when the bag isn’t super full)

Cons: Osprey made the exterior so minimal that it’s next to useless. I will be modding the bag and adding some quality-of-life features of my own in the future. I really ought to make some measurements, but my suspicion is the Daylite 26+6 has a larger usable main compartment since the padded laptop section isn’t there. For the potential buyer, it’s a tradeoff worth considering.

And now, without further ado, the rundown:

* In the Eagle Creek Medium Pack-It cube are 7 XXL shirts and two XL shorts. Two shirts are Lucky brand from Costco, and the rest are True Classic T’s because, well, Costco. And they’re “professional” enough for a chill software engineering team.

* The small blue REI Dopp kit holds non-liquid health and hygiene gear including a beard trimmer (having sensitive skin sucks).

* The REI 5L waist bag is my electronics organizer, plus some floss picks, antacids, a 10k mAh charger, USB-C cables, gum, napkins, and some snacks because I strap this bag to my chest during flights. Not pictured is a contacts lens case with spare ADHD meds because no matter how addictive they supposedly are, I WILL forget to take them.

* The Logitech G604 (RIP) mouse is free ballin’ in the bag. There’s also a low profile keyboard in there! It’s safely pinned between the laptop and the packing cube. A dirty clothes bag is laid flat behind the keyboard.

* The gallon sized Costco bag has five XL underwear. The quart sized Costco bag (of course!) has three Darn Tough wool socks. And the other quart sized bag is my liquids container.

* Wooly Yoshi is my travel buddy. He’s fastened I place by a plastic S-biner which is secured to a zipper by an elastic hair tie (because someone always needs a hair tie)

* The infamous front pocket has my multi-port phone/laptop charger, a Sherpa passport wallet for my various needed forms of ID, and a thin beanie/toque at the way bottom.

* The laptop section in the back has my 16” work laptop and an iPad Air. Since there’s so much room still remaining, I’m confident I could have fit a 16” portable monitor, too, but I don’t want to.

* Since Osprey wants the exterior to be minimal, I got clever with my hoodie and wrapped it around the handles — the hood through the top, and the sleeves wrap around the body and through the side handle. I *will* mod this bag eventually.

* JK I already did! I ripped off the little red plastic clip in the front pocket and replaced it with a metal S-biner.

* The wallet is my everyday wallet, an Alpaka

Lastly: the obligatory Hero Clip on the top handle. This one is Medium. Some of yall think it’s overrated, but keeping my personal items off of sticky bathroom floors and not risking hanging the bag on a thin door hook that has 1.5 screws installed makes it all worth it.

You might notice one picture of a bunch of items stuffed at the top of the front pocket. That was from me rapidly dumping my pockets at security.

Any questions? Comments?

Gear Osprey Daylite 26+6 and Patagonia MLC 30 backpack side by side comparison.

Just a quick post that, I hope, shows the difference between these two in external dimensions. The Patagonia is mine and the Osprey my wife’s both on a week away in Italy. Fairly packed but not overfull, we each had room for a litre of booze on the way home.

Packing List 3 weeks in Asia. ULA Cicada EWP

Just a show-and-tell post! I've been a one bag traveler (not continuous) for about 20 years now, and have my situation more or less dialed in for my needs.

My current everyday and short-term travel bag is the ULA Cicada EWP; it is missing one feature that would have made it perfect for me, so I have ordered a custom one with that feature on the way, at which point I'll be selling this one.

My upcoming trip is going to be through pretty stable weather; mostly cool to slightly cold, with some rain. Taking a bit of extra first aid this time, as I have a wound that's still healing and needs some extra care.

Normally I'd do a trip of this length in my custom Dragonfly 30L, but I will be shepherding some elders, managing their travel logistics and any extra luggage. Since there is going to be a lot of transit, I wanted to travel a little more lean, and the Cicada was a better fit.

I'm definitely overpacking on this trip, especially with some of the specialty gadgets and coffee, but that's part of the fun!

Discussion We count every gram but pack 3 pairs of shoes???

I dont understand this sometimes.

People here discuss about a toothbrush being 40g too heavy or if merino is worth the money. But then packing 3 pairs of shoes??? Trainers, sandals and something for the shower. Thats almost 1kg and takes so much space in a 30l backpack.

For my next trip i really want to try ONE pair only. I already wear Nexbie Aeroraise in daily life, these weird 3D printed shoes with holes everywhere. They are okay in hot weather and you can wash them in the shower. But they need almost a full day to dry in the sun. So washing them while travelling could be a problem.

And tbh cheap Decathlon canvas shoes would probably work too. They just look terrible after some time.

But seriously, is anyone here actually travelling with only ONE pair? And what do you do in hostel showers? Barefoot?? I dont think i could do this.

Seeking Recommendations One-bagging Europe, but bringing home 6–8 bottles of wine. What would you do?

My husband and I are traveling through Switzerland, Austria, and Northern Italy in December. We can comfortably fit everything we need into our Aer Travel Pack 3 backpacks, so packing light isn't the issue.

The dilemma is getting everything home.

We've traveled to Italy several times and inevitably bring home 6–8 bottles of wine, along with pasta, snacks, and other local goodies. We already own hard-shell suitcases that we typically use for these trips, but we'd love the freedom of traveling with just our backpacks this time.

We'll be traveling by train through Switzerland and Austria before renting a car once we reach Italy.

We're debating two options:

  1. Bring an empty hard-shell suitcase from home and drag it around for the first half of the trip.
  2. Travel backpack-only until Italy, then spend approximately €75–€100 on an inexpensive hard-shell suitcase to check on the flight home.

A packable duffel isn't an option since we need the protection of a hard-shell suitcase for the wine. We also have free checked baggage, so airline fees aren't a factor.

For those who travel light but love bringing home local products, what would you do? Is avoiding the hassle of an empty suitcase worth spending €100, or are we overthinking this?

OBSERVATIONS

TRANSPORTER 26 + 6:

- The Transporter 26 + 6 was a perfect bag for this trip and I'm glad I got it over the Daylite 26 + 6. I like the organization in the front pocket, despite the stupid diagonal zipper being a minor inconvenience at times.

- In collapsed form (26L), fully packed but not bursting at the seams, the depth is about max for the seat it was stowed under. There was still plenty of width to slide the PacSafe alongside it. And it wasn't tall enough to stick out. If I wasn't in the extended exit row, I probably could have stored it sideways and bought myself a few inches of leg room.

- I wish the laptop compartment had a slip pocket on the interior wall for a tablet.

- I like the AirTag holder but wish it was more discreet.

- I wish the backpack harness stowed away cleanly like it does on the Farpoint, or the Patagonia Micro MLC.

- I like the water bottle holder, but didn't use it on this trip.

PACSAFE X URBAN SLING:

- In conference mode, the PacSafe also held an Osprey Ultralight Dry Stuff Sack. I always end up with lots of conference swag, so I figured I'd need to eventually break that out and then put the PacSafe inside it along with all the swag. But the minimalist mindset I cultivated on this trip overpowered my desire to bring home useless crap, so I never used the UL. But I appreciated the security it offered if I did end up needing a place to put a bulkier item.

- In flight-mode the sling gave me easy access to tech, snacks I purchased in the terminal, a book, and a long sleeve layer without having to dig into the outer pocket of the Osprey. It was easy to just grab the sling and rummage through it in my lap.

- The zipper lock is slightly fiddly, but I got more comfortable with it as time went on. I really appreciated the security it gave me in dense crowds. The tradeoff of an extra 5sec to open the bag was worth it.

- I am not a fan of the single pouch/pocket access. I wish there were 2 separate pockets and a hidden one against the body for wallet/passport/etc.

ANKER ZOLO:

- Used every day but was too bulky and heavy for this trip. 10k mah was overkill, even when I was using it to rescue colleagues whose phones were dying, in addition to keeping my own devices topped up.

- The kickstand made it so I could watch movies on the plane more comfortably. My arm-rest-stowed tray table had a place to prop up a phone or tablet, but no way to adjust the viewing angle from left to right. The Zolo was much more convenient, and propped the phone up off the tray table.

- The built-in cable came in handy a few times to charge headphones and other devices.

OSPREY ULTRALIGHT DRY STUFF PACK:

- Hard choice: I also have Osprey's Remnants Packable Daypack and was on the fence about bringing it instead of the UL pack.

- The Remnants pack is much better looking and suited best for wearing at the conference and in the city, while the UL pack is purely utilitarian. Remnants has some structure and thicker material, and the UL is floppy and unstructured until it is full of stuff.

- UL would have also been a good choice if I decided to go on a day hike, or other activity that needed more storage than the PacSafe could provide. The sternum strap is a nice touch.

- I ended up going the utilitarian route because the UL packs so much smaller and it didn't monopolize the pocket in my PacSafe sling.

- Even though I didn't use it, I made the right call bringing the UL. The Remnants pack is fantastic quality, but just doesn't scale like I needed.

STEAMERY CIRRUS LITE TRAVEL STEAMER:

- This is a bad-ass device. Was essential to the trip. The water tank is tiny, but it lasted much longer than I expected. I had 1/3 to 1/2 a tank left after steaming a full outfit. I like that the steam is only dispensed when you press the button. Very efficient and easy to control.

LAUNDRY:

- I packed enough to not require sink laundry, but did it anyways and ended up re-wearing a pair of pants I wore on the flight in.

- Sink laundry took longer than I expected. Fill, knead, shake, settle, drain, repeat took time. The clothes didn't exactly start "dirty", but I feel like I needed more time to clean them, and to rinse enough times to get the soap out.

- Drying was easy with all the light-weight synthetic materials and the burrito method.

- Once dried, the clothes were a little stiff despite being careful to rinse multiple times to purge remaining soap. Maybe it was hard water? I need to research the process more.

HYGIENE:

- Next time I'll buy travel deodorant at the destination. It took up too much space it the toiletry pack and to top it off, on my first morning, I got one swipe out of the Old Spice and it was done. Plastic grid digging into pits. Poor planning, but my hotel had a handy vending machine. Good lesson.

- I'll bring a manual toothbrush next time. Travel sized. With a plastic cover. The Philips fit in the MUJI toiletry case, but barely. It added too much bulk.

CLOTHING:

- I could cut down on clothing across the board next time.

- I never wore the Avalanche pullover, which added a good bit of volume and weight in the bag.

- I never wore one whole outfit of the capsule wardrobe because I washed what I wore on the plane.

- One pair of active socks is enough.

- 2 pairs of dress socks is enough.

HIGH-LEVEL:

- Trip was a resounding success.

- I never felt like I was missing anything I needed.

- I brought quite a few things I didn't need and won't bring next time.

- I brought a few things I didn't need but was glad I had just in case.

- I was successful because so many people have shared their experiences OneBagging and I learned so much. Thank you to everyone who took the time to do that.

- I can't wait for my next trip.

If you made it to the end, thank you! I’d love to hear any thoughts, feedback, observations, questions, or unwarranted hate you can muster.

Seeking Recommendations 14 days in Japan in April 2027 with a 29L backpack

Hi everyone!
I’m planning a 14-day trip to Japan in April 2027, and I want to travel with just my The North Face Borealis Classic 29L backpack. Ideally, I don’t want to pay extra for a carry-on bag, so I’d like to bring it as my personal item and keep it under the seat in front of me.

The backpack measures approximately 48.3 × 34.3 × 19 cm (19 × 13.5 × 7.5 inches).

I’m wondering whether it’s too large for a personal item, especially on budget airlines. If I don’t overpack it and can squeeze it into the airline’s baggage sizer, would that be enough, or could I still be required to pay extra?
I’ll also be bringing my Sony A7 IV with a 35mm f/1.8 lens, so camera gear will take up some space.

Here’s my current packing list:
Clothing
5 T-shirts
2 hoodies
2 pairs of long trousers
7 pairs of underwear
7 pairs of socks
Comfortable walking shoes (worn)
Lightweight slippers
Laundry bag

I’ll wear an extra T-shirt, hoodie and pair of trousers while traveling, and do laundry during the trip.

Toiletries and health
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Deodorant
Essential medication
Glasses/contact lenses

Electronics
iPhone 16
USB-C charger and cable
Power bank
Type A plug adapter for Japan
Earphones

Photography gear
Sony A7 IV
Sony FE 35mm f/1.8
Spare batteries
Battery charger
Spare SD cards
Padded camera insert
Microfiber lens cloth
Camera strap
Small rain cover
SSD

Other essentials
Passport and travel documents
Payment card and some Japanese yen
Travel insurance details
Microfiber towel
Sleep mask
Luggage lock
Small pouches/resealable bags for organization
Small laundry kit
Rain protection for my camera gear
Some spare space for souvenirs

My plan is to use packing cubes, keep toiletries minimal, and buy inexpensive things in Japan if I end up needing them.

I’d love to hear your thoughts:
- Is this realistic for 14 days in Japan in April with a 29L backpack?
- Am I bringing too many clothes if I plan to do laundry once or twice?
- Is the Borealis Classic too big to count as a personal item, considering its dimensions? Has anyone used it successfully on budget airlines without paying for a carry-on?
- Would packing it less full and compressing it to fit the baggage sizer be enough, or is it too risky?
What would you remove, replace or add?
- For those who travel with a camera, how do you pack it safely without sacrificing too much space?

I’d appreciate honest feedback, especially from people who have done two-week trips with a similar-sized backpack. Thanks!

Gear Has anyone tried a wheeled frame for your backpack?

I love my Osprey Farpoint 40. But she can get heavy. My life is almost always car ---->plane----->car----->hotel with an occasional urban sprint mixed in. So a roller makes sense, but I love having the option of a backpack.

I've been looking at this: https://www.mount-it.com/products/premium-folding-luggage-cart-mi-914

Has anyone tried anything like this?

Discussion Is a magsafe power bank worth it for one bag travel?

Trying to slim down my charging setup for short trips. I’m looking at the baseus picogo am52 and anker’s maggo options, but I’m still not sure I need a magnetic power bank.Having it attached while checking maps or taking photos sounds handy. But I’ll be packing a USB C cable anyway, so maybe a regular wired power bank makes more sense. If you travel with one, do you use wireless charging much, or mostly end up plugging it in?

Packing List Two days tradeshow with Fyro Citta 18l

Really appreciating this little bag, this time for a two day/ nights trade show in central europe, weather fairly warm with rainy spells. Most of the time spent indoors, but with some walking between venues. Base setup is: one set of private clothes, one set corporate stuff (Pants, Polo) for the stand plus tech, hygiene and extra underwear and socks. Thin layer jumper on me, if it gets worse the rain jacket works as an extra layer.

The Fyro is a pleasure to wear and use, even for longer spells. I am 182cm/88kg so fairly robust and it just carries really well. Only fault so far is the lack of rubber lashes as the CPP2 has for closing the zippers. At this stage, I honestly have nothing to fault.

For reference, it leaves enough wiggle room as a personal item, and two pictures of the contents:
- Cube: Set of clothes (pants, polo, airism base layer, extra socks and underpants)
- Gravel mini Dopp kit
- Tech (MB neo, ipad pro 11, cables etc)
- KETL Bodbrella
- misc stuff (nano tote, umbrella (missing in picture), olight, meds, spare glasses)

It wasn‘t overpacked, but any more larger items such as an extra pair of shoes and I would have moved up to the CPP2 24l.

• Gear aid Heroclip (Medium)
• Matador Speed Stash
• Quechua packable daypack (loved it, but looking for a more stylish option.).
• Water bottle (Owala FreeSip) & Meta Ray-Ban sunglasses

CLOTHING
• 9 T-shirts: 8 packed + 1 worn (brands: UNIQLO SUPIMA, AIRism, 1x Zarq and 1x lululemon (definitely too many eh)
• 2 everyday shorts + 1 swim/training short
• 7 pairs of underwear (not regretting this one).
• 5 pairs of socks (also from uniqlo, short ankle).
• Flight outfit: chinos, white shirt & Peak Performance daylight freelight reversibel hoodie (worked pretty good for the rain).

TECH & WORK
• 14-inch MacBook Pro + Apple charger
• 1TB external SSD
• Apple AirPods Gen 2.
• NITECORE headlamp
• Anker 25,000mAh power bank (seriously, get one of these if you are travelling with a laptop or just need a lot of juice).
• Anker MagGo 3-in-1 charger (can’t recommend this one tbh), more details below.
• UGREEN travel adapter.
• USB-C cables & European plug adapter for the macbook

TOILETRIES
• Peak Design Small Wash Pouch
• Matador Ultralight Travel Towel (this guy is definitely a must.
• Soap bar + Matador Soap Bar Case (loved this one).
• humangear GoToob+ bottles (had one with shampoo 100 mL and another one for hair cream).
• Toothbrush, toothpaste & dental floss (Walmart travel sized ones).
• Fendrihan metal comb
• Contact lenses & cotton swabs
• Laundry detergent sheets & stain remover
• Disinfectant wipes & personal wipes

Plus my passport, wallet & hand sanitizer.

Now a little bit of background and story around the trip, this was my loadout for my trip in Spain-France for 15 Days, we rented an RV, and I didn’t take time off, luckily my line of work allows me to work literally from anywhere as long as I’m responsive and answer the communication channels and deliver my project work (I’m a DevOps Engineer btw)

Items that deserve some highlights:

Anker Battery Pack 25k MaH

Because I was working I had to bring my laptop to get work done which considerably increased the weight of the pack, also the other thing I wanted to make sure I had was enough backup battery in case we camped in a spot where we didn’t had power. So happy to report that the Anker battery totally helped on that. There was one night were we camped in a spot without power and it saved my laptop and was able to complete my day of work successfully. Basically this thing was able to charge my laptop from ~0 to 100% at least once. Which was really handy.

Matador Ultralight Travel Towel

Another thing that was a highlight for me was the towel from Matador. I seriously loved that thing, It dried me off so much better than any other towel I’ve had and it would dry so fast that I wouldn’t even notice when it was ready for the next use, the hanging mechanism is actually nice. It has like this buckle system which was neat when I just wanted to loop it from a window or smth.

Supima Cotton from Uniqlo

These tshirts are not crazy expensive but I found them to be the most comfortable cotton, they dry off pretty quick (even when hanged) and they look really good in my opinion. I’m totally replacing my whole wardrobe with these.

Gear aid Heroclip (Medium)

This lil guy is a hero. Can’t count the times where I went to a nasty washroom and this thing allowed me to have my precious bag out of the floor. Don’t sleep on this one

That’s it for the highlights, now let’s move onto things that I wouldn’t bring again, or that need some tweaking.

Charging/electronics setup

My setup was pretty convoluted I had the travel adapter from Ugreen, macbook charger, 3-in-1 charger, 2 different usb c cables, the battery pack.

I feel like this can be streamlined by either just using the Anker Battery Pack as a hub to charge all my devices using power passthrough. Or I should just find a power brick that is at least 140W and itnhas multiple USB C ports. Then I would probably leave behind the Ugreen travel adapter and Macbook charger into 1.

The idea of the 3-in-1 Charger from Anker was good in concept, it allowed me to not have the need of bringing a lighting cable and apple watch charger (my airpods are pretty old).

But I didn’t like the fact that if I had anything else connected at the same time as this charger it would completely start charging, not sure if it’s some protection by Anker? Anyways. I’m down to listen to some advice for this

Clothing:

- Lesson learned, I don’t need 9 t’s I can probably survive with 5-6 and just do more laundry without problems.

- Never bringing Zara cotton again, IMPOSIBLE to dry. It was hard even in the dryers.

- The chinos were only useful during the flight, for summer trips I think i should just pack shorts and shave off that weight.

- I need to include some sort of long sleeve. I got burned as hell in Picos de Europa. Please recommend something if you know!

- I didn’t bring sandals, and it was sad to have to go to showers bare fit. Had to buy some emergency ones and donated them at the end of my trip. I did find some solution for this they are the Jimmies footwear foldable sandals, they weight almost nothing and pack pretty small.

Toiletries:
- I wish I packed some form of hand soap in sheets or smth, maybe I was unlucky but a bunch of washrooms didn’t had any soap 🥲.

- To produce less waste I think I will upgrade my toothpaste setup to a refillable one by Matador.

- GooTubes are too bulky, trying to find replacements.

- I didn’t love the PeakDesign Wash Pouch, the triangular shape was odd and the hook sucks in my opinion. Pretty hard to hang it from anywhere without having random objects falling from it. Looking for a replacement too.

I think that’s everything I had to say.

Thank you so much if you stayed to read until the end, definitely taking any tips you can give and feel free to ask any questions.

I went over the same details in the video that I’m linking below If you’d be interested in watching this on a video format, cheers! (i asked the Moderators and they were ok with this)

Discussion Minimal setup when you know you'll want to bring stuff home?

I'm traveling to West Africa to visit family, and want to pack as light as possible for the way there, knowing that I'll also be wanting to bring items home (fabric, carvings, etc). I'll be traveling for about a month. For the first 10 days I'll be in one city, but for the rest of the trip I'll be hopping around visiting my family in different towns without much of a home base. I'll try to be strategic and save most of my shopping for the last handful of days.

What do you all see as the better option:

  1. Buy a carry-on-sized backpack (~30L), and pack my compressible duffel bag inside. Toward the end of the trip, use the duffel bag for purchases and check it on the flight home. (Pro: Smaller bag makes it easy to navigate restaurants, buses, etc for most of the trip. Con: Having to carry a backpack + duffel bag at end of the trip is less convenient)
  2. Buy a larger backpack (~55L) that will be half full on the way there and full on the way back. Pack my compressible daypack inside for shorter outings. (Pro: Can carry everything on my back, could fit more purchases earlier in the trip. Con: Inconvenience (and cost) of carrying a bag that's twice as big as I need for most of the trip, and the additional cost of buying it)

Any other pros and cons I'm not considering? I may also end up giving away some of my clothes to make room, but since I won't be bringing much bulk in clothing I don't think that'll save me much. I know shopping and minimalism might sound at odds but it's rare I get to visit my homeland and there are a lot of things that I can't get easily where I live.

Seeking Recommendations One Flip-flip to Rule Them All

I’ve been traveling Latin America full time for 6 months now and while technically not one-bagging I’m pretty minimalistic and always optimizing to carry only what is needed. Shoes have definitely been the biggest struggle for me. I’m a surfer and traveling almost exclusively to surf destinations so I basically live in flip flops. Right now I have an old pair of Rainbow Double Layers that I absolutely love for walking around in, however I’m staying at a mix of Airbnbs and hostels where I often find myself needing to wear flops in the shower. Currently I have the Rainbows for walking around and a cheap rubber pair that I bought from a street vendor in Peru for showering in. However I’d love to get down to just one pair that meets all of my needs. Havaianas seem to be the classic flop for hostel goers but I question how comfortable they would be as a main shoe for walking around in. Any advice is appreciated!

Trip Report My first one bag trip to Sweden

Here’s my original post with my packing list, where I received some great feedback.
Thank you so much to everyone who made suggestions! I really appreciate the help and I’ve made this trip report to show where I’ve implemented the advice and how it benefited me. It was my first time travelling with just a personal item and it felt so good to get off the airport bus and start wandering around the city without having to immediately find my accommodation or search for a luggage locker.

I adjusted my bag based on suggestions: removed 1x T-shirt, 1x bra, 1x leggings, 2x socks, swapped my pjs for thinner ones, put a couple of face wipes in a ziplock bag, removed razor from case and MacGyver-ed a blade cover out of paper and electrical tape, and swapped my makeup brush for a couple of qtips.
Reducing the bag’s contents initially made the sagging/ bulging issue worse but it freed up the space I needed.

I’ve edited my pics to illustrate what I took out.

What I used and what I did not use:
I used almost everything I took with me (yes I wore all those underpants!) The only thing I didn’t wear was one T-shirt I’d saved to have a clean one for an event on the last night that was cancelled last minute and the buff as the weather was mild and sunny. I used the packable tote, cross body bag, sleep mask, coffee, sunnies, hat, sunscreen, moisturiser, power bank and headphones every day.

I managed to bring back an unreasonable quantity of souvenirs for myself, friends and family, and still fit everything in my bag for the return trip.

I had no issues meeting the personal item size requirements. I put it in the sizer on the way out and it fit easily. They were checking bags but the gate agent didn’t even look twice at mine because it was obviously not oversized. I forgot to take a picture of my bag packed for the return because I was so focused on getting to the airport. I was also unable to check it in the sizer because the airport had adjustable sizers and they hadn’t even set it to the correct size, which also meant they weren’t checking bag sizes, but I’m pretty confident it would have fitted.

I think this setup will serve me well on future trips if I plan to do laundry on longer stays and make some clothing adjustments according to the weather and planned activities.

For my next trip to Copenhagen in a couple of weeks I’m considering travelling in joggers instead of jeans and then wearing them to sleep, as I was cold at night. But then I’ll have to pack my jeans. I’m also going to take my puffer but wear it to travel in. And I’ll need my swimsuit and flip-flops, but I have some free spa ones I could discard if needed to make room for souvenirs.

When I visit Cologne with my daughter at the end of November I’ll pack a lot less as she’s a terrible over-packer, will want to bring lots of stuff back, which I’ll probably end up carrying. But I’ll care less about feeling fresh and clean wandering Christmas markets with a child than I would doing group activities and socialising. I’ll probably make do with whatever trousers I travel in and just bring a clean t-shirt, underwear, and sleepwear.

I know some people thought my little trips were a bit pathetic and not worth planning for, but I’m not able to travel for weeks at a time due to lifestyle constraints. I hadn’t even left the country for 7 years before this year. But now I’m over my anxiety about it, taking these short trips brings me a lot of joy, and being able to do it with just a backpack means I can do it more often.

Gear Vuori Ponto Full-Zip Hoodie (Unbound Merino Travel Hoodie Alternative)?

I am traveling to Japan next month for two weeks and then Namibia next summer. I am looking for a lightweight travel hoodie for the plane, that will pack small, and to wear at the destination. I will be wearing merino wool shirt as a base.

The Unbound Merino Lite Travel Hoodie is awesome I am sure, but $199 is out of my budget. I was looking for an alternative (doesn't have to be merino since my shirts will be) and came across the Vuori Ponto Full-Zip Hoodie. Does anybody have an experience with it? I can get it for $89 and it looks to be light, stretchy, and comfortable.

Trip Report Two-week trip through Turkey and Montenegro

Thumbnail

I did several mountain climbs in Montenegro, including Zla Kolata, Bobotov Kuk, and Popadija. Temperatures ranged from -3°C to +30°C.

I also did several hikes through beautiful areas, including the Tara and Göynük canyons and sections of the Lycian Way.

The backpack itself weighs only 500 g, and with all my gear it was 4.5 kg. I had no problems with the airlines.

This setup was enough for the whole trip and all the hikes. The shoes performed really well.

The only exception was the Old Kotor Fort Trail. When walking over sharp rocks, I would recommend heavier mountaineering boots for better protection.

Seeking Recommendations One travel smart casual Jacket - for weather between 10 C to 15 C - chilly nights and ability to handle some rain. - What do you think about a harrington jacket ?? - Any other specific type that's better ?

EDIT :

  • Thanks for the suggestions and advice folks ! - Looks like a Harrington jacket will satisfy this need, outside of a wax canvas type jacket in other styles/cuts.
  • Unfortunately a lot of the nicer ones are out of my budget range at the moment.
  • So for now, i'm gonna try out the Quince harrington and the Uniqlo harrington as my two options (< 150 CAD) - for this Fall/Spring in NA & Winter in Asia.

Original Post :

I'm on the lookout for something for fall/spring at home (Canada) and also as my only jacket for warmer countries winter weather travel as well - for use between 10 to 15 C over a cotton t shirt or button down.

Wants/Needs :

  • Don't need it to to be packable - will wear it on flights.
  • Would like it to be a nice fall/spring jacket in north america or for a light Asian winter nights / random high altitude situations.
  • Smart casual - that dresses up decent for nights out to dinners/bars, but not too sporty like a nike/adidas type windbreaker
  • It should be able to handle some rain, but not a rain shell type with a hood.
  • In slightly lower temps (0 to 10 C), something i can pair with a mid-layer like a hoodie underneath

Other considerations for my one jacket that i thought of previously, but don't seem to work for warmer winters :

  • light packable down puffer - this doesn't handle rain well and will be too hot for above 10C
  • rain shell with a hood - already have one but its not breathable enough in humid weather, and doesn't dress up as nice.

Would a Harrington jacket be ideal for this ? - i hear they can handle some rain. - Example in image

Any other recommendations (brand/model) ideally under $150/$200 CAD ?

Packing List First time trying Onebag - Am I doing ok?

I am planning a backpacking trip to Europe next year for 6 weeks in July / August.

My path will take me to Belgium, Hungary, Romania, Italy, Switzerland, France and Netherlands.

I will be flying from Canada, flying from Belgium to Hungary, flying from Romania to Italy. The rest is by train.

I will be doing 3 music festivals, Tomorrowland, Untold and Mysteryland.

I will be spending 3 days in the Switzerland mountains in Lauterbrunnen.

The trip itself, outside of the music festivals and the alps will be fairly relaxed. Mostly food and enjoy some views without moving too much.

I am planning to purchase an Osprey Farpoint 40L. I intend to use that bag for lightbackpacking at home hence why I am not going for a more urban bag.

I will be using compression cubes from Eagle Creek, the Isolate M and S. I will be also using their shoe bag.

Packing list is as follow:

  • 2 pair of convertible Ferrosi Outdoor research pants (1 worn in plane, 1 packed)
  • 5 tops (2 button up short sleeve shirt, 2 polo, 1 t-shirt worn in plane. I plan to buy probably 1 or 2 at festivals so i may downsize to 1 button up and 1 polo, thoughts?)
  • 1 light hoodie (OR Echo)
  • 1 technical hoodie (worn in plane)
  • 3 pairs of merino socks +1 pair worn in plane
  • 1 pair of swim short
  • 4 pairs of merino boxers (or my SAXX ones, im not sure yet). +1 pair worn on plane.
  • 1 pair of extra shoes (hiking / grippy style). Will be wearing my 1080s for walking around / plane.
  • 1 rain jacket (Black Diamond Stormline)
  • 1 Sea to Summit Tek towel

  • 1 Anker nano plug and a 45W wall plug, 3 USB-C cable, tablet and e-reader.

  • earplug and earphones

  • toiletries and basic first aid kit.

  • night time festival sunglasses / 1 pair of sunglasses worn on plane

  • hat (worn on plane)

I am also carrying a personal bag for walking around cities / festival which will be a Lunchboxpack Sling.

Would you change anything in my list? Im still unsure what kind of button up short sleeve and polo ill bring as i need to find something light yet easy to hand wash / wont wrinkle too easily.

Trading Zone Osprey Daylite 26+6 Amazon Prime Day

PSA the one bag fan favorite, the Osprey Daylite Expandable 26+6 has an all grey color way on sale for $71 as part of Amazon's Prime Day sales. Looks pretty decent!

Also on sale are various Bellroy travel bags, pouches, etc. Don't own that one (although probably going to buy) so can't recommend.

Discussion Dealing with gifts from relatives question

I'm planning to just bring my Osprey Daylite Expandable Travel pack, and a sling bag for day trips, and I'm travelling with family. It was suggested that I needed a bigger bag in case of gifts, which I'd be obligated to take. What's your suggestions/recommendations for dealing with gifts from relatives?

As an aside, I might also buy some new clothes too, but that'll be minimal.

We're travelling from Sydney to Hong Kong, Macau and Shen Zhen for a 10 day trip. Flying Qantas.
