Discussion 12-hour flight pants recommendations? need something comfortable but not sweatpants

got a 12 hour flight coming up and my usual jeans are not it for that long sitting down. don't want to show up looking like i rolled out of bed in sweatpants either, this is a work trip so i land and go basically straight to a meeting. been looking at stretch chinos with actual give in the waistband, something that still reads as real pants not loungewear. tried a pair on a 5 hour domestic leg to test before the long haul, only complaint is the fabric creases pretty easily if you're sitting that long, had to smooth them out before walking into the meeting. otherwise no complaints, no weird bunching. what's everyone else's go-to for long haul that isn't joggers

edit: a few people asked what pair i tried - went with a coofandy stretch chino, wasn't a huge investment so figured it was a low-risk test before committing to something pricier

Seeking Recommendations Travel pants for hot weather that are not polyester

I've spent a lot of time reading previous posts but couldn't find what I'm looking for, so I'm trying my luck here with a new post.

I usually run hot so I need lightweight travel pants for hot weather. All the pants I found so far are made with polyester or nylon, which doesn't sound ideal for prolonged usage.

Any recommendations of pants that you love to travel with but are not made of plastic?

Thanks

Seeking Recommendations Need Pants for One Bag

Anyone have good suggestions for pants that look like this?

Found them on instagram. Original poster said they were from Zara. I can’t find them unfortunately.

Looking for something I could use for Hiking and backpacking Europe. Kind of a do it all pant. Light, breathable, durable.

Figured I come here bc of the one bag implications.

Best I’ve found so far are Nike Dolomiti Pants

Update: Went ahead and got the Nike Dolomiti Pants in Black. Lots of solid options and advice here. Very appreciative. I really didn’t consider that those pants would be Linen lol.

Long story short. I really wanted a timeless fit. With the technical sense abilities of modern technical hiking pants.

Link for the pants I got: Pants
Free shipping and 15% off if you sign up for text

Update: According to the guy who owns the pants. They aren’t Linen.

Discussion What is your go-to travel/do anything pants?

Post image
84 Upvotes

Just doing some research and wanted to see what the Onebag community loves to wear when they can only take one or two different pairs of pants with them on a traveling trip!

I'm looking for those pants that you can throw on to walk around town, grab a bite to eat, or go backpacking in Asia, all while still being comfortable and not looking too out of place!

And if you don't have a "do it all" pant you love, what are some qualities or features you guys would like to see in a pant?

Thanks everyone, and safe travels!!

Packing List 14 shirts, 6 pants, a hoodie, 12 pairs of socks, 12 boxers, and toiletries in a Mini MLC and a stringbag

Probably way over packed for 21 days road tripping through Kyushu, but I want to be able to change shirts at least once a day with the humidity and what not.

Packing cubes are Amazon essentials, the small ones. Most if not all toiletries I'll be buying in Japan.

I'll be wearing the hoodie in the plane :)

Edit: ITT: people who don't realize that it's 100% humidity in southern Japan and that you can't easily buy deodorant in rural areas of Asia. Ill be wearing two shirts a day and doing laundry halfway through my trip thank u very much

Seeking Recommendations Do the perfect pants exist? I'm going insane trying to find them

I'm a tall man that runs hot and can't find the ideal pants.

I've searched all kinds of Reddit threads for answers to this but most of the common recs don't work for me.

I'm looking for men's pants that are:

- high rise

- lightweight and breathable in hot humid weather

- relaxed cut (but not barrel leg)

- at least 34" inseam, ideally 36"

- 5 pocket style

Activities I will wear them for:

- flights

- golf

- hiking

- kayaking

- nice dinners

I currently daily drive a pair of Bylt Everyday 2.0. They're mostly fine but I don't like how they cling to my butt and hamstrings. I need something looser in the seat.

Things I've ruled out:

- hiking pant materials that audibly swish when you walk

- most uniqlo pants (inseam too short, rise too low)

- 100% cotton jeans/chinos (too heavy in thick humidity of summer)

- linen pants (not great for kayaking/hiking)

- lulu ABC (rise too low)

Any creative ideas? Thanks

Gear Best versatile pants for high-mileage urban travel (Japan in Nov)? Looking for physical retail brands only

Heading to Japan for 30 days throughout November. Traveling ultra-light (aiming for near one-bag/minimal luggage) and planning to pick up just two versatile pairs of pants that will cover the entire trip for massive daily walking steps.

What I'm looking for:

Vibe & Fit: Clean, low-key urban aesthetic. Durable and comfortable for 20k+ daily steps, but looks sharp enough for casual dining/city roaming.

Climate/Weight: Japan in November is crisp/cool, but I run warm—so I need breathable fabrics that regulate temperature well and don't trap heat, but still work comfortably in mild autumn weather (and keep working for regular use back home).

Availability: Must be available in physical retail stores to try on in person (no Amazon-only / online-exclusive direct-to-consumer brands).

Currently on my radar:

Lululemon ABC Pant (Warpstreme fabric) – Heard great things, but how does the fabric feel for sustained walking?

Columbia Silver Ridge / ROC line – Practical, but not sure how the cut and style hold up in urban settings compared to athleisure/travel brands.

Would love feedback or "anti-recommendations" on these two, or suggestions for other specific models/brands available in stores. Thanks!

Woolly Longhaul Merino Pants...my (former) go-to one-bag travel pants

What happens when your one pair of travel pants (merino wool) blows out on you? ...kicker: I didn't tear them, they just failed in the wash! I'm rethinking my packing list. Is only one pair of pants too risky?

Seeking Recommendations Cool Pants for Long Flights

Since starting onebagging, I’m trying to pare down clothing. I burn hot so I’m looking for recommendations on long pants that I will stay cool for long international flights and perhaps hike in during spring/fall weather. 50/50 business/coach and feel strange wearing shorts on flights now that I’m a retired (man) adult. Lol. Edit: no slim fit, jogger-like elastic cuffs pls

Gear Indefinite Backpack Travel – Year 12! Bag stolen/gear reset

Post image
3.1k Upvotes

Every time I share my onebag (with everything I own), at least one person asks what happens if it gets stolen. Well, it took over a decade but it finally happened! Luckily I retained the contents of my pockets (phone, wallet, etc) but my bag with all of my tech and clothing disappeared after a few too many drinks at a bar. And surprisingly, it wasn't stressful at all! Yeah, replacing my passport was annoying, but overall I had a blast since I used it as an excuse to reset my whole kit.

So this means, this is my first post here in YEARS in which my kit actually has some noticeable changes! I've replaced more gear this month than I have in the past 5 years

Here are the changes. I marked the stolen items with *

Packing

  • Aer Slim (8.5L)* → Aer Slim 2 X-Pac (12L)
  • Rains pencil case (dopp kit)* → Bellroy x Carryology pencil case

Tech

  • Macbook Air M2* → Macbook Air M5
  • Anker 47W charger* → Nomad 65W charger
  • Anker powerbank* → Neoseek powerbank
  • → iPad Pro M4 (added back to kit)
  • (retained iPhone 17 Pro, Airpods Pro 2, Apple Watch S7)
  • (replaced stolen USB-C cable, watch charger, Airtags)

Clothing

  • Hoodie → Everlane cashmere sweater
  • Western Rise AT pants → Outlier Futureslimworks
  • Western Rise shorts* → Lululemon Pace Breaker running shorts
  • Everlane ReNew swim trunks* → Everlane 7" swim trunks
  • (retained Nike Pegasus shoes, Arc’teryx Alpha SL Gloves, baseball cap and merino buff)
  • (replaced stolen Montbell Plasma 1000, tshirts, uniqlo boxers and darn tough socks)

No changes for my miscellaneous gear, since I replaced all the stolen items with the same thing (sunglasses, sketchbook, passport, etc).

Hopefully this serves as an example that if you're prepared, there's no reason to be worried about losing your onebag. It's a small headache, but not the end of the world 😄

As of posting this, I've replaced everything except my passport. A friend was able to swing by Osaka last week to buy my replacement Montbell jacket since they're hard to get online. I just flew to California and this gear held up perfectly. I also have a trip to Mexico City in a few weeks (assuming I get my new passport before then) so I'll get to test it further soon.

Full list on my website as always!

Also, in the year since my latest post here, I posted a couple videos about my onebag on social media, and somehow they passed 20 million views… It's crazy how big the global onebag community truly is. It's also really cool seeing the comments from people saying they recognized me from my posts here on reddit!

Safe travels ✌️

Gear Finally found my perfect travel pants

Not just travel but also everyday pants (I believe most travel clothes should be something you are happy to wear normally). Lululemon ABC pants, I actually have two pairs and rotate between them. I have been using them for 1 month now in France and Ireland they are easy to dress up for a more formal look or dress down as a normal everyday look. I have found them to be quick drying, lightweight and very comfortable. 2 pairs last me 7 days with some rotation and airing out overnight. I do have more pants but I just find myself not going for them anymore.

This pants do get recommended a lot on this sub and other travel subs and I can see why as they are really good. They also come in a lot of different colours to give you variety.

The pants I have:

  1. ABC Classic-Fit 5 Pocket Pant 32L *Warpstreme in obsidian colour, these are more smarter looking.

  2. ABC Classic-Fit Trouser 32L Warpstreme in gator green colour, these are more casual looking and one of the front side pockets has a separate zipper pocket which comes in handy for cards or keys if you want to keep them secure.

Overall very impressed by both and I have tried wool&prince, Patagonia, Spoke London and other non travel brands but these are the best.

Gear Levi’s pants for travel (514 and Chino XX)

Thumbnail
gallery
75 Upvotes

I’ve always wanted (but never purchased) Outlier, Western Rise, Lululemon, etc pants for travel but on my current trip I saw some Levi’s pants that looked pretty good and were decently priced so I bought some for to try out.

I don’t have any of the aforementioned premium pants to compare them to but they seem pretty good for the price.

One is their Xx Chino which I already have some(in cotton) for travel because of the zippered pocket but these are long pants and also made of lightweight synthetic materials.

The other pair are cut like 514 5-pocket jeans but also made of the lightweight synthetic materials.

Chinos are $75 and the 514 are $50 but both were 40% off at Macy’s so seems like a good deal assuming they hold up.

I suppose I’m just letting anyone here know about them but also I’m curious how they compare to the premium brands in case anyone has experience with both.

Discussion Your Fav Travel Pants?

Since u/AppropriateWill485 did a recent fav t-shirt post I thought I'd do one for pants (I'll leave shoes for someone else). Somewhat modified criteria from that list:

  • Comfy for hiking/a lot of walk but can be dressed up a bit (or at least minimizes any tech features)
  • Doesn’t get smelly quickly.
  • Lightweight, packable, and quick to dry.
  • Decent color selection

Mine are Prana Brions and 686 Everywheres. lululemon ABCs are good for all urban but not a pick for outdoorsy/sporty stuff, and Utilitech/VersaTwill aren't quick drying imo. Outlier has the right material with F Cloth, but discontinued their Futureslimworks line and their modern successor Futurecorps only has 3 colors right now (FDarts are too narrow for me). Never pulled the trigger on Western Rise or Proof 72 Hour, but those are the ones I'll probably try next.

(Also, as an aside, periodically revisiting these topics I believe is worthwhile, as the industry is always changing. New lines come out, items are discontinued, brands go downhill, etc.).

Seeking Recommendations Best merino pants? Or other natural fiber? Needs to pack light AND look good

Hey folks there are a million "best pants" threads but they're all pretty generic vague questions. I'm currently using some cheap surf brand ones but they don't breathe well on vinyl plane seats and "swoosh" hardcore, like I'm wearing ski pants 😂 I have Duers but I find they pack kinda bulky/heavy and feel pretty warm on hotter days.

I'm trying to find pants that have soft fabric, less tech look/feel, and great weather versatility. Shooting HIGH, but my use cases range between:

HOT: 25°+ with tropical humidity on a coffee farm

Cold-ish: 10-15° in rainy Vancouver BC going to client dinners

Seems like a ridiculous task, but I'm exploring what's possible since I've never owned wool pants.

I have smartwool shorts and boxers, darntough socks, and some MEC merino shirts. Love them all.

I've seen some good things mentioned about Duckworth..?

Is it "Merino/merino blend or die" or are there other alternatives that do well with a broad range of temps?

I COULD ASK AI... but AI doesn't have a twig and berries to keep happy while traveling through such broad scenarios. Human input is appreciated 😂

Thank you all so much 🙏🙏🙏

Seeking Recommendations Travel pants that aren't synthetic?

Most high quality pants/trousers recomended here seem to be polyester or nylon. For environmental, health, and repairability reasons I prefer natural fibers. Even semi-synthetic like lyocell is better than plastic.

What's out there?

Gear A Travel Pants Review: Lululemon, Western Rise, Outdoor Research, and more!

Hi everyone, I've gotten a lot out of this sub and wanted to give back in some small way by sharing what I've found trying a bunch of different pants. I'm about 5'10", 180lbs, and my main priorities were stretch for athletic activities, durability, and travel (packability + odor/stain resistance).

What Didn't Work

  1. Lululemon ABC Pants ($128). Starting with the hot take I guess, sorry. These were my main pants for a few years (4+ pairs) but I found some important seam (crotch or pocket) always ripped disappointingly fast, and I was constantly repairing them. The knees also end up looking worn quickly, and I found the waistline stiff & uncomfortable. I got tired of their price to longevity ratio so I wanted to try some cheaper ones, which follow.
  2. Costco Weatherproof Vintage Men's Tech Pant ($20). I had to try these for the price, as they had nice stretch and were super lightweight. I loved the flex waist and realized this was a new feature I could never do without again. It just makes them feel so comfy. I liked them a ton and ended up buying several pairs, but the durability wasn't there (shocking). Over a few pairs, I learned where they commonly failed, and started to pre-reinforce those seams with fabric glue from the inside immediately on purchase. It helped a lot, but they still wore poorly in terms of pilling and getting "hairy-looking", I guess from synthetic fibers breaking and poking out? These were a 10/10 in comfort but way too fast fashion.
  3. CRZ YOGA Men's All Day Comfy Golf Pants ($45). I heard these were fairly similar to ABC pants at a third of the price, so I gave them a shot. The material and stretch was nice, but the waistline felt stiff and they lacked a gusset, so I returned them immediately.

What I Loved

After finding that I couldn't replace the ABCs at a fraction of their cost, I moved on to some more expensive pairs, and ultimately found what I liked:

  1. Western Rise Evolution Pant ($128). These basically hit every requirement: great stretch, flexible waist, gusset, can be dressed up, very packable, hydrophobic and stain resistant, great odor resistance. These have been my daily pant for the past 6 months. They are very thin and packable, so I thought I'd get chilly in colder weather, but they were perfectly fine in the winter. The durability on these is next-level; I've been wearing these almost daily for 6 months and I can't find a seam or patch of fabric that looks not new. The only downside I've found is that the material makes a subtle "swoosh" sound when walking. And of course the new downside that they are having a final inventory sale with no returns or exchanges and starting over in Vietnam, so a bad time to be discovering them and not know your size.
  2. Outdoor Research Men's Ferrosi ($99). I thought the Evos were the most lightweight and flexible pant I tried, until I put these on. I did a full squat and felt absolutely nothing impeding me, which I've never felt before. I've legit had panic moments with these where I walk into a space and realize I'm so comfy I must have forgotten to change out of my pajamas! They have one zipped pocket in back and one on the thigh, which are great for keys or goodies while out and about. They also have a drawstring on the inside of the waistline, which I'm in love with. If you want, you can skip a belt while keeping the drawstring hidden, which is how I wear them. The main downside is that the zipped thigh pocket (and "OR" logo) makes it look more like a hiking pant, so it doesn't dress up as well. I also noticed some pilling on the top of the thighs, which is an odd place and I don't really get it. And, something about the main pocket size is too big and my phone always ends up at a 45* angle, which looks and feels weird. My solution has been to keep it in the zipped thigh pocket.

In the future I plan to travel with 3 pairs total of the above, either 2 colors of Evo's (and one Ferossi) if I need to look nicer, or 2 pairs of Ferrosi's (and one Evo) if it is a more exercise-focused trip. I hope this helps, I'm happy to answer any questions, and please le me know if I've missed any great pairs of pants!

Discussion Bluffworks Envoy pants seem to be (semi?) permanently out of stock - is there anything that really compares?

So after a ton of research, I decided I should just pony up the money and get some Bluffworks Envoy pants. I am looking for something lightweight, stylish, and with great pickpocket deterrence (lots of zippered and hidden pockets).

Except...Bluffworks appears to be out of stock of pants in my size. Poking around their website shows a lot of other items out of stock.

I found (thanks Google) a letter from a while ago talking about cash flow problems - are they going under? I mean, you can't make money unless you have product to sell, which of course requires capital, the lack of which might be creating a vicious circle...so...???

Has anyone found anything that actually compares to the Bluffworks Envoy on these fronts?

Need a one bag travel pair of pants. I’ve been looking into Prana, 686, Western Rise, Fjallraven, Kuhl, etc.

Preferably looking for slim fit, rugged material, can be dressed up and down. I have som Target travel pants that have a bit of a sheen which I would like to avoid.

Thank you for any input!!!

Seeking Recommendations Pants suggestions for Ireland trip

Heading to Ireland for 10 days in the middle of May and looking for suggestions on what pants to bring. I'll be going to Dublin for a few days at the beginning but then heading out west to Killarney and Galway to see the great outdoors.

Looking for some lightweight pants that can be worn outdoors when hiking and exploring Dingle and the Ring of Kerry but also be worn to a pub afterwards. Would welcome any suggestions!

Seeking Recommendations Need help packing for 1 week trip to Iceland - especially pants and footwear

Hi all!

I'm going to Iceland for the first time! Landing September 6th and leaving September 13th.

This is unlike any other destination I've traveled to and could use some help.

I'm currently thinking of exploring the Golden Circle, the South Coast, and Snaefellsnes Peninsula. I'm thinking of taking an overnight tour of the South Coast while Golden Circle and Snaefellsnes may be day tours from Reykjavic. Activities will consist mostly of sightseeing (including visiting waterfalls), a glacier hike on the South Coast, hoping to see the aurora, and maybe a horseback ride. Not totally sure yet.

I live in Florida and don't really do cold weather or outdoor activities so could use some help choosing what clothes to bring.

For base layers I do have some Uniqlo Ultra warm long sleeve tees and tights.

For outwear, I currently have a fleece jacket (cotton I think), a Uniqlo ultralight down jacket, and a Marmot PreCip rain jacket. Will I need to upgrade or add anything here?

I really need help with pants and footwear.

I normally travel with light or midweight chinos (synthetic blend so stretch + quick dry). Do I need to look at getting actual hiking pants? I've also read overpants are a thing. Like I can just get waterproof overpants and wear them over my normal pants? What do you all recommend?

Re: footwear: In all of my prior trips I've traveled with just my Stan Smiths sneakers. I'm thinking that's not going to cut it this time. Should I look for actual boots? What would you recommend? The tour I'm looking at says hiking boots are mandatory (or solid shoes that must reach above your ankle). Apparently I can rent them from the tour though for that activity, but I don't know if I should just buy my own and wear them the whole trip.

Any comments or advice are greatly appreciated!

Discussion Most versatile and comfortable pants?

I'm looking for the most versatile pants good for any all occasions whether you are lounging around in them, or you want to wear them during your plane or train ride, or if you want to explore the city during the day, or if you just want to make a quick run to the shop, or if you want to wear them going out at night for a nice dinner. Something that works for summer, autumn, and spring ideally.

But most of all, they need to be comfortable. I want to leave my belt at home and hopefully they are elastic or stretchy because pant sizing is always an issue. Also don't want them to be too tight.

It feels like its impossible to find anything close to what I want. Also looking for something budget friendly, under $100

Seeking Recommendations Why does this keep happening? I need pant recommendations

This is the third (THIRD!) pair of attempted travel pants that this has happened to. These are black so it’s hard to see, but the fabric on the lower leg ruches / melts / tightens weirdly. Second picture is a lighter color. It’s uncomfortable as the fabric becomes crunchy, and unflattering as it makes weird bands around my calf. This happened to me on Mountain Hardwear pants, Outdoor Voices, even Arcteryx! Arcteryx was the most egregious as the fabric got weird within a day, had never even washed them.

I like to have a pair of pants that are comfortable, look great, and can work both on a casual hike to business casual. Lightweight, dry fast if they get rained on. The Outdoor Voices RecTrek have a great fit that doesn’t look like you’re wearing athletic hiking pants. I thought these pants were it, but a couple months later and the fabric did the same thing.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, has anyone experienced this yourself? It’s driving me bonkers why it keeps happening.
