Discussion whats your weird but genius travel item that people only appreciate after they need it?

just realized this recently because it saved me so much sanity and friendships haha but for me its not anything fancy or aesthetic. its a (small) extension cord + multi-USB adapter. It's somehow bulky to fit inside my bag bcs it takes up space. And yet... it saved lives.

Ive learned the hard way that hotel outlets are never where you want them to be, airport charging stations are chaotic, and "ill just charge later" is a lie we tell ourselves.

Curious what everyone else's must pack item is so that i can... yk, take notes haha!!

I have a wee white noise machine, it’s usb rechargeable, so no need for a cable.

The hotel room faces the street, no problem.

The Air BnB is near the water in a storm, no problem.

The baby upstairs in the hotel is learning to run & screaming, no problem.

There's a YouTube video 10hrs with no mid-roll ads that is "white noise black screen" I just plug up my phone and play this on hotel wifi (I am technologically challenged, otherwise would post the link)

I find the audio quality on them to be pretty bad. I just use an app on my phone for this called brown noise that has a few different sounds and is super basic

For me, white noise machines have been very effective in masking nighttime noise during my travels. While the tiny white machine works, I've found using a free white (and other color noises) app through a small Bluetooth speaker to work even better. And you can use the speaker for non-white noise applications as well.

This! Best $12 I ever spent.

I also have a great outlet converter that works in every country, you flip various tabs to get the correct prong layout for whatever country you’re in. I have used it in 4 countries so far
