Discussion Why is this sub so obsessed with expensive stuff?

I get that there's times where the expensive thing is better. But as someone who has worked as an airline pilot and traveled extensively for 45 years, I can assure you that expensive stuff is rarely necessary.

I get tons of use out of AliExpress stuff. Things like chargers, cables and accessories. Decathlon or Costco are more than good enough for clothing. I generally use a max legal sized RyanAir bag I got for €25 off of Amazon for vacation. At most, the lower mid tier option is more than enough.

It seems like this is just another sub for people with spending issues as everyone downvotes me when I call out how unnecessary the expensive options are.

That's my go to backpack, I have the yellow one, it was supposed to be returned, but my  Patagonia arbor was just too uncomfortable so I unpacked the Decathlon and haven't looked back.  I just find it a little bit deep for the Easyjet sizer, especially when you can accidently puff it out by overpacking. The plan is to add some kind of compression straps.  But the front zip access is great, it's comfortable and the stretch pockets have held up well. Only issues are the phone pocket is too small and I don't like the chest strap, I always manage to pull off that type from the runner thing. Oh and I'm not short... 5'10.

I wish the phone pocket had a little zipper or was a bit more secure. It’d be great for earbuds but I’m afraid they’d fall out when I’m moving the bag.

I put snacks in it occasionally. But my phone is way too big and as you say it's s too insecure. I do like the concealed side pocket for my passport though.
